Life Unexpected -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 01/18/10

life unexpected

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
In the series opener, teenage Lux (Britt Robertson) attempts to leave the foster-care system and become an emancipated minor. She locates her birth parents (Shiri Appleby and Kristoffer Polaha) for the first time, then winds up in their custody. Ryan Thomas: Kerr Smith.

I've read some good reviews, so I'm willing to give this a shot. I've missed Shiri Appleby since Roswell was canned years ago. However, I don't buy her playing a mother since she's only 31 and the actress who plays her daughter is 19.

Scheduling-wise, this is going to fill in for Gossip Girl until March and then this will move into One Tree Hill's timeslot at 8pm when Gossip Girl returns until all 13 episodes complete airing.

Craig Ferguson brought this up on his show when Shiri was on. Apparently her character got pregnant at 16, and the daughter is 16 now, so guess it's not a huge stretch for the actresses. But Shiri doesn't even look 31 to me.

Glad to see Kerr Smith ("Dawson's Creek") back on the CW (i.e., the WB). Can't believe he's 38!

Re: Life Unexpected -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 01/18/10

I saw the Pilot long time ago (August?) and it was really great. I don't think they went back and changed much, so what airs will really feel like a WB show.

Hopefully CW gives it time to grow since it's going up against 24.

With all the shit on tonight, I'm going to record the next showing of it. I think they're replaying it on Wednesday or something? I'll give it a shot for Appleby.

Yes, they are re-airing it 8pm on Wednesday which will be much better for my DVR to catch it.

I am really looking forward to it. Every review I have read says this harkens back to WB shows and I loved the WB...

When I first heard about this at the upfronts last year I was skeptical. However, I'm hearing good things and I thought both Appleby and Smith did good work in their WB days. I'll definitely check it out.

Does anybody know if this will be on the CW website, or will they delay this like some of their other shows.

What are the odds for 2 brunettes (guy and gal) to make a blonde baby?

I thought this was a wonderful premiere with a great cast. Definitely brings back the WB feeling. Only small gripe is that he dialog gets a bit corny, but that was expected.

If I'm remembering my genetic's class right hair and eye color are actually determined based on DNA proteins that are determined by grandparents, and not parents. Same thing happened to me and my sisters we all have blond hair despite both our parents having really dark brownhair.

But I really enjoyed the show, the cast and the feelings like everyone is saying. It felt like how I felt when "Gilmore Girls," "Everwood," and "Dawson's Creek" premiered. Hopefully it faired well in the ratings...

Re: Life Unexpected -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 01/18/10

Ratings were actually pretty good for this, especially being a CW show.

2.74M viewers and a 1.2 in the 18-49 demographic. Haven't watched it yet, but now looking forward to it even more.

I will be tuning in for the wed night showing. Was a little turned off by the promos "juno meets the gilmore girls" , but from what i gathered during "24" commercial breaks, it seems like a solid return to old school WB kinda show, which i like.

Really liked the premiere. I like that the cast seems more like "normal" people than most of the other shows on the network. All 4 of the leads seem likable from this episode.

Can't figure out what name 'Lux' comes from. Only thing I can think of is Luxuanna from TNG but I know it isn't that.

Lux Interior? If parents were Cramps fans.

My first thought was Lux from "Virgin Suicides", but the movie was released in 2000 and Lux was born 1994. Lux means "light" in Latin.

The novel came out in 1993.

Thanks, looks like that may be the source of Lux.

Re: Life Unexpected -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 01/18/10

Thought this was an excellent debut episode for this show.

I think they did a very good job introducing Lux and her birth parents. It was actually refreshing to see some characters that could be my next door neighbor. I already noticed in the previews that Shiri Appleby and Kristoffer Polaha's appearances have changed a little since I assume the Pilot was shot many months before they began shooting this show.

I think pairing this with One Tree Hill was an excellent idea. Hopefully the ratings hold up next week.
