It's funny - at the end of Smoke, when Arthur and Jack go to leave the office and then turn around and stare at Serena, my eyes lit up and I thought, "this is it.....she's going to resign or something!" Unfortunately she was just giving her two cents worth. :(

And what happened to the showing of the first L&O episode ever? It was just another rerun at 8 p.m. here...

the first episode was great. reminded me of the episode (forgot the name) where they find a body in a trunk and they are looking for a murderer. it was supposed to be in real time; back when Benjamin Bratt was on there. Good episodes, though. :up:

I saw this and was like wtf? I don't remember starting a L&O thread recently!

The rumor is that she did not leave on good terms with Dick Wolf. Keep in mind that her departure came at the time approaching the writers' strike in 2001. Dick Wolf wanted to shoot extra episodes at the end of the 2001 season so NBC could cover the fall 2002 schedule with some original L&Os. Angie Harmon apparently gave Dick Wolf almost no notice that she was quitting and I don't think Dick Wolf appreciated it too much.

Unfortunately, he had to scramble to find a replacement and judging by Rohm's lack of acting skills, it shows. The other rumor is that he wanted to sign Shannen Doherty but she was still under contract for Charmed. Ironically, she ended up quitting Charmed that same spring. Had the writers' strike not been threatened that spring, Shannen Doherty could quite possibly be the ADA on L&O today. Damn writers.

She is the weakest part of the acting ensemble, but the show is so strong, it doesn't affect it. Especially considering that she is only on the show for about half of it every week...

I couldn't disagree more. The last 2 seasons of L&O have been easily the worst IMO. The police halves are still decent but she completely brings down the 2nd half. Poor Sam Waterston - even he cannot make up for her glaring deficiencies. It is no coincidence that the 2nd to last episode of this season, Couples, which featured the cops only for 90% of episode, was the strongest of the last 2 seasons.

Rohm's the ditzy blond assistant DA, correct? She's the reason why I haven't been watching L&O on NBC for a while.

I liked Elizabeth Rohm when she was on Angel. She has no chemistry with anyone on this show. I still enjoy Law and Order it just feels like they have done everything under the sun. Criminal Intent with Vincent D'Onofrio is my favorite version these days.

She'd at least be familiar with the terminology, considerng how much time she's spent in court.

But then we might have missed out on the glorious Scare Tactics... :rolleyes:

This was a much better episode than SVU, but hasn't the whole attorney-client privilege conflict been done to death..?

Oh...and I really wish NBC would stop with the "RIPPED FROM THE HEADLINES" promos...-rolleyes-

Take this knowing it comes from one that isn't a fan of the show nor has watched that much of it. It probably has been a couple years since I have seen one but I couldn't have told you if it was new or not. I know that is part of the reason that people tune in because every show is almost identical (IMO) but I didn't feel like I have missed out on anything all these years.

The last episode I can recall seeing and liking was when Jill Hennessey died but remember that was a "special" episode when they broke from the mold of their format. The show just isn't for me (and it would have to be if it included Angie Harmon and still didn't get me to tune in).

It was a Good episode. Still like L&O [only watch the og one, NO SPIN-OFFS!], and Still In LOVE with ELISABETH ROHM:)

I thought that same thing while watching it. Why get someone to rip off Kevin Spacey? Why not try to cast him instead?

I really liked the episode though. It would have been nice to have some closure about the bodies, but the fact that they didn't maybe makes it a bit better given that a lot of shows tend to like to wrap up their episodes completely...

I loved the fact that the writers didn't resolve the issue with the bodies. L&O (the original) has the habit of wrapping everything up a little too neatly. Granted, lawyer/client priviledge has been beaten to death but the lack of closure made this ep worthy. Good start but next week we're back to the ripped from the headlines stuff again.

Basically the killer told his attorney that he had killed 15-16 other girls and had their bodies stored under lock and key. Since the new attorney was a hotshot, he wanted to see this and confirm the guys story for himself, and found out he was right. He had them stacked in a room (or something), but now that he knew the 'Attorney/Client Privilege' keeps him from telling the DA. So he is charged with the crime of Aiding and Abedding the killer and is found guilty of it.

Would you have cracked, broke the 'Attorney/Client Privilege' and told the DA were all the bodies were if you that killer's lawyer?

Me? I probably would... like Waterson said in the show, no law office is hold something that grievous against you if it would solve so many cases. Although I see where the young attorney is coming from, I'd rather see closure to the lives of many families and get a new career that sit and rot in jail.
