Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
Congrats to Blake and Danielle. She was a force to be reckoned with since day 1. Totally not invested in this finale at all with these 3 left. In fact, haven't even watched yet. I will say that I'm not a fan of ITunes purchases=a shitload of votes for a contestant. Wish they would do away with that. As a poster mentioned, if they are singing a current song by a current artist, and you don't change it up, why would you by it as a cover?

Cher's performance literally had me laughing out loud. What was up with that Joan Jett/Hot Topic/Cockatoo outfit?
I agree with this when a contestant is advancing strictly on the country genre versus their actual talent, but in this case Danielle was (IMO) just a stronger singer than Michelle, regardless of style.

Exactly. I'm not a country fan, and liked Michelle, but there's no denying Michelle is not in Danielle's league. IIRC, she knocked every song out of the park whereas Michelle stumbled a few times.

No way they should have been in the finals IMO.
Danielle on the other hand is going to be a star and I hate country music.

Re: The Voice -- Season 4 Thread -- Now with Shakira & Usher
This was a strong season on The Voice but.........I really think they should tinker with the format. Once we got to the top 10 it became really boring. Usher and Shakira was pretty fresh. I really liked them and all 4 judges had a good chemistry. Early on, I'd admit that I was looking forward more to their interactions than the contestants. It's gonna be hard to watch next fall with Ceelo and X-Tina back. Also, the most exciting part to me is the auditions and the battle rounds. I wish they could extend those weeks and cut a couple weeks off of when America votes. Once it gets to the voting, the judges pretty much are worthless and repeat the same mantra over and over again. They are not critical in the final month and I think that hurts the show a little.
BTW, I hated the Swon Bros. all season but really liked them the final two weeks. Go figure.

Not sure what's so bad about Bruno Mars, that was easily the best non contestant performance.
Way better than that 70 year old man grumbling his new song.

Finally caught up - spoiler free too! Can't say I'm surprised Danielle won, but a bit sad. If it was based on crowd reaction then Michelle would have won.
Swon brothers seem like really good guys, and I'm sure they'll have moderate success with Blake's help. I doubt they'll be mega stars, but who knows.
I always feel like bringing contestants back for 30-1 minute segments is a double edged sword. 1) it seems so superficial, "Oh we loved you. Please come back to help close out the show even though you were booted off. Sing - yeah...30 seconds for ya..." 2) It highlights how much better some of them still are compared to the remaining contestants.
I still think Sara and Amber should have made the finals.
I think we're going to take a break for the fall season. Maybe we'll check out the blinds, but can't stand Christina and her performance reinforced I have no desire to sit through her charades week after week.

This was my first season and I'll be back for season 6. Thought Usher was a huge douche before this show but he actually grew on me and I completely fell in love with Shakira. I have not interest in Ceelo or Christina so I'll be skipping 5.

Given Adam's ability to torpedo his most talented singers with his song choices it amazes me that people still pick him.

Wanted to boycott this season, but other half wanted to check it out. I'm glad to see Xtina's attitude has improved. That was my main issue with this fall season.
Nobody super wowed me yet. We'll see how it goes, and how new shows stack up. As season goes on it can be a challenge to keep up.

Yeah, surprisingly I really liked Usher and Shakira.
Wifey has been watching the Xfactor the last few weeks. Damn thats a terrible show compared to this one. It's nice to see mature acts and great voices compared to the pandering to all the teen acts and shitty auditions that the X Factor does.
BTW, anyone else sick of the bluesy/folksy renditions of pop songs? Both shows and AI all share this trend and it drives me nuts.

I really liked the show with Shakira and Usher. When they were there, the judges seemed to really like each other and it was fun watching them interact. Christina seems improved (so far) and I hope she keeps her new attitude. I can take Ceelo or leave him, but he does add a touch of the unexpected to the show.
Hope this season brings us some great new voices, but personally I'm looking forward to spring when Shakira and Usher come back.

I thought their original goal was to have two seasons of The Voice a year (fall and spring) with two sets of regular judges. Did they move away from that (presumably not considering they're on Season 5 in 2 years.)?

I like the chemistry of the judges and the singers are almost all okay or better. The show just has so much more energy and more fun than American Idol which to me feels tired and just going through the motions. Even with the Voice being on 2x a year vs. 1x for American Idol, I look forward to the Voice (audition rounds) much more than Idols. The judges begging for the best contestants is very entertaining.

This is never must see TV for me but I'll watch if nothing else is on...which is more than I can say for any singing competitions in the last five years.

Last season was my first so CeeLo and Xtina are new to me. Xtina was entertaining while CeeLo didn't really bring any energy like the other three (5 if you count Shakira & Usher).
Only watched the first blind audition. Out of those, my favorite three were Matthew Schuler, Josh Logan and Donna Allen.
Adam easily had the best group of talent back in the Spring and totally blew it.

E.G. Daily (sp?)!!!! I had her record back in 1986, or whatever. I'm sure it's still in my parents' home. I get that "The Voice" is also trying to be a show about second chances, but I draw the line at people whose records I have in my collection somewhere..... She had a top 40 hit!! On Billboard!!
