Re: NBC's 2009-2010 Fall Schedule - New/Returning Shows
CBS also has bought Medium, which had been airing on NBC. Here's what happened: I've just learned that NBC did pickup Medium last Friday, but only for 13 episodes. But Endeavor Talent Agency which packages the show wanted 16 episodes (and Patricia Arquette's contract called for 22 episodes). A difficult negotiation ensued, and now CBS has swooped in and snagged Medium, which is produced by CBS Paramount TV, to air it with Ghost Whisperer. NBC is now spinning that Medium is best suited for the CBS demo than for the NBC audience, and that it rated lower than 2 shows CBS cancelled – Eleventh Hour and Without A Trace.

Re: NBC's 2009-2010 Fall Schedule - New/Returning Shows
I'm glad to see Law & Order come back. I liked Dennis Farina and Jesse Martin, then Farina left. Then Martin left. I didn't know what to expect with Anthony Anderson and Jeremy Sisto (since he was so good at being a creep on Six Feet Under), but I like them. I still see the A.D.A. as Marisol Delko Caine, though.
I'm a little surprised MNIE lasted this long. I haven't watched it in some time, there can only be so many things on Earl's list. Plus, some shows had to go with Leno's new 10pm show- which they could have easily made a 2-3 nights per week thing, allowing them to keep a few hour long dramas at ten.
I don't think nights and times are as important as they once were, because more and more people are watching from DVR/Tivos.

We finally learned that Dodge is Earl's natural son through the DNA testing that Earl wanted to have done. But the cliffhanger was...
Spoiler:
Edited to add a spoiler tag because evidently, despite the fact that few people care on this board about Earl since there has not been an episode discussion thread in weeks, the above is considered a spoiler.

Las Vegas ended on a cliffhanger last season, even though it was one of the few shows they were able to air during the strike. NBC doesnt give a fuck.

Isn't it a pretty open secret that none of them do? If they could get more bang for the buck showing white noise, they'd do it.

I just like to give people a heads up so they can correct it before somebody nuts up about it. I'm pretty blatantly on record as being unconcerned about spoilers, but I do like to keep things from blowing up around here if possible. You might be right. It might be nobody cares.

People have been complaining about Earl being stale and judging by the lack of discussion about Earl coupled with the fact that far, far fewer people wanted to save it as bad as Chuck; I felt the spoiler tag was useless at this point.
However, I did add it to my post just in case.

Re: NBC's 2009-2010 Fall Schedule - New/Returning Shows
Law and Order pushed to Fridays - can't say I'm stunned, but this has been a staple franchise for how long? I find it amusing that fat people losing weight takes 120minutes in the fall, but only 90min in the winter. My guess is that it goes to 120min when 100 questions flops (unless another SNL cast member needs work and NBC creates another comedy).
And unfortunately Leno will get lower ratings but NBC will win money-wise and I would not be surprised to see the rest of the networks follow suit (or simply not do anything and let the locals push the news up 1 hour). Perhaps if TV stars weren't so overpaid, there would be more original programming. I wonder what happens when reality sets in and there is very little work available, whether contract demands and production costs will come down to more reasonable levels, or if it will just lead to the rich getting richer (when they have a hit show) and the poor getting poorer (as they get pushed out by reality TV).
Network TV is following down the road of newspapers... there is more competition (cable, internet), ad dollars are drying up, and their cost structure is out of control. And much like the newspapers cutting costs is only going to prolong the death spiral and it will be too late when they realize their current business model is fundamentally flawed.

I heard that Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey are both filming movies this summer. Hence, could that be the reason why 30 Rock is getting off to a later start?

Ouch...
Of course Knight Rider is a new show, in an old franchise that fans sent letters to NBC, and Ford, so not like that always matters. I wonder if KR would have a chance on USA or Sci-Fi.
If it wasn't for Chuck, and the occasional watch of Office and 30 Rock, I would just abandon NBC.
The dismissal of "Earl" and "Medium," accompanied by Silverman's comments that each of them was "an aging franchise, without a single fan letter, with no passion," didn't sit well with the producers of both series.
CBS Studios, which is behind "Medium," came out with a sternly worded statement.
"NBC's cancellation of 'Medium' is inexplicable to us," the statement said. "The ratings don't lie: 'Medium' outperforms many of NBC's renewed shows ... We believe the show has a significant future and await developments."
Those developments are said to involve a pickup by sister network CBS.
Meanwhile, "Earl" creator Greg Garcia didn't spare harsh words for NBC either, telling the Los Angeles Times: "It's hard to be too upset about being thrown off the Titanic."
"Earl" producer 20th TV is in talks with Fox and ABC about a potential pickup for the 4-year-old series.

They wanted fan letters for Earl? Why? It never seemed like it would be on the bubble, not to mention it's not that type of show that has cult fans.

Bummed about Earl. I thought it was pretty good this season.
In for Chuck and 30 Rock and MAYBE Heroes. Not really thrilled with how they're approaching the schedule, though.
Also, FUCK Jay Leno. He's the Brett Favre of TV now. Just retire already.

It's a record with an asterisk though. Gunsmoke piled up 635 episodes. L&O isn't anywhere near that.
L&O was on Friday (at 10 p.m.) a few seasons ago.

Re: NBC's 2009-2010 Fall Schedule - New/Returning Shows
Earl was one of the 3 network comedy shows I like. The others being 30 rock and the Office.
It would be cool if it was picked up by another network but we did get 4 lengthy season worth of impressive episodes so it had a good run nonetheless.

I liked Earl, and was one of the few shows that I looked forward to watching each week.
I hope Fox picks it up. I thought the writing was good, the charachters were interesting, and as we would get introduced to new members of the town every week or so - with lots of long running gags.
sad to see it go.

Is CBS the greenest network of all? After NBC dumped Medium in the trash yesterday, CBS plucked it out of cancellation oblivion to recycle/reuse it in a new way. Medium will be joining Ghost Whisperer on Friday nights over on the Tiffany network. And thank god, too. A world without the DuBois family is a world we don't really want to live in. Thanks to the CBS network peeps for making this happen
