You could see the cannonball in the high-speed camera shot going by but it didn't look like it ever hit the barrels. They didn't explode like they did with the other shots.

Actually, it missed the cans completely:

Here's a sat map of the bomb site: link
I'm not sure why they didn't shoot to the north, which has a steep backing wall of dirt and miles of empty space behind it. Instead they shot to the side with a low gradient hill and a dense suburb just on the other side.

I went to see Mythbusters live on Saturday night in Chicago and during the audience Q&A, the first question that Jamie faced was one about the cannonball accident. To his credit, even though he looked a little frustrated that he was asked about this right out of the box, he talked about how they felt so bad about what had happened and that they had taken steps to ensure that something like that could never happen again.
Rest of the show was pretty cool, by the way. Nothing too spectacular on stage but all the kids in the audience (including my daughter) really seemed to enjoy it.

Also, I came away from the show with the same feeling. Not bad, not great, but the kids loved it.

I'd read about the accident, but hadn't dug up any of the local news stories.

So is it just me or has this been an abnormally long wait between seasons/episodes? Last new episode was around Thanksgiving.
Anyone know when it's returning?

I loved the original Battle of the Sexes episode and this one was just as fun.
I probably enjoyed the "men don't stop and ask for directions" myth way more than I should have. Watching someone else get lost and their reaction is hilarious. I thought giving them intentionally wrong directions was great.
I was kinda surprised at the "women are better multi-taskers" result.

I thought it was pretty lame. Both the axe vs. gun and slow zombie segments were just for the hosts to have fun basically and didn't really test anything.
I think the barricade one was the most interesting, but they didn't really do it justice. It would have been cool to see them test out various "improvised" barrier solutions. The classic boarded over window, dresser blocking door, etc. Or see if a horde could just bust through a standard residential exterior wall. And then have Adam and Jamie come up with some zombie proof barricading solutions using common household supplies and test those.

I agree, the barrier one was the only one remotely interesting, maybe the running through a crowd (but hard to really test that legitimately).
The gun vs axe was ridiculous. One, I would assume if you plunge an axe into a skull it's not going to just pop out. Second if you do have a gun you have more range and don't have to wait until they're inside some imaginary ring.
Good guest spot with Rooker. Looks like he was having a blast.

The barrier was the only useful myth. The gun vs axe would be interesting if the guy with the gun could move around and use the long range to his advantage - then the question comes up - does the stress impact your aim. Head shots are hard to pull off.
That Axe was ridiculously big!! WTF was up with that? They should have done some CSI testing and found what amount of force is needed to bash in a skull - then the axe should have one of those G-Sensors in it to see if Adam was delivering a "kill" blow or not. Then did he get tired, etc.
Good idea - I think next year it will be better
I don't think the producers / writers were walking dead fans. They seemed fixated that zombies only wanted on Brains, and not to eat live human flesh

I'd go with a sword before an axe. The sword will quickly decapitate zombies, whereas axes are designed for hewing wood. It's not an effective weapon.
And that barrier on the barn door would eventually give. If the wood didn't start splitting, the hinges would eventually give way.

Yeah but how likely are you to run across a sword vs. an axe?
You should submit that on their site. Although testing skull crushing force is kinda morbid, but didn't they test that before with a frozen hammer or something? Overall gun vs axe wasn't a bad idea for a myth, it was just poorly executed.
I agree!

Re: Mythbusters -- Season 9 -- 2011
Finally got to watch the zombie episode, disappointing. Grant's distraction robot was cool but could only be a one-time thing. Kari had a better plan although she has to make sure there are no witnesses if you wanted to do it over and over.
Agree with axe vs gun complaints. I'd also add they were simulating using a shotgun. A shotgun would be more effective knocking/slowing down multiple zombies with one shot.
That blonde zombie was kinda cute.
Their Breaking Bad episode was better.
