I would have been upset, but the guy I was watching with blurted out the same thing during that scene. I glared at him, he looked at me and asked, "Oh. Didn't you see that movie?"

The thing is, it's a movie that I probably would have seen at some point. Now, I have no desire whatsoever to see it. Perhaps it wasn't very good and he saved me time. Whatever.

As far as this episode goes, I'd put it toward the top of the season in terms of quality. A few things that irked me. One isn't a big deal: At the beginning of the episode, when they showed Ben, Sun, Jack, and Desmond entering the Dharma Lamp Post, the scene seemed slightly different from the one that aired last week at the end of the episode. I was pretty sure that Ben said, "Hello, Eloise", upon entering, but that didn't happen this time-- and we were seeing the same scene, but from different angles. I was only looking for it because I like seeing attention to such detail.

They better explain why Sayid was on that flight. This has already been mentioned in this thread.

I'm really psyched for next week's episode! Wish I could freeze myself until next Wednesday!

1. Previous season Ben promised Widmore that he'd kill his daughter (Penny).

2. When leaving Jack this episode, Ben said he had to take care of a promise he made to an old friend or something like that. He likely needed to do it now since he either doesn't plan on ever leaving the island again or knows he will never leave it again.

3. As was mentioned in this thread, Ben was seen at the docks where it's likely Desmond and Penny have their boat.

Ben's wisecrack, "My mother taught me," was funny on another level, considering we all know that wasn't the case.

I really think Ben killed both Desmond and Penny, or if he just killed Penny, then Desmond will end up back on the island looking for vengeance.

Best episode of the season thus far, hands down... and frankly, this was one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. I can't wait to watch it again this weekend!

It was breathtaking and left me with lots of great questions. And the writing in particular was so spot on that It was very reassuring for me as to the fate of the rest of this series. The last two episodes weren't as interesting and fell flat in a big way IMHO but this episode brought in the first perfect 'A' for this season. The first three episodes were also excellent but this was the one that really seemed to get everything in motion in a way I truly loved. Plus, the characters and events -- it was all so well orchestrated.

I'm giddy right now. Can you tell? :)

I noticed Locke had beard stubble when Jack opened the coffin, but he didn't in the S4 finale. Snopes says a dead person's skin can retract, making hair appear to grow. Still, can't help but wonder if the writers wanted us to notice that.

Desmond and Penny have a boat in Europe. We're to assume they came by boat to LA?! Or that they rented a boat in LA? Or that they like being around boats all the time? :)

They havn't stopped using the boat it seems since they found each other. It's probably the best way to stay away from Mr. Widmore himself.

I have to agree that as much as I hate to think they would kill Penny off, it really is the only way to get Desmond back to the island. I wonder what happened to their kid Charlie!

Damn, for some reason the schedule on my DVR was messed up, and it didn't record tonight's episode... I think because the show in the Lost timeslot was called "To Be Announced"... so it didn't record it. Yay for iTunes HD! :) Or ABC's website if I'm feeling cheap.

i still am confused why Eloise told Jack they had to try and re-create the original plane crash if she said there was already a window open for 36 hrs for them to get back to the island.

I totally agree. This was a tremendous episode for me too. The music, the dialogue, the performances and the mystery. Exciting and building all the time with real emotional resonance behind it. I loved it. It was so great seeing Frank on board too. That was a terrific touch.

It's probably not the best way to get from England to the west coast of the United States, though. Somehow, I don't think Desmond was relaxed enough to make a 2+ week trip to find who he was looking for.

He was also supposed to be the pilot of 815 but then backed out if I remember correctly. When he saw the underwater footage, he recognized that it wasn't the pilot that took his place because of the ring on his finger.

They were obviously setting up the next generation of "flashbacks". We have to see how Locke killed himself, what Kate did with Aaron, what Sun did with her kid, who told Hurley and why he has the violin, what happened with Sayid, and when Jack had time to get a new tattoo that night.

My question is why Hurley bought 71 tickets but coach class seemed to be full?

I agree. I think we were made to think he went after Penny, but he probably was working on getting the other O6 on the flight.

We already know that Ben can open a can of whoop ass when he needs. I doubt Desmond could do that type of damage to him. But Sayid, on the other hand...

The whole plane thing was just odd.

They didn't sit next to each other or anything like that. Kate and Jack spent the night together the night before, but then on the plane they were not really talking. Hurley who they are all friends with they were not talking to.

Lapidus sees all them and just keeps on flying the plane instead of just turning it around and saying F this.

Even just the whole taking a plane back to the island is just wierd.

And in the beginning when they are getting the info on the island, etc. They didn't ask any questions. If I was one of them I would have been asking a hell of a lot more questions. These characters are just stupid because they NEVER ask questions. And that frustrates me as a viewer because they just don't seem to be acting as a normal person would.

Actually, maybe they did. If, like Palaver theorized, flight 815 had people trying to get back to the island, then maybe that flight attendant was one of them. If I remember correctly, she seemed to fall in with the Others pretty quickly.

I don't know about anyone else, but how "normal" would you feel anymore after going through everything these characters have gone through so far in LOST and not to mention before that. For example. Hurley sees and gets advice from dead people he knows(not normal), not to mention he is lottery winning millionare. Kate is an ex-con who blew up her father. Sayid is a special forces interrogator for the Iraqi army. Can't say I know anyone like that in my life :)

Well in regards to Sun's kid I would say that is pretty obvious at least. Her kid is still with Sun's mother(grandma) back home. So she basically left her child and hopes that if Jin is still alive they can get back off the island and be a family again.

Yeah but something obviously happened with her that night. She left the church the night before seemingly upset but then the next day on the plane she seemed to be the happiest among them to be there.

Since the Island is apparently directly in the flight path from LA to Guam and no planes have disappeared, there must be something extra needed.

I would say she was upset in that perhaps all this time she believed Jin to be dead when he was not and the whole night itself was pretty intense. She did have a gun and was going to put one in Ben's head at more than one moment. But with time to reflect and cool off she is now giddy as a school girl at the thought that he is alive and she is going to get to see him again.

Just throwing another thought out there:

Hawking mentioned that the island always moves around, making it hard to find. What if Dharma had figured out a way to keep it from moving? What if the Swan Station was designed to keep the island from moving? The electro-magnetic energy is what fuels the moves. The Swan Station was releasing the energy in slow incremental amounts, preventing it from moving.

That would explain why Ben tried to trick Locke into not punching in the numbers. However, when Desmond did the fail safe, that messed up the island's "natural" ability to build up the energy and move. It took Ben turning the donkey wheel to get things "moving" again.

When Desmond forgot to put the numbers in, the island was getting ready to move while Ocean 815 was flying over, tearing the plane up.
