I gotta agree with Lemmy. Many of you obviously don't like zombie flicks. Why are you watching a zombie show? Or better yet, why are you expecting it to NOT be like a zombie flick? |

To any and all who have complained about this series:
I'll bet your zombie movie collection is mighty slim in the pickins' department, if your comments about the writing/direction/plot/motivation are any indication; this series makes mincemeat out of most zombie films. In fact, it ranks with the very best of them....and I'm not easily amused by zombie stuff, I've seen so much. If any of you can name ten zombie films better than this series, I'd be amused to hear them. Because there probably aren't ten zombie films that are this fucking good. I'm with this series until they have Rick jump a zombie shark on a jet-powered motorbike. Well.....maybe not that long. 1) Dead Set 2) Shaun of the Dead 3) The Walking Dead 4) Dawn of the Dead (remake) 5) Zombieland 6) Fido 7) Night of the Living Dead 8) Undead 9) Dawn of the Dead (Original) 10) Land of the Dead I'd rank the originals higher had I not gotten spoiled by modern special effects. |
Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
The Original Dawn Of The Dead, Shaun Of The Dead, and Zombieland are all better than this for sure.

So far I'd rank:
1) Dead Set 2) Shaun of the Dead 3) The Walking Dead 4) Dawn of the Dead (remake) 5) Zombieland 6) Fido 7) Night of the Living Dead 8) Undead 9) Dawn of the Dead (Original) 10) Land of the Dead I'd rank the originals higher had I not gotten spoiled by modern special effects. Modern special effects have spoiled films for me, too. But I don't think in the same way as they have for you. |
Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
Having watched literally every zombie movie ever made but never reading the comics, I find the potential for unpredictability intense. Even if an episode ends in a predictable manner there's enough uncertainty as an episode unfolds that the predictable isn't so predictable. (if that makes any sense)
I'm finding the series extremely entertaining. I feel sorry for those who, for whatever reason, don't. I agree with Dennis Hopper's character in LAND OF THE DEAD when he said, "Zombies, man. They creep me out." ...and I love it. :) |

Thought it was an OK episode, but really dug the ending. I wasn't expecting the sister to get taken out so soon. Glad to see the wife beater/pedofile gone.

I'm also not getting why some keep coming into the thread just to say it's a horrible show with horrible writing. I figure they would stop watching the show if they find it that bad and there'd be no need to post in these threads.
I'm finding problems in the writing myself, but I'm still enjoying the show I find it frustrating that the writers/director (in many shows) would get sloppy in some instances where it's easy enough to avoid the sloppiness. I agree about the other way down from the roof coming out of nowhere was dumb. As well as Ed sitting there for 5 seconds waiting to be eaten (sorry, I don't buy shock as an excuse). And the guy realizing why he dug the holes in the first place - wasn't it kind of obvious to anyone what he was doing right from the start? Like I said - still enjoying the show. |

I love how everyone complains in these threads because the characters aren't action heroes. It wasn't even so much that no one shot her right away as the fact the sister just kept leaning over her. I don't think it's been established yet how long it takes the body to become re-animated, but I sure as hell wouldn't lean over one, sister or not. |

As I mentioned before, while the writing is cringe-inducing at time, the show is still about zombies and is thus still entertaining as hell. (Guessing the other critics in this thread feel the same, and thus keep posting their thoughts on this flawed, fun show.) |

If you back through my posts in the threads for this show I doubt you'll find another complaint from me. I am absolutely loving the show.

I guess all the griping is these threads is making me a bit grumpy. To be honest though, Unless they've already faced it, I don't think anyone really knows how they'd react in any sort of life or death situation. Much less a zombie attack. |

You are allowed to criticize the writing in this thread if you've met the following criteria:
1. You've read all the comics 2. All of your previous comments on this show have been positive. 3. You like Arcade Fire |

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-7/276900/evil2.jpg I'm guessing it was his first time out and he was in the alley as a lookout. Cuz who else but a damn noob would be yelling at the top of his lungs in the middle of a freakin' zombie infestation?! My only dissapointment as I have said is that AMC only bought 6 episodes and the 2nd season will only be 13. Damned networks. |
Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
I enjoyed this episode. First time I've seen that actor as a "nurse" instead of a gangbanger..haha

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
The actor that got shot with the arrow in his ass was also the guy who got tangled in the barbed wire in the movie "Street Kings."
"What's your name son?" "They call me Quicks!" "Not quick enough" "Get me out of this man, it's cuttin' me up dog!" |

Basically, if you hate the show - then stay away... it makes no sense to post as it's thread-crapping. There's nothing wrong with criticizing aspects of the show even if you're enjoying it. It's done in the Dexter show thread as well as others.

Pretty simple. I do admit that maybe I've been a bit unfair to the show, holding up against other AMC shows that have excellent characterizations and dialog (Mad Men, Breaking Bad), instead of holding it up to other zombie movies. But criticizing that one aspect of the show is by no means thread-crapping. I don't understand people being so overly defensive in this instance - it's kinda weird actually. |
Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
NOt sure if this was mentioned in the other threads but here is a cool Google map of the things that happened in the comic books.
Major spoilers if you have not read the books! http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...d3ecc55ac63583 |
Re: The Walking Dead -- "Vatos" -- 11/21/10
After being very underwhelmed last week this was a marked improvement. I think I'm back on board for the remaining two episodes of the season.
