Cablevision drops Food Network and HGTV as of 1/1/10
As of Jan 1 Cablevision has gotten rid of Food Network and HGTV.
I'm pissed!
They say they can't come to an agreement with Scripps (I guess that is who owns those 2 channels)
Anyone else pissed

Bobby Flay and Michael Symon have been tweeting about this... tonight was the big Chef's battle with Flay, Emeril, Batali and the White House executive chef. Apparently, a lot of people aren't able to watch it.
We had a similar situation with Fox and Time Warner, but my local Fox affiliate is independent, and I don't really watch any of their other channels. So, I wasn't too concerned. That said, I would miss Food Network and HGTV. I don't watch them often, but I want the option to!

I would definitely miss Food Network but HGTV not so much. The only show I watch on HGTV is "Holmes on Homes". I don't know why, but I like that show. But it sucks that they drop Food Network right before the big Iron Chef AMerica "Chef Battle".

I'm pissed off that I lost Food Network, not so much HGTV. If I knew they were having negotation problems with Scripps I would have never went back to Cablevision a month ago. Now I'm stuck because I got the triple play package for a decent price for two years.
I was actually looking forward to the big Chef Battle last night. Scripps and Cablevision are a bunch of scumbags.

Something like this was bound to happen. I hate Cablevision as it is and they are giving me more and more reason(s) to drop them.

Per a New York Times article I just read, Scripps was getting 8 cents per customer for Food Network, they were wanting an increase to 25 cents.
A 17 cent per month increase doesn't sound like much and I personally would be very happy to pay 25 cents per month for the Food Network, but I wouldn't want to pay the following (except for USA and Disney):
Oprah Winfrey's Channel (set to debut in one year): $0.50
ESPN: $4.10
Fox Sports: $2.37
TNT: $0.96
NFL Network: (More than $0.50)
ESPN2: (more than $0.50)
Fox News: (more than $0.50)
USA: (more than $0.50)
Disney Channel: (more than $0.50)
The point is that if every little channel gets a 300% increase the costs will definately be passed on to the consumers. Of course, a la carte programming is the real answer but that appears to be dead.

Even if you don't watch the channels (or even if you do), call and complain/threaten to cancel service and extract some type of deals/credits out of them.

I wish ala carte pricing would be legislated - or let the FCC / congress / whomever allow multiple cable companies to operate in the same market.

I love the Food Network, if I'm up late I like catching Good Eats and Unwrapped. Cablevision just seems to be looking for reasons to push customers away now, especially with their pricing. DirecTV and Dish are both looking like better options minus the fact Dolan won't give up the MSG HD feed to anybody.

Love Food Network, but I only have Cablevision for internet now so I can't really complain.

Did CableVision ever ask their customers what they want? They pay enough for all the sports channels and that of course is more for men! Do I care if they raise it .17 cents? They raise the costs all the time and it is always a few bucks!
Who should I call? Cable and Scripps?
Jeebus! I WANT MY FOOD TV (and also HG!!!)

I noticed that scripps must have run over 10 commercials on fox Sunday night.
I called Cablevision and told them to cancel my subscription (I wanted them to offer me $ off my bill)
Their response - no joke - "ok, let me get that put in for you. How many boxes do you have?"
I told them Verizon / DirectTV were offering a better deal, free DVR etc..
The only thing they came back with was "they make you sign a contract, we don't. And when their contract with Scrippts comes up they will yank the channels from them to - for some reason they decided to pick on Cablevision, and will do the same with other vendors when the time comes."
They would not offer me the triple play promo price again, no discount on boxes, free dvr - NOTHING.
These guys truly don't care about keeping customers. I don't think we will ever see these channels again. Cablevision's idea of negotiation is give it to us or don't give it to us ... we don't value our customers and don't care if they walk.

^^
If you decide to go with Dtv... be sure to get a friends account number and take advantage of the 100$ refer a friend thingy.
Not surprised at their response.. it was the same one Time Warner had 5 yrs ago when we dumped them.
Classless company = Classless customer support reps. Shrug.
