I just think that so many hardcore horror fans are giving a lot of the elements of the show a pass because it exists. If this was a theatrical flick it'd have been eviscerated. Somehow, because it's on AMC and that it's a zombie show with gore it's all good.
It's not. It's a huge opportunity being squandered... Every pathetically stupid piece of writing(most of it) could have accomplished the very same thing in the plot had it been thought out just a little, and thus become more intelligent, and true to the characters and overall realism. The show could have been amazing had this been the approach. It's almost like they think it doesn't matter if it's stupid, and they need not worry about the quality of writing simply because it's horror. That's true in movies as well. Since it's a ratings success that yet again rewards mediocrity, just like the many 'blockbuster' films. There is always the largest appetite for mediocrity. "There is always a heavy demand for fresh mediocrity. In every generation the least cultivated taste has the largest appetite." - Paul Gauguin. I do get a kick out of the fanboys in this thread who need a Kleenex or throw a tantwum if anyone finds even the slightest fault with any aspect of the show |

Maybe its my own fault for not slavishly watching and reading every single zombie story that comes down the line. |

I thought the dialog was a bit forced & wooden in last last intro, and I think one other person said the same thing. Unfortunately what most people remember is the person who complained that they got the fishing jargon wrong in that scene. It is like when someone tries to tell an entertaining story and there is that annoying guy who pipes in starting with the words "Well actually..." and proceeds to correct the most trivial of details. Completely missing the fact that there it a story being told and not someone providing dry testimony to the court. |
Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
I think people are more annoyed by the general threadcrapping and constant whining repetition. I have no stake in whether anyone else likes this. I just don't see the point of constantly whining about it. Don't freakin watch it, problem solved.

Great article in the new Entertainment Weekly, mild spoilers too.
And yeah, those of us who like the show know it's not perfect. But it's laughable, at best, seeing the same people repeating the same whining all the time. |

Of course not silly person. Atlanta's a modern city now. Most of the buildings even have indoor toilets! ;)

Maybe zombie effects look better on a lighter skin? I mean "Lazy writing!!"

I predicted that there would be people who would watch all 6 episodes and complain about each and every one of them. That doesn't annoy me, it saddens me. |
Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
To be fair, some of those people are probaby giving the first season a shot, since it's only six episodes.
I've read all the comics, and have been since 2005. To whomever I've offended for saying that, please don't shoot me. But I also had problems with the characterization of the gang....they were revealed to be caregivers, and kind people, however they still were willing to let that one guy remain a hostage to Rick and co. (whom they assumed to be dangerous individuals) unless they get the guns? |
Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
Yeah, that wasn't really well executed. Or we didn't pay attention. I'll only have an issue with that if they come back to that group. Other way we can expect stuff like that when they meet other people, they only have 42 minutes to tell a story. I'm fine with that in a TV show.

Have all the threads been like this? rotfl

Except longer.

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
With bigger plot holes and worse writing.

Seriously..somebody literally called Morgan a pussy in the first episode because he couldn't shoot his zombified wife. This is what you're missing. ;) |

It seemed like they were forcibly explaining every single move of Merle's, just to satisfy the audience. "He must not have been able to cut the handcuffs because the blade was too dull." "He must have used his belt as a tourniquet - that's why there's not a lot of blood." "He must have burnt his nub with this flame." I dunno, that all just seemed way too forced to me, and I'd be fine leaving those "questions" unanswered.

One movie sucks because it makes no sense, another movie is awesome because it makes no sense. One movie sucks because there's no plot, another movie is awesome because there's no plot. One movie sucks because there's no explanation at the end, another movie is awesome because there's no explanation at the end. |

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
Rewatched the ep tonight and I must have missed a bit the first time around. They made it pretty obvious Merle was the one who brought the walkers to the camp.
