Let's get challenges out of the way. Here's the full list of answers:
Castle yes Columbo unsure CSI: New York maybe Dexter yes Homicide: Life on the Street yes Law & Order: Criminal Intent maybe Law and Order maybe Memphis Homicide Squad unsure NYPD Blue maybe Police Squad no Quincy, M.E. unsure Robbery Homicide Division yes The Closer unsure The First 48 yes The Glades unsure The Streets of San Francisco unsure |
Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!
I'm inclined to discount Castle, Dexter, L&O: Criminal Intent, Memphis Homicide Squad, Police Squad, Quincy, M.E., and The Closer.
|
Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!
i'd argue all my maybe answers probably deal with murder cases the most, and should be counted as yes answers.

Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!
L&O is correct - they worked in the Robbery/Homicide unit and most episodes involved a homicide.
|
Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!
Is CSI:NY primarily the homicide beat? Don't they investigate other crimes as well? I guess it depends on what you mean by "beat." I don't think the CSI guys have any specific beat, but most of the cases they show them investigating are homicides.

Criminal Intent follows a division of the New York City Police Department, the "Major Case Squad". The Major Case Squad investigates high-profile cases (in most cases murder)... |
Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!
I will confess I haven't seen every episode of L&O: CI, but I have never seen one that didn't involve a homicide.
|
Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!
Allow me to defend Quincy by stating that it was a TV show in which homicides were investigated by characters, including police officers, who were series regulars. If Cracker or Psych count, so does Quincy.
|
Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!
I'd like to challenge Quincy but, hell, I haven't seen it in a quarter century. I can't remember any details.

Castle is right, too. Kate Beckett (Stanic Katic's character) is a homicide detective in the show. Stana Katic as Detective Kate Beckett – a homicide detective with the NYPD. She is a first-class investigator who has gained a reputation as a detective who's intrigued by unusual cases. She joined the force after her mother was murdered and the case was never solved. |
Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!
In that case, The Andy Griffith Show qualifies due to the 2-parter where they track down the "Mayberry Strangler".
|
Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!
Okay, let's go Uniques. All worth -10 points.

damn it. i knew i shouldn't have used Robbery Homicide Division twice.
|
Re: The Return of TV Sheep: Cop Shows!
I think Dexter totally counts, since Dexter, although not a cop himself, works in the homicide department with homicide detectives.
Edit: Oops, didn't see the post above. Disregard! |
