Here's how I read that scene: Claire looked mad as hell at Kate and when it looked like Smokey might killer her she guided her down to safety with her so she could be the one to finish her off. Unless she finds out her 'friend' has been lying to her.

Well, she knows some has to be lying to her now. Keep something in mind, the MiB (her friend) told her that her baby was at the Temple. She can put one and one together and see that Aaron isnt there. If Kate is telling the truth, that means she knows she is following a guy that lied to her.

Maybe Sayid was unable to kill MIB because MIB wasn't himself when Sayid stabbed him. Maybe MIB has to be in his original human form before he can be killed (the way he appeared on the beach in the Season 5 finale). Jacob was himself when Ben killed him. Thoughts?

I thought the episode was okay. I really felt like the off-island flash was filler, especially since this is the first one that we've seen where the story isn't mostly resolved. Guess we'll pick up the Jin/Sayid story later.
I'm confused why they bothered to introduce new characters only to blow them off. Also, everybody is critical of Kate, but she seems more loyal than the flight attendant who goes wherever it is "safe".

So maybe the deal is, that in this "alt" universe you will be moderately happy and everything will go ok for you, and therefore it doesn't matter if you die on the island because you can be secure in the fact that due to some time rift you actually have everything you want, it's just not this version of you.
I mean in the flash sideways Locke is getting married, Jack is reconciling with his son, sayid is with Nadia(kind of), Hurley is rich and lucky, Kate seems to be having fun running from the law, Claire is having her baby, sawyer seems like he could be a god guy, Jin is locked in a cooler...wait the last one doesn't work, but you catch my drift....maybe the promise from MiB and Jacob is that your life does/will turn out well just not this timeline (if there are even two timelines)

Their marriage came to an abrupt end, however, when she was killed in Los Angeles in late October 2005. She was hit by a car in a hit-and-run collision while Sayid was occupied with giving directions to a stranger.
Was that stranger Jacob?
