I knew that was coming, the infamous "kiss of death"
and dude, Russia, messing with Jack is like picking a fight with Chuck Norris ... you just don't do it!

Kudos to the writers for doing it. It hit be like a brick wall. I haven't felt like this since the Shield finale.

Renee's death really was unnecessary. I'm pretty bummed about it; totally unfair to the character and to Jack. I guess it's realistic, but was it really necessary for the story? I guess I'm just shocked and mad more than anything. The writers better use her death well in the final episodes and not have had it been in vain. Jack better unleash some of the most bad ass things he has ever done; maybe he'll be able to kill Logan too!
I'm sorry, but just because a show is ending doesn't mean it doesn't matter if you kill off great characters ESPECIALLY when the show is going to continue with at least one movie. It still matters what happens to these characters in the context of the show and those of us who have enjoyed it for 9 years. A cancellation shouldn't be a blank check to kill off characters.

Meh. I thought Renee was a decent character, but I got tired of all of the "she's the 2nd-coming of Jack" silliness.

I'm still shocked. I thought maybe one of them would get shot but survive. I definitely wasn't expecting Renee to die though.
I just feel really bad for Jack; all the women he has loved are either dead or catatonic. Not just the women he loved, but all of his friends too. With the exception of Chloe, Kim, and his granddaughter, Jack really has no reason to live. And even then, he has to be thinking that it might be best for them if he isn't around since he is a harbinger of death.
---
Still, my disgust at Renee's death aside, the episode was really solid. Sorry to see Hastings go, he proved to be a stand-up guy. At least Chloe is in charge for a change, although I wonder how she will handle the position. So far she seems to be on the ball and making the right calls.
I think the writers are on a roll and that they will keep it up until the very end. I really hope Logan gets what he deserves by the end of the series.
And I'm still holding out hope that we get some resolution on the shadow organization.

I thought it was great, though it really wasn't necessary. I love that it sets up Jack to go on a no-holds-barred rampage, but they could have done the same thing by having her in very questionable condition only to find out in the final frame of the show that she's lived.
Still, I thought it was pretty great.
And LOL at Chloe in Hastings' position...especially since 12 hours ago she didn't understand the current CTU systems and 4 hours ago she pulled a gun on Homeland Security :

I didn't think they'd do it, but I'm kind of glad they did. She was too distracting to Jack. We need him on his A-game for the final 6 hours.

Renee hasn't been an interesting character since the end of season 7. David Palmer's death hit me much harder. Heck, even Chappelle.
I will say that what has become of Jack is, at this point, just cruel. To the point where it oddly becomes uncomfortable to watch.

Yeah that was cruel, especially since this is prob one of the first times during the shows run that Jack has actually gotten laid

Holy fucking shit.
This show has done a complete one eighty in the past 4 hours. My jaw was agape at the end. I can't believe they went through with it. Big
to Chloe's promotion. That was a long time coming.

It's true. As pissed as I was with that ridiculous mole turn and her Hamburglar acting, I'm back on board with where they're going. To make it even more of a stunner for me, I had to catch up on last week's shows tonight. So after these last few eps, I'm pretty much smoked at this point.
