Let me get this straight - Desmond sailed from the UK to Los Angeles? In what, two weeks? I really doubt Penny was anywhere near America during the time Desmond was there.

I don't remember why, but I remember thinking they had sailed there. There was something about the dialogue that indicated that, because I remember thinking how stupid it was.

And I really think this "the island is always moving" thing wasn't a good idea to introduce. Because it makes things unneccesarily complicated.

Penny mentioned that she was coming with Desmond.

I still don't believe they came there by boat, however!

Absolutely I think they are probably together, but they didn't sail there.

It could be done, theoretically.

However, I don't think it is the case here. And because I have a poor memory, maybe somebody could help me out. Didn't the O6 meet Ben for the first time together at the docks? Or am I confused?

I don't recall the SD feed ever being in WS.

Have you seen the HD version on abc.com. Pretty nice picture. That's how we usually watch it (day after - Weds. nights are busy for us.)

They never said what Desmond's timeline was did they? I think he could have stormed into Charles Widmore's office a few months before he got to LA.

Locke never turned the wheel. he popped it back on axis and then the time flashed

I thought it was mentioned he hung himself or was found hanged.

also i wonder about the woman with sayid on then plane, she looked especially nervous to me.

Spoiler:
The producer's have said... "He’ll play Caesar, a mystery man who...um...well, that’s all we got. But the producers say the actor’s skill set fits the part. “He has an innate intelligence, intensity, and danger we really responded to,” says Lindelof, who declined to specify whether Caesar is good or bad. However, Cuse teases that the character will be playing “an important part of the setup for the final act of the show in season 6."

Hence my question above yours.

Why would time have needed to progress for Jin, Sawyer, and Co.? They could have been there for hours or days for all we know. Just because the well wasn't established when we last saw them doesn't mean that Dharma wasn't already on the island.

Also, when Jack was putting Locke's shoes on his leg didn't appear to be broken any longer. I wonder, regardless of the break, if was paralyzed when he returned to real world.

Anybody recall that Pete said he was originally meant to be on the Oceanic flight instead of the other pilot?

You mean Frank?

The other pilot was Parkman.

Was "Parkman" the pilot in question with the ring issue, or was that another one of the pilots?

That's Greg Grunberg from Heroes. He played "Captain Seth Norris". I hope Frank has better luck than him upon crashing.

I prefer to think of him as Greg Grunberg from Felicity. I knew that's who we were speaking of. My question is whether the guy with the wrong ring situation in the cockpit was Grunberg's (short lived) LOST character or a different member of the flight crew. I don't think they were ever that specific, were they?

His character had the ring on when the plane crashed. The fake oceanic plane's dead pilot lacked the ring. It was supposed to be Grunberg's character though.

Locke grabbed the wheel which got it back onto its axis then he pulled it toward himself. As the flash occurred, Christian said, 'say hello to my son,' to which he replied, 'who's your son?' And he was gone.

BTW, did anyone else think a polar bear was gonna come around that corner instead of Christian? I wonder if we'll ever see the bear work the wheel. :D

Why is it 3 years? I assume, possibly incorrectly, that Locke jumps to when Jack & Co. were - 3 years in the future.

Also, I noticed there was some C.S. Lewis talk, but it was spoilerized so I didn't click on it. My observation was (based on observations last week on names):

Charlotte = C.S. Lewis = Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe = Lampost = Dharma Church Station (Lampost)

Anyway, that was the first thing that came to my mind when she mentioned the name.

Yes. One of a number of "huh?" moments in this episode. I cannot believe Jack didn't say something like "what happened to you?" Of course, he also doesn't seem to care if Kate drowned his nephew in the river before hopping into his bed, so it looks like no one is thinking clearly these days.

Why would you say she did that?

My assumption was that somebody took him away or she gave him to his grandmother. Either way, Kate has been psycho over this whole Aaron issue feeling like he's hers.

Why not?

A friend of a friend of mine bought a 45' yacht in Alaska and sailed it home to New Zealand. It took him about six weeks.

These yachts can easily do 10 knots and, if you're sailing round the clock, that's about 250 nautical miles per day. I guesstimate that a trip from UK to LA (via Panama) would be about 5000 nautical miles so at 10 knots this would take about 3 weeks.

Because she was acting like whatever she did was horrible and seemed to be in a fragile state. I would be concerned enough in that situation to demand to know what she had done to my nephew, and not immediately jumped in the sack with her.

And I always start with worst-case scenario and work my way back, so I'd want to know for sure what she had done.

We know that Ben landed 10 months ahead when he moved the island. That was probably timed to deal with Sayid. I'm guessing Locke will land whenever he is needed to land to do what needs to be done. Since he has to move around the world a bit from Tunisia to L.A. to New York, Etc... then he has to get his leg fixed and have some healing time. The island is not going to send him there 3 years ahead so he is rushing around on a broken leg. I'm wondering how he gets out of Tunisia without a passport or I.D. Maybe Ben comes there to help him. Hopefully the next episode starts with Locke landing in the desert.

We've seen it happen to Ben, and there was the polar bear skeleton with the Dharma logo found there...

Tunisia was the end point of the jump when the island was at its previous position. And I think it's safe to assume that the jump is to the antipodal point of the island location. So, depending on where the island is currently located, the current antipodal point of the island is probably not in Tunisia.

pinata242 02-20-09 11:43 AM

Re: Lost -- "316" -- 2/18/09

What's Bespin's antipode?

I think the antipodal explanation worked just fine when it was simply "South Pacific -> Tunisia", but that's just what the internet used to justify it, right? That was never confirmed in the show.

I think that point in Tunisia is the exit as, if the island was previously constantly moving, you can't guarantee the antipode at that time isn't in the middle of the ocean or inside a mountain. That would end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?

In fact, for 2 different travelers (Polar Bear & Ben) to arrive at the same spot after different moves of the wheel, the destination would have to be constant because, by definition, the island's longitude/latitude wasn't.

I agree. I believe the off-island destination remains constant, and that whatever process is involved once the wheel is turned, it then spits you out in Tunisia.
