If Renee and Jack ever had a kid, it'd be the biggest badass on the planet.

I'm not digging the subplot with Dana and her ex one bit. It feels like boring filler. They better resolve it soon or make thex part of the conspiracy and have him use Dana as a mole in CTU. Preferably the former.

Aside from the fact that the subplot is extremely boring, that Kevin dude just needs killed. Whether it's FPJ becoming the Jack (or Tony) for the next generation or Dana finally growing a set and doing it herself, someone needs to take that dude out. And ASAP! I can't stand him.
Otherwise, a good episode, save the decoy car. As much as I'm often behind the times in picking out what's going to happen in episodes (of any show), I saw that one coming. If I did, you know Jack should have.

love how the writers tried to outfox the viewers
they did get me in that I thought the kid was going to blow the background cover (hotel name) when he had to do the profile in Dana's place
the decoy car was 100% predictable other than I thought Renee and 4 fingers would still just be stationary in the car they were put in still in the garage when they did the reveal ... not following behind 5 mins later

Solid episode. Really enjoying this side of Renee; she's like a completely different person, but somehow it still manages to work. I do really hope they delve more into what happened with her in the end of last season and the beginning of this season because it is such a dramatic change. That was crazy how Renee just sat there expressionless as Vladimir shot the guy.
Jack seemed a little off tonight. I understand him following the first car, but not having CTU keep an eye on the place just in case should have been the first thing Jack thought of; maybe Renee is clouding his judgment a little.
Really hope they resolve Starbuck's storyline quickly, it's detracting from more interesting things. At least we know her past now. I did get a kick out of how he invited a friend over and that guy was just chilling on the couch watching TV as he choked Starbuck.
Glad to see Hastings is just listening to whatever Jack says...about time. I was actually disappointed we didn't see more Cole this week.
lol @ the preview for next week:

This is my first episode this season, but WTF @ not checking Renee for a wire, especially since the dude was so suspicious of her in the first place, not to mention his subordinate's claim about the feds clamping down on them 18 months after she showed up the first time.

Sorry, but I'm still not getting the timeline here.
I heard from some other sources that the gap between seasons 7 and 8 was only 6 weeks. I also heard up to maybe 3 or 4 months, but in any event, not much time has passed since last season.
Renee was a super bad ass undercover agent that could hold her own with people like Vlad and the other Russians 6 years ago at the age of what...24 or 25. Then when she's 30 at the start of last season she's about as green as they come. Not willing to bend the rules and very easily freaked out. She spends 24 hours with Bauer, learns to be a bad ass again, then gets fired due to her Bauer tactics, has a meltdown, tries to kill herself and now 6 weeks later she's a bigger bad ass than Jack ever was.
I just don't get it. Right now, she appears to have the same personality as she did when she was undercover 6 years ago--cold, uncaring, ruthless, etc. She seems like the same person to Vlad at least. How could she be so green at the start of last season afer all she'd been through before?
It would make more sense to me if season 7 was years ago and she's spent the whole time undercover and that's what has caused her meltdown because she went from a green FBI agent to spending 24 hours with Jack, which would mess anybody up, and then going right to being an undercover agent infiltrating this Russian group and doing God knows what.
Anybody have any thoughts on this? What am I missing?

She wasn't a badass 6 years ago. That's why Vlad kept saying "you look different". He knows he's not dealing with the same girl he beat (and possibly raped) 6 years ago.

I generally agree with the rest though. Someone who was undercover and likely saw some crazy things (even if she didn't do it herself) wouldn't be so shocked by what Jack was doing last season.
More likely though, it's just a plot hole that came up after the writers realized how good the character was and how well-received she was by the audience, and they knew she needed to be part of future seasons.

So, even if she was trusted to do what she did while she was undercover, wouldn't she have been more "Jack-like" at the start of season 7 since she had already been through some serious shit? I mean she wasn't a complete weakling, but if she really went through everything we've been led to believe while undercover, I would think she would have been a lot different at the start of season 7. Maybe not a pyscho like she is now, but much "tougher" than she was at the start of last season.

Not sure why that would be, Jack's granddaughter was an infant last season and is probably over 2 by now so I think we're looking at somewhere between 1.5 - 2 years since season 7.

damn, I thought the first 40 minutes was a snoozefest.
Besides the few minutes of the Hassan purge storyline, it was bleh.
But the episode ended great. Renee gave a great speech, which sadly was true.
The decoy car tricked my rookie ass
Somebody kill Kevin Wade and get it over with. Please.
