Re: Breaking Bad -- "Open House" -- 7/31/11

Ugh. It's Skyler, not Skylar. Anyway, she was being a real idiot in this episode. I think the car wash idea was much better than the arcade, especially in this day and age, where arcades are on the way out. But Saul's idea of using a nail salon seems better than both of them. I feel bad for the car wash guy. He really didn't do anything wrong, and now because Skyler and Walt feel slighted he's got to give up the business he's worked at his whole life.

Man, I felt bad for Marie this episode. Hank's been a real asshole. It definitely seemed like she wanted to get caught and thrown in jail so she wouldn't have to go home, and that's pretty sad as the better alternative. It'll be nice to see Hank get back into police work and stop collecting rocks.

Jesse's home life has taken an...interesting turn. It's funny to see how different things were last week, with Badger and Skinny Pete and "regular" drug users compared to this week with the hardcore addicts. He's definitely on a pretty self destructive path, and it sucks to see his life falling apart like that. I'm enjoying the camera work portraying his breakdowns though and Aaron Paul's doing a great job portraying Jesse thus far this season.

They're not rocks, they're minerals.

I'm glad we are finally getting to the payoff of the Hank/Marie stuff ... I know the scenes are supposed to be painful to watch, but I've found them painful and uninteresting. I understand that there's a consequence to violence and Walt's actions (as well as Hank and Marie's), but ugh.

Was that Gus in the car right before Walt and Skilar celebrated?

I didn't get Walt's outrage over there being a camera in the lab... does he not realize he's going to be watched a bit more closely now? And it's not like them watching him in the lab is that big a deal.

I think it was the new muscle guy (Clevon form the Shield) who took over for slit throat guy.

It wasn't Gus or his new security guy, not sure who it was but he was outside of Jesse's house, then they cut to the scene with Walt and Skylur.

I just glanced at him from the last episode and it's two different guys.

Edit: On second glance, same scar on the forehead, same guy. Gus's new security guy.

At the end of tonight's episode during the preview for next week's episode, for a few seconds Mike is talking to Gus and says something like "so-and-so has become increasingly uncautious". Did anyone catch the name of the person that Mike of speaking of ?

I was concentrating on figuring out if that guy in the car was Gus' security guy, so I didn't spot that the house was Jesse's. Once Skyler started admonishing Walt about the risks of buying that expensive drink, I was concerned that maybe the guy in the car was law enforcement monitoring Walt and Skyler.

It's time for Hank to get out of bed. The show is still effective w/o him as a factor, but at the same time it's missing him. Plus, while I know the intent of the scenes with Marie and Hank, it's not "fun" to watch. It's like watching the family scenes in the Killing. Hopefully, it won't last the whole season.

We got a new Shield vet in the house...Hank's cop buddy, who was the assistant chief on said show.

I think Marie just wanted to talk to people and have some human contact other than with Hank.

Thanks, because that's critically important.

I don't. Marie has always been screwed up. Remember, she had the kleptomania plot line in an earlier season.

Also...yeah it's a promo picture, but I still have to say: It is pretty damn funny to see all of these characters posing for the camera like they're on CSI. Also the fact that Walt Jr. is in the same space as Gus, Mike, etc.

Dean Norris gives an interesting and funny glimpse of Hank's and Walt's relationship later on this season:

Spoiler:

What can viewers expect from the rest of the season?

Let me just give you one little bit. Hank is walking better but he can’t drive. So he needs to have somebody drive him around. So who does he ask but his brother-in-law? So in the midst of him getting back into the investigation there are more scenes with Walt and Hank driving and they’re really funny because he knows that I am a DEA agent and I don’t know he’s the guy and we get into a lot of hairy situations where Walt has to do his lovely juggling and they are both tense and funny as Hank tries to solve the case using Walt as his buddy.

He could also be worried that Gus or someone else watching will be able to copy his recipe via the video surveillance ... not to mention that there is now, without a doubt, video evidence of Walt cooking meth.

Re: Breaking Bad -- "Open House" -- 7/31/11

I think part of Walt's outrage has to do with how obvious the camera is. It moves as he moves, tracking his every motion. It's just eerie and unsettling, which I'm sure it's meant to be...

Maybe because with a camera, they can watch him and how he makes his stuff?

I thought maybe it was the IRS outside the White house after Skhiler was talking about the $325 bottle of wine. Seems like the perfect time for the IRS to take notice.

Terrific episode.

Marie is such a neurotic, awkward twerp. Man the actress pulled that off.

Things were 'real' when Jesse got home. "Money!"

How long till the cops respond to the neighbor's complaints about Jesse's meth house? He is in a pretty affluent neighborhood, after all.
