Favorite Star Trek captain?

So, who is your favorite Star Trek capo? (including movies)

Kirk because Picard was a pansey and I don't know the others.

Re: Favorite Star Trek captain?

Picard was my favorite for a long time. I grew up on TNG, and I loved how he was so thoughtful and mindful of history, while at the same time unafraid to take action when it was necessary.

But as I got into TOS more, and watched the movies, it became clear to me that Kirk was the better captain. While Picard had all these different sides to him, Kirk was like an elemental force. Throw in Spock and Bones and you have the reason Star Trek became so popular in the first place.

Sisko is also great, but he's more than a captain. His destiny isn't at the helm of a starship, it's helping broker intergalactic peace.

The other ones aren't even worth considering, unless you want to add Bruce Greenwood's portrayal as Christopher Pike.

Let's see how much the results change, if any, from 9 years ago.

Benjamin LaFayette Sisko, with TOS movies era Kirk, and Picard as second and third.

Re: Favorite Star Trek captain?

Picard should objectively be the best since he actually prevented countless conflicts with his diplomafu but Kirk's animalistic primal side still wins out. Btw if this also includes the movies than Kirk even moreso.

I've heard it be
movie kirk>tv kirk
tv picard>movie picard

Captain Edward Jellico, because he didn't take whiny crap from Riker and he laid down the law and made Troi wear an official Starfleet uniform like every other Starfleet officer on board.

Captain Picard

Re: Favorite Star Trek captain?

Picard is the best acted and pretty clearly the most accomplished (not to minimize what Sisko did at all because his contribution was immense but much more targeted than Picard who did good all over the place). Picard is also the guy I started with. He's my choice.

Kirk is probably the best character.

I'd vote for one of those insane captains who convert whole planets to Nazism first.

Hell, by any reasonable measure, Janeway was one of those insane captains.

Which version of James T. Kirk?
William Shatner or Chris Pine

Geez, I guess I need to watch DS9 even though I keep putting it off. Does anyone know why it doesn't have a syndicated deal like Voyager?

I vote Kirk; Picard pissed me off because they made him too diplomatic whereas sometimes you just need to blast the mothers out of the sky. On the other hand, Picard of the Enterprise in Yesterday's Enterprise was the ultimate captain.

And yes, Jelico was awesome and he should have returned for more episodes.

Voting for Chris Pine Kirk is dumber than voting for Janeway.

I was always a big fan of Sisko. I just loved Deep Space Nine more than the other series.

But I also have a special place in my heart for Captain Calhoun (the inspiration of my screen name, too!) (He's from the New Frontier books, by the way.)

making troi wear a uniform made her hotter

I voted Kirk and Sisko. especially bald with goatee Sisko
they both had federation values but also understood that sometimes an ass kicking is needed or else others will walk all over you
riker and archer had a touch of that too, archer's time was cut short due to network incompetency
janeway made bad decision after bad decision simply for the sake of the show being able to maintain the "lost 70,000 light years from home" theme
harriman seemed way out of his league, and not just because the ship had minimal crew and was laking equipment (why the f*** did they send it out on a maiden voyage missing key components anyway? Kirm was too busy the following week?)

There was a book that featured him and his crew (Captain's Daughter) that was very well written and really made me enjoy him as Captain and the Enterprise B crew. I always wished that we had some Enterprise B movies with him at the helm.

But that said, I also always wished we got the Captain Sulu Excelsior movies that were promised years ago during the days of UPN. After Star Trek 6 they were going to develop Captain Sulu movies with the Excelsior as made for TV movies. For some reason they never panned out.

And Captain Sulu is another kick ass "other" option.

I don't give a fuck what anyone says. I liked ALL the Captains for one reason or another. I'll also throw in Star Trek 2009's Pike.

I don't mind Voyager as most do simply because it's a Star Trek show but that it also has some fun science-orientated episodes even if they do the techno-babble resolution far too many times.

However, I totally agree with your assessment; having just watched False Profits, I kept wondering why Janeway didn't just take off if the Ferengi were wanting to stay. It's those kinds of stupid no-brainers that do ruin whatever fun is to be had in some episodes.
