Damn the no-research rule. I thought this one took place in California, but looking it up now I see it was Florida. :(

I guess I'll throw out a challenge on this one. Wasn't Matlock a lawyer show, not a cop show?

I second the challenge of Matlock. Law show. Not cop show.

Also, I'm skeptical of Cops never having a California episode. But I'm not going through the labor of looking through all the eps.

 I have to agree with that one too.

Matlock is a Wrong Answer.

NORML54601 goes from -4 to 4.

The question states:

R: Name a cop show produced primarily for US television that was not set in New York City, Baltimore or California.

Was COPS "set in" California, even if it filmed an episode there?

And to be clear, it did:

Coast to Coast #2235

Episode 43 | Season 22 (2009-2010)
(Airdate Jul 31, 2010)

Officers from San Ysidro Customs and Border Protection in California engage in a sting operation to catch undocumented aliens coming into the U.S. Later, the officers halt a suspicious vehicle crossing the border, which eventually leads them to a major drug bust.

Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!

Some episodes could have been set there.

The question doesn't say 'primarily set.'

I was under the impression that setting met, the show took place there all the time. Cops does not. It jumps around and it may have a few in California, but it is not set there.

^If it was ever set in Cali then it shouldn't count.

COPS wasn't "set" anywhere. But I imagine it had episodes in all three of those places.

Devil's advocate: if there's an episode of Memphis Beat where the characters go to a convention in Baltimore, should we eliminate that show?

So if the question read "not set in the U.S.", Cops would be a correct answer acc'd to you since it's not "set" anywhere. ?

macnorton 08-09-10 02:34 PM

Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!

Although I disagree with the ruling, Red Dog has a point too. I have a feeling that question may pose a problem or two.

WallyOPD 08-09-10 02:34 PM

Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!

If another show had a "travel" episode where they went to California/NY/Baltimore to investigate a case, would they be disqualified too? Or is there a certain number of episodes that need to take place there to count?

Depends if they ever had an episode focused on Mounties and/or Federales!
