I will third the challenges to Life on Mars.

Oh, man -- I just thought of a great show I should have gone with. I feel like a cocksucking hooplehead for not thinking of it.

I have to say that I can see the challenge for my answer (US) going either way. I'll be interested in the ruling. My answer, as somebody who didn't watch, was based on my understanding of the ABC promos for the show.

I guess an answer like The Rifleman would have been preferable. Didn't have that idea going in...

I had one idea that I didn't know if it would count, since it was a private detective show and not a police show. I chickened out and played it safe.

That's kind of a stretch for a cop show.

Just finished reading this whole thread. Funny stuff. I have to be the WORST sheep player of all time! Thanks to Tracer Bullet for taking the time to do this.

If I hadn't won the "sheep" sheep, I would challenge you for that title.

IMO Life on Mars (US) should absolutely count. The question says a show that was set partially in the past. Just about all of Life on Mars was set in the past despite the revelation at the end.

The main character was a marshal!

The main character was a saloon owner! Maybe, season 1 you could argue otherwise, but in that case the main character was a hardware store owner.

Screw you. That show is awesome. Shawn + Gus + Lassie = hilarity.

And don't think I've forgotten that you all laughed at me when I said it had a good theme song. You're wrong about that, too.

I think it would be dumb to disqualify Life on Mars. That's like saying St. Elsewhere wasn't set in a hospital.

Or that Newhart wasn't set in an inn in Vermont.

Except that the ends of St. Elsewhere and Newhart were just headline-grabbing twists, rather than the conceit for the entire series.

My wife loves that theme song. I thought it was much better before they started doing the extended version.

And, yes, that show is awesome. We just watched the alien abduction one last night. It was hilarious.

Psych is an excellent example of a show that could be lame as hell, but instead is great. It walks a fine line between serious and silly, and thanks to some likable characters and good scripts it succeeds far more often than it fails.

Gus: "Very good"
Shawn: "That was the creepiest very that I've ever heard"
