Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?

Kimmel is being unfortunately tame tonight. A quick NBC sucks joke, then onto normal American Idol stuff.

Is this from another episode? I honestly don't recall.

There is one part of you post I'm going to quote.
If Conan was really so concerned about his staffers as you imply, he would have taken the 12am time slot so they would never have missed a paycheck. But in the end it was about Conan's ego and nothing else. That is why I say he would have done the exact same things.

FYI: I think his staffers are probably employees of his production company so Conan can continue to pay them if he wants to until he gets his Fox show going.
You can disagree with his principled stance but you should at least be able to see it is a principled stance. Do you have no principles? Nothing is sacred to you? One man's junk is another's treasure, as they say.

You root for the Cubs out of principle...not because they are good.

I always liked Dick Ebersol, but he is completely out of touch with the Conan situation.

I was going to include this in my earlier post, but wanted to respond to WCChiCubsFan as quickly as possible.

Last year, Scrubs aired its series finale. It was a touching conclusion to the series that perfectly bookended the show's beginning.
When ABC wanted to resurrect Scrubs, creator/producer Bill Lawrence was hesitant, but decided that he couldn't deny the opportunity for the people who had worked for him all those years to have (y'know) jobs.
The new Scrubs [Med School] resulted in 13 episodes of (I'll be kind) uneven quality that ABC has dumped on the air over the last few weeks, in an effort to get rid of them.
I'm certain Lawrence doesn't regret giving people jobs for a while, but when asked if he thought the new Scrubs [Med School] damaged the legacy of the fondly thought-of (just plain) Scrubs, he says:

"The only thing that bugs me is when people go, 'Oh, you've killed the legacy of Scrubs!' I don't want to belittle the fact that they loved the show enough to think it had a legacy worth protecting. It's just not the way my personal brain works."

All this is just my way of saying that everyone has to decide for themselves if they believe Conan O'Brien when he says that the way his personal brain works is believing The Tonight Show has a legacy worth protecting.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?

Has everybody that's shitting on Fallon's show actually seen it? I've only watched the last few shows (I'm absolutely Team Ferguson, but I have him on DVR in the living room), and while it's still a bit stilted and finding it's way, it's pretty funny.

Having The Roots around is also badass. I like that it already has it's own feel to the show, if they give it time to grow () I could see this absolutely working.

In that interview Ebersol says:
Conan didn't "recognize the importance of making the show appealing first and foremost to cities in the central time zone like Chicago and Des Moines."

Perhaps that explains some of the comments of my friend WCChiCubsFan.

Re: Report: NBC to Cancel LENO?

I haven't watched since he had Paul Simon and Steve Martin on the show. He kept interrupting their conversation, which was pretty interesting, with his lame attempts at humor. It's been a while, though, so maybe he's gotten better.

I do agree though that the Roots kick major ass.

After the bear was frozen in carbonite, Carrie Fisher showed up to rescue it.
The bear escaped 30 Rock, taking down Kenneth the Page in the process.
And the bear was last seen sailing away on a boat with Fisher drinking champagne.

Oh! Thanks for clarifying. I couldn't seem to find what I was looking for on the 'net (I figured that someone out there had made a MB wiki page, but apparently I was wrong).

Holy shit, that's some funny stuff.

Looked a little awkward for Jay, though.

That does not equate with your assertion:
Conan would actively pursue a course of action that he knows would damage others.
Yes it actually does. A person who is unwilling to sacrifice for the sake of others is an individual who thinks of themselves first. An individual who thinks of himself first is the type of person who generally pursues their desires even if they know it will damage others. Sorry but that is simply common sense. Sounds harsh but the there is nothing wrong with that as long as you aren’t breaking laws. After all most successful people have a very self centered drive.

Want to take a wild guess what the WC stands for? I was not born in Chicago and besides some summer vacations never lived in Chicago for any extended period of time.
FYI: I’ve watched Conan since day one when he started on Late Night, continued onto the Tonight Show and will follow him to Fox. Unlike the fan boys who seem to have lost touch with reality I’m able to see the situation rationally.

That is not true.

An unwillingness to hurt yourself, even for the sake of protecting others, IS IN NO WAY indicative of someone's willingness to take actions that would hurt others.

My unwillingness to run into a burning building to save the lives of others does not mean that I am an arsonist.

Water Closet?

I'm surprised that you can profess to be such a fan of Conan's and think so little of him as a person.

I'm sure he's going to make sure his staff is taken care of regardless of his (and possibly their) temporary unemployment. I just can't see him doing anything less.

yes, unlike EVERYONE else, you see it rationally as Conan being an egomaniac control freak. yet you are a fan?

you are a complete loon and are wrong about everything. but in the end your opinion means less than nothing, just like mine, so you got that going for you I guess. must be cozy in that fantasy land of yours where you think you matter.

Well, I am wondering what will happen next week. He dismantled his old set pretty effectively. I wonder if he'll do something similar this time?

(btw, thanks for the sig, brizz)

What are they going to use the Conan set for? I'm assuming Jay's Tonight Show would just utilize the Burbank studio again.
