Mythbusters -- Season 9 -- 2011

Re: Mythbusters -- Season 9 -- 2011
I'd actually like to see the show end, or get reconfigured. It seems like they've long since run out of "myths", and they seem like they're going to the "recreate a movie scene" well more and more often.
The cast is very talented and entertaining, but I haven't found the show as compelling in recent years.

The 6/17 episode has to be the lamest ever. I just get the feeling there was no thought in any of their methodology. The unlimited ammo myth was silly to begin with. How is that even a myth? The bulletproof hero was equally stupid. They must have known the "draw first and lose" myth couldn't fill the episode, so they padded it with a lot of extraneous crap.

They've been doing Mythbusters for ten years and two hundred episodes. They're bound to run out of ideas.

I haven't watched it yet.
Didn't they just do the "First to move loses" myth with swords last week? It's not even really a myth because the "Draw Punk!" movie cliche is intended to show that the hero is such a bad ass that it doesn't matter if he gives his opponent the sizable advantage of waiting to react.

I really dug the random mailbag episode. They should do more of those.

Haven't they been doing that for years? Where viewers submit myths to be busted? I always thought those were subpar episodes.

Sort of. This was less about myths being submitted and more about just answering fans questions, and showing behind the scenes stuff in the shop. They interviewed the guy that does the blueprint drawings, etc. They did a little quiz show where Kari, Grant & Tori competed to see if they remembered myth outcomes and various things.
It was a fun little episode.

Adam & Jamie mentioned in their live show that the myth resulting in the house getting shot was scrapped for exactly the reason CPA-ESQ said.

Seems they would show it to drive home the point of what they do is dangerous. I'm sure they paid to fix the house & the owner got some $$$.

it could have been a perfect example of why they tell people not to try what they do at home. They could say something like "even with all the safety precautions we take and experience we and the guest experts have accidents can still happen"

I had high hopes when I saw the apology, but they didn't give much information on the accident other than using the footage they had up to the errant canon shot. It's too bad they didn't at least share the results of the investigation into what went wrong.

I agree. I understand them not showing the house and people but I would be interested to see what happened with the cannon ball. It clearly went at an angle since the barrel was too short (which they should have assumed may happen...) but it must have gone really wrong for it to end up in a neighborhood.

I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds like it would have been a great opportunity to go into safety & even professionals make mistakes angle, instead of just relying on the "we're experts, don't try this at home" nonsense before every episode.

I just wanna know how the hell the cannonball got past that hill behind the garbage cans! It looked like it shot straight out and hit the cans, then what? it rolled up the hill and kept going?

Re: Mythbusters -- Season 9 -- 2011
I went to see Mythbusters live on Saturday night in Chicago and during the audience Q&A, the first question that Jamie faced was one about the cannonball accident. To his credit, even though he looked a little frustrated that he was asked about this right out of the box, he talked about how they felt so bad about what had happened and that they had taken steps to ensure that something like that could never happen again.
Rest of the show was pretty cool, by the way. Nothing too spectacular on stage but all the kids in the audience (including my daughter) really seemed to enjoy it.
