I don't think he was just the voice, I'm pretty sure he wore a toupee and was Steinbrenner. He was also the guy talking to the NBC executive that went to protest the boats in the orange raft to get Elaine's respect. And the voice of the subway announcer in the TV Guide episode. After watching Curb Your Enthusiasm and getting back into Seinfeld via reruns, it's obvious any time Larry David plays someone on- or off-camera. None ever really sounded like Steinbrenner at the time, but it's easy to pick up now.

Really? That I didn't know. I think he also played a newsstand seller in one of the earlier episodes. He's a versatile guy.

I liked Seth in the Kenny Rogers Roasters....
It's sort of a big meeting... Also the pimp in The Maid episode.... You Steinfeld? You know how to use a mop ringer? |

 Love that shot. Technically, Larry D. wasn't a one-shot deal, since he was the voice of George Steinbrenner in numerous episodes.

Larry David was not Steinbrenner on screen(except for one episode, IIRC), that was actor Lee Bear according to Wiki. He was also the voice of Newman off screen the first time Newman appears to commit suicide. He was also an asshole passenger on a flight with Elaine.

Once you've seen them a million times, it's great to pick out his appearances, same with spotting extra Norman Brenner, who was in 14 episodes according to IMDB, and got a quick speaking part as "Ian" (Een) in the Wig Master episode, probably as a reward as the show wound down. |
Re: Your favorite ONE-SHOT "Seinfeld" guest star
Keith Hernandez. Probably my favorite episode.
|
Re: Your favorite ONE-SHOT "Seinfeld" guest star
Another that should be added is James Hong in The Chinese Restaraunt...
"Cartwright!...Cartwright!" |
Re: Your favorite ONE-SHOT "Seinfeld" guest star
Mr. Marbles
But seriously, Philip Baker Hall as Bookman. Even Seinfeld can't keep from cracking up. Never happened in any other episode. Larry David was also the guy in the silver suit ranting at the UFO or whatever in that late-night TV movie that Jerry couldn't remember. |

It's not funny, no. However Larry David's weird space outfit he wore when he said that was. He looked really stupid in it.

No mention of Elaine's boyfriend Brett aka Desperado guy? That's very un-Carl Farbman like guys ;)

Re: Your favorite ONE-SHOT "Seinfeld" guest star
Did anyone say Judge Reinhold? The Close Talker! He just plays a nice guy who was dating Elaine, and enjoyed hanging out Jerry's Parents all the time!
|
Re: Your favorite ONE-SHOT "Seinfeld" guest star
I'm between Peter Stormare as Slippery Pete in "The Frogger" and James Spader in "The Apology."
George: We need to find an outlet! Slippery Pete: What? George: Holes! I need holes! |

I think Judge is one of the better examples, I also like the one with Jane Leeves (Daphne Moon), The Virgin. |

How about the Mohel?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Sein_ep505.jpg The episode also featured a one-shot by a largely unseen character.....Pigman. |
Re: Your favorite ONE-SHOT "Seinfeld" guest star

I understand that, but given the example of Michael Chikilis in the first post I took it to mean people that are, or eventually became somewhat famous since being on Seinfeld otherwise it's merely a favorite character discussion.
I guess Buttmunker is the only one that can clear this up. |
Re: Your favorite ONE-SHOT "Seinfeld" guest star
I just watched The Doorman the other day, so I'm glad to see this thread was bumped. While I love Larry David as Frank Costanza's Lawyer for the sheer bizarreness of a caped lawyer , Larry Miller is easily the best one-shot guest star. That's definitely one of my favorite episodes. Although Philip Baker Hall as Bookman is up there too. I don't know how he said that whole monologue in Jerry's apartment without laughing.

It doesn't matter if the ONE-SHOT is a famous actor, or merely some guy who never acted before. Doesn't matter if they're billed as a "guest star" or a "special guest star" (although, on Seinfeld, if they're truly famous, their name appears much larger during the end credits than the other actors on the show.
But I like recognizable character actors in general, and Seinfeld made great use of them over the years. How about Jon Polito as Silvio, the building superintendent whose wife was cheating on him with Newman? |

Being a friend, I'm surprised they only gave Miller a one-shot deal on the show. You'd think better friends would cast you in a recurring role (ala Newman). |
Re: Your favorite ONE-SHOT "Seinfeld" guest star
I agree with the person who chose "No Doubt".

I was reading the thread from the beginning assuming it was a new thread and was thinking people were being awfully liberal with the term "star." Two years later and it still reads like a favorite character discussion. :)
