Weeds: Season 7 discussion thread
Press release:
MARTIN SHORT, AIDAN QUINN & MORE TO GUEST STAR ON SHOWTIME’S HIT COMEDY SERIES WEEDS New Year, New Faces, New York on Tap for Season 7, Premiering June 27th LOS ANGELES, CA (May 26, 2011) – Some big changes are brewing on the hit SHOWTIME comedy series WEEDS – a three-year time jump, a Big Apple move and the addition of Martin Short, Aidan Quinn, Lindsay Sloane and several notable guest stars, including returning special guest star Jennifer Jason Leigh, all shaping up for an exciting season 7. Production on the new season’s 13 episodes is currently underway in Los Angeles for a Monday, June 27th at 10p ET/PT premiere. WEEDS is produced by Lionsgate and executive produced by creator Jenji Kohan, Roberto Benabib, Matthew Salsberg and Mark A. Burley. SHOWTIME’s top-rated comedy WEEDS stars Mary-Louise Parker, in her Golden GlobeŽ Award-winning role as Nancy Botwin, a former suburban mom-turned-pot dealer. Last season’s cliffhanger had our favorite quick-change artist surrendering to the FBI for the murder of Pilar Zuazo. We pick up the new season as she has just completed a three-year stint in Federal prison. She’s now in New York , but no free bird - she must complete her probation in a strictly monitored halfway house, which means she’ll have to deal before curfew. A now bolder Nancy has to re-start the business from scratch. Meanwhile, the boys - Andy (Justin Kirk), Silas (Hunter Parrish) and Shane (Alexander Gould) - who were camped out in Copenhagen - are now Big Apple-bound with Doug (Kevin Nealon) in tow, of course and will be stirring up major trouble. The legendary Martin Short (Damages) headlines the guest star roster as an eccentric attorney in at least 3 episodes, while Aidan Quinn (Prime Suspect) will play a charismatic investment firm CEO in at least 4 episodes. Jennifer Jason Leigh returns for 4 episodes as Nancy ’s estranged sister Jill Price-Grey who has been watching Little Stevie while Nancy was incarcerated. Lindsay Sloane (Grosse Pointe) has signed on for 6 episodes as Maxeen, an eccentric conceptual artist who Andy (Kirk) meets at a gallery event, and noted actor David Clennon (Ghost Whisperer) will play her husband, Charles. Pablo Schreiber (Lights Out) will star as Demetri Ravitch, an army supply sergeant and brother of Nancy’s former cellmate Zoya (guest star Olga Sosnovska), who begins to supply Nancy in her newest endeavor. And Gary Anthony Williams (Mad, The Boondocks) will play Ed Watson, Nancy ’s halfway house counselor.

Might as well get this going now since some details have emerged. I'm glad it's getting a major shakeup.

I've been a huge supporter of the show and even enjoyed seasons 4 and 5 (Blasphemy! I know). But season 6 was just plain bad. Its time to wrap this show up. I'll be watching, but mainly out of habit.

Re: Weeds: Season 7 discussion thread
Yep. Season 4 was really bad and Season 5 was a disaster. But Season 6 actually showed signs of improvement. I think jumping three years into the future and getting rid of the Mexican Cartel business is the best thing this show could possibly do at this point. Also, it's nice to hear that Nancy will have been to prison and is still on probation and living in a halfway house; that at least gives those of us who wanted to see Nancy punished at some point a bit of satisfaction.

Re: Weeds: Season 7 discussion thread
I hadn't read the article. Interesting. Yeah, major reboot of the series. And yeah, although the last season was good, they really needed this reboot.
We will see if they can keep it fresh.

Sort of surprised there isn't a bigger promo for this yet. Should be interesting to see NYC but I always preferred watching it for the California suburbs.

What happened to Celia? Last thing I remember she was selling drugs through the makeup kit and thinking about going lesbian with the sales rep, but I don't remember what actually happened with that storyline. Was it ever resolved or did they just abandon it entirely?

Re: Weeds: Season 7 discussion thread
Exactly. Once they found out what was going on with this season, it got... okay. But the stuff in Seattle and on the road was meandering, pointless and would usually reset itself by the end of the episode.

I haven't seen seasons 5 or 6 yet since I thought it started to slip in season 4. I kind of am interested in seeing the newer episodes though just to see the fate of the characters and see if they can redeem the show a little.

Re: Weeds: Season 7 discussion thread
Last year was an improvement IMO from the previous 2 seasons, but still a big step down from the early days of the show. I like the general plan they have for this next season, I have hope that this will get the show back on track. If not, they should call it quits.
