It may also be that they settled on the title of the show and then went back and named the character in an effort to be clever.

I liked it - I believe the wife did too.

I have a friend whose birth name is "Leslie Anne" but we've always called her Lux. I figured it's just a nickname.

The show had a handful of names before they settled on Life Unexpected. Which it was officially picked up in May, it was called "Parental Discretion Advised".

Wow, good thing they changed it

I enjoyed the premiere. Definitely recaptures the old WB feel.

Does anyone know if they're going to be doing the encore airings every week? I have conflicts with 24 and The Big Bang Theory in that spot.

A lot of people's hair darken as they get older. My sister and I were both very light blonde as children, while our parents had darker hair as adults. My roots have gotten a lot darker through the years.

So, how was it that Baz's friends had no memory of her ever being pregnant? Most people in high school talked about the pregnant girls, even the ones who went away for awhile. I thought that was odd she was able to keep it hidden from everyone.

I really loved the show and can't wait for the next episode.

My thoughts exactly. Good to see some strong ratings for this.

Loved seeing Shiri again, I thought she was great. The review I read said that the show takes two or three episodes to hit its groove, so I have high hopes for this.

I thought it was a nice move, having the birthmom be on the radio, and the kid listening to her growing up and as she moved from foster to foster. I think that really sold the show for me.

Re: Life Unexpected -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 01/18/10

I thought this was quite good! Sure some of the dialogue was cheesy in places, but that was already touched on. On the other hand I though some of it was rather real. I was very surprised by the chemistry between Kerr and Shiri.

I did find Kate and Baze spending this night odd and interesting at the same time. I guess given how messed up Kate is - as demonstrated by her rant the next morning - I wasn't totally shocked that she waltzed into the show the that same morning "after" and proposed. I feel like will bite her in weeks to come even though Ryan seems like a very laid back and understanding character.

I think the show already has a good sense of itself and is not taking things too seriously (such as the YouTube segment with the lion). I hope that helps keep the show grounded. It will be very interesting to see where they take this since I'm sure they can easily fall into cliched stories.

Yes, and the best part is that it was genuine despite Kate's proclaimed non-maternal instinct. Even better is that Lux said that without knowing that she actually was her mom.

I will also echo that it really did feel like a WB show rather than everything else new that the CW has put on. Heck, as good as it has been this year, Smallville no longer feels like the WB show it once was.

I noticed Lux's box was missing outside of Baze's house in the morining. It was there in the Foster parents' house with the rest of her stuff.

Also, how did the Judge have info on the parents (have jobs, no records, working cars)? I thought they might have put in paper to get custody of Lux but their reaction to being given custody seem to match that.

The pilot episode is available free on iTunes. This isn't the type of show I normally watch, but I thought it was pretty good. I'd like to see where' they go with this; it seemed like that the plot of the pilot could have been stretched out over a much longer time frame.

Wait, Smallville is good now? I've been tempted with all the DC comics stuff, but it's been years since I gave up on that show. Worth jumping back in?

One thing I wasn't sure about in this pilot... did Lux know what her mom was doing coming out of the bar? Her snide remark seemed to indicate so, but I wasn't sure. Not that she would spill the beans easily, considering how she likes the new family dynamic and probably wouldn't want to disrupt it...

The majority of last season of Smallville was good and this season has been perhaps the best to date. Some will disagree, but come over to one of the Smallville threads and we can discuss. Heck, start one saying "Been out since season x, thinking about getting back in." (or search in case one is already there). That we can discuss at more length without spoilers. Or always PM me.

I wondered the same thing about the morning after. It seemed like she knew, but then Kate changed the subject and then they didn't revisit.

Re: Life Unexpected -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 01/18/10

I concur with the other poster who says he's missed Shiri Appleby since her days on Roswell. She's a good actress and easy on the eyes. But I also agree with those who say she just doesn't look like the mother of a 16 year old -- she almost looks 16 herself.

The actress playing the daughter is very good.

The only thing I don't like is the intrusive background music. I know this is the CW and aimed at a younger audience than me but that music was irritating as hell. I don't mind instrumental background music, but when every single second of a show has someone singing in the background (and pretty loudly at that) my hand starts reaching for the remote. That said, I like this show overall and think it has promise.

Kind of weird that they answered both these questions in the second episode, and that the answers were connected.
