Dexter -- "Hello, Dexter Morgan" -- 12/06/09

Dexter

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Dogged Debra's investigative skills have the department on the verge of not only nailing the Trinity Killer, but ultimately exposing Dexter's clandestine and deadly side job. It would also deprive him of the opportunity to deal with the serial murderer in his own way. At home, Rita's decision to confide in her husband doesn't garner the result for which she hoped. And back in the squad room, a breach of ethics has Batista and LaGuerta in hot water.

My DVR says the episode is called "Wish You Were Here"? Weird.

DirectTV's guide has it listed the same.

Hoping this episode continues the trend of the last few weeks. My free subscription to Showtime ended so I had to bite the bullet and pay for it

I might sound like a broken record, but this was another excellent episode. Going on the little faceoff at the end, I get the feeling that next week's episode is going to be crazy. I genuinely can't wait for next Sunday to come.

Couldn't find a thread for last week's episode, but did anyone else notice that when Trinity got in his van and said "Stupid ****!"... his lips were saying "bitch"? It was also "bitch" in the preview for this episode. Wonder why they changed it. I don't think I've ever seen an obvious dub making the line MORE profane rather than less.

I've learned to start skipping the previews ... they've been giving away too much of the next episode for my taste.

This season has had a great pace to it. When "Dexter" first started I wasn't sure how long they'd be able to milk the concept - but now they have 4 strong seasons.

way to go Showtime promo department

the preview for this episode said that this episode would have the biggest twist of the season yet, and then played the audio of "Hello, Dexter Morgan" and it was quite clear that he was in the Homicide division in the preview.

Been such a great season thus far. There were a few weak episodes close to the beginning of the season but the last half has been really great stuff. Too bad after the finale next week we'll have to wait around until next September before we get a new batch of episodes.

Not sure why people watch previews any more. I avoided them and this episode was a delight from start to finish.

Great episode. Especially the last scene where Dexter looks intimidated both physicallythan Michael C and mentally. It is one of the few times where he isn't in control of a situation. Jennifer Carpenter's acting has been one of the strong points of the season. Minor complaint: the Angel/Laguerta storyline just got more ridiculous. Other than that, it was mostly good and I even sided with Rita.

I accidentally caught about one second of the previews last week, and it was the "woman in the bathtub" shot - I thought that it was the reporter and I was pissed that I saw it, I'm glad that it turned out to be just a quick flash of a photo of a previous victim.

He's fucked!

Im disapointed in the title of the episode, no surprise of Arthur finding Dexter's name.

I thought the promo was advertising the last two episodes of the season. If that's the case, then perhaps we haven't seen the twist yet.

I saw the previews and still thought this ep was a delight. If it's good enough stuff, I tend to forget or overlook things from previews once I get watching an episode. Those final few minutes were INTENSE! Whoa. I really loved Trinity's reaction when he saw all the crime scene photos. So creepy. That looked like a wet dream come true for him, seeing all his handiwork on display like that.

And as sleepyhead55 pointed out, it was interesting to see Dexter put in a position where he looked so weak. Trinity was towering over him at the end, definitely in a position of power. What can happen in a roomful of police officers between them? Is Trinity going to get the pleasure of meeting Deb? Will Trinity and Deb start dating? She does like older men and serial killers.

Oh, since I brought up Deb, I know she gets a lot of hate around here, but I thought Jennifer Carpenter did a great job in that scene where the reporter ended up killing herself. When the reporter confessed, you could see all those conflicting emotions in Deb: a sense of relief but also seething anger. Of course, there was also that part of her battling whether to take her to the station or do something to her right there. Good stuff.

Once again, can't wait for next week!

Agreed. I thought this payoff was amazing and Hall played it brilliantly. He was like a kid in trouble in front of the principal. It was awesome and a great way to end. (As horribly masochistic as it is, I almost would've loved to have seen that been the season ender. )

I have a lot of fundamental problems with the show in general, but the driving force, and the thing that makes the show a must watch for me is the twists and turns they take and the messed up situations they put characters in. I thought it was brilliant when Dexter inserted himself into Arthur's life, and now here we are 5 episodes later and Arthur walks into Dexter's office. I LOVE the dynamic of those guys standing off in a police station. And I especially loved Trinity walking around and looking at their entire investigation.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned that Batista and LaGuarta are married!! Nobody saw that twist coming, although only because nobody cared enough to give the storyline even a moment of thought.

The biggest twist for me was seeing Batista show up in the new Expendables trailer as a villain!
