Are we assuming MiB and Jacob are looking for their replacements? If they've spent hundreds of years on the island and want to leave, why would someone want to take their place? That's a shitty job.

I thought Richard told Sawyer that MiB was planning to kill EVERYONE on the island. And someone else mentioned he was recruiting. I don't see replacements in that scenario.

Good call. Sawyer has demonstrated a transition into the role of protector throughout the series. Even becoming the head of security for Dharma. Mark my words: Sawyer is the hero of this story.
I guess noone read my SPOILER above :( Guess I shouldn't have "spoiler-ized" it.

I think Richard's take on events is unreliable. Hawkeye does not intend to kill Sawyer.

I also think we haven't seen the last of Widmore. He told Locke "a war is coming" and I think that war is obviously between Jacob and his recruits VS. Smokie and his recruits.

Widmore still fits into this somehow. At least I hope so, I love his character.

Mmm...Jacon. That must be why his body wasn't in the fire anymore in the season premiere.

I agree with this. I also think the recruits for each side could be a mix of Others and Losties. And then Widmore's gang. I expect he'll factor into this somehow.

I wouldn't want to take over a job that would make me bitter over time and makes me stick around for a long ass time on a boring island. All the while I'm manipulating people while trying to them to "play our game" so that we can be replaced.

Yes. I mean, what an awful sales pitch. I'm not convinced this is a replacement search. Seems to easy for this show.

If it does turn out to be a replacement search, I expect it won't be voluntary.

Sorry. I just quoted the most recent post about Sawyer being a possible good guy replacement. I'll give credit where credit is due.

Re: Lost: The Final Season -- "The Substitute" -- 02/16/10

Sawyer might be a "good" replacement because he is a con man and that seemingly is what Jacob is.

It seems that of the two (Jacob and MIB), Jacob actually likes the island. I think MIB not only wants to escape, but he wants it destroyed. I'm sure he's that bitter. Maybe it's a battle to keep the island safe, or something.

Jacob loves the island, but let's face it he's been somewhat abusive over the years. Now the island is with Jacob's rival. His rival can't kill Jacob, because that would be against the code, but he needs to protect the island and its inhabitants from Jacob, so he dispatches him however he can.

I wouldn't be surprised if in the end, we find out Smokie has been more "good" then Jacob. I think the final scene is Jack and Locke arguing on the island in the places of MiB and Jacob with a future ship landing in the distance.

This makes me wonder... what if Jacob has some sort of special power related to children in some way? Maybe he can use a child as a 'vessel'? It would explain why the Others were always trying to round up all the children, and also why they were desperate to make childbirth happen.

Related to that, maybe Smokey can't harm or influence children. And perhaps he is the one making the fertility problems happen, as a preemptive strike because he can't do anything to the children once they are born?

I love some of the little things they're doing, such as how Locke's alarm clock made the same sound as the hatch alarm.

Also, the transition sound between the sideways flashes and the island stuff sounds like a mix of the previous flashforward/flashback sounds, but with the sound of the plane breaking apart mixed in as well.

Isn't it a little strange that Locke didn't recognize Hurley from the plane? I can understand him not recognizing Rose, but come on, Hurley is ... well, Hurley. He's quite memorable.

15 - Ford

It's not their ages when they met Jacob, and I don't think it's their seats on the plane either. Any theories?

... but in order...

4 - Locke
8 - Reyes
15 - Ford
16 - Jarrah
23 - Shephard
42 - Kwon

We get Hurley's numbers.

Plus, Kate is missing from the list, but if I remember correctly, Jacob never touched her.

What about Mile's Dad?

So you're a "fatist" I take it? You recognize every fat person you've seen in you life.

Addressed on page 3 or so. Jacob touched her nose after she tried to steal the lunch box.
