Good point...kind of goes back to my question about what you'd do with winnings. If a person wins $400 next week, but is going to be on vacation or something the following week, it'd be kind of a bitch for them to lose that $400 by not betting it because they couldn't play.

But I have no solution. :p

Was this shown in the previews last week? Just curious, since I don't watch them and this was a pretty big part of the episode.

How about if you have to bet at least the amount of the free cash each week to earn that free cash?

Your winnings could be in a separate pot that you have the option of betting with each week.

That way if you don't bet one week, you keep your winnings, but no free cash for you.

The minimum bet limit would also prevent you from just betting one dollar each week and hoarding your free cash.

The Bus 02-23-09 11:14 AM

Re: TV Talk's The LOST Game

Alright, how about this:

If you don't play, you don't get that week's "free" cash. Your winnings remain frozen.

If you play, you have to bet, at the very least, that week's free cash.

Remember, I will be adjusting the free cash amount each week depending on the total amount everyone has. If we eventually have a few players with thousands in the bank, expect the free cash to be higher than it is right now.

Please PM ideas for questions. I'd like to have them up in the next 24 hours for Round 2.

{Number} Prediction (Odds)

Previous, but active predictions (you cannot bet on these):
Spoiler:
{001} A foreign language is spoken. (2:1)
{002} A gun or firearm is fired. (3:1)
{003} The "Lost Numbers" (the whole sequence) are mentioned or used, directly or indirectly. (7:1)

{005} Jack uses his medical skills to help someone. (8:1)
{006} Walt appears. (13:1)
{008} Penelope Whidmore dies. (50:1)
{010} All of the Oceanic Six make it back to the island. (7:1)

This week's predictions for Episode 90 ("The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham") and onward:

{011} A Dharma logo is never shown during the episode. (5:1)
{012} Someone other than Sawyer is shown shirtless. (4:1)
{013} The smoke monster appears. (7:1)

I'm confused. I thought our money was on hold if we didn't win any bets (i.e. most of us last week). I thought we were then stuck not being able to bet until we freed up money so to speak. We're getting new money each week regardless of the previous week?

Edit: However, if our previous bets are continually active this could make for some fun right down to the last epsiode depending on how events play out. Somebody could potentially have all of their open active bets come through in the finale.

Wait--so our previous bets are active? I don't understand. If I lost all my money on a previous bet, but then that bet happens, do I win some back? I think you need to clarify what it means to have previous bets active. I thought the circumstances changed weekly and all you could carry over was your won money. That would make more sense.

Re: TV Talk's The LOST Game

A wager can only come true.

If you bet on $4 on {006} Walt appears. (13:1) last week, then that bet is active until it happens or the show runs out, whichever comes first. You can't add to or remove from those wagers after the week they were offered.

So if you think Penny is going to die as in prediction {008}, but you didn't bet last week on it because you thought she was safe that week, you're SOL on it. Unless, of course, another prediction deals with the same thing in the future.

No, I understood not getting it back until true. For example: week 1 $24 {006}(3:1). I assumed somebody would not have money to bet again until they had a payout from that bet. Once it did they would have $24*3 = $72 to bet.

Man! I wish this would have been more clear last week. Seriously, of course most of those predictions will come true "sooner or later," which makes them all good bets...

The Bus 02-24-09 10:45 AM

Re: TV Talk's The LOST Game

I explained it several times. Sorry if I wasn't more clear. :o I'll try again:

How the Betting Works

Any bets you make remain for the remainder of the series until they come true. When they come true, that money is paid out. If they never come true, you never get that money. Let's say this is a bet:

{00X} Jack eats a sandwich. (9:1)

You make your bet and place $10 on it. In the next episode, Jack doesn't eat a sandwich. Your bet is still active but you don't get any money. If in Season 6, Episode 2, he eats a sandwich, then you get $90.

The way the bets are done is that most of them will come true. At some point, Walt shows up. At some point, the smoke monster will be shown again. But when?

The point is that you want to guess something that will happen and happen soon. It's about smart re-investment of your winnings. In the example above, someone may have turned that $10 into $200 by the beginning of Season 6 due to better bets.

He died and apparently the Island brought him back to life.

How is that a ruse?

It was a ruse to us, the viewers. I will try to be more clear in the future. Since I didn't vote this round, I obviously don't have a horse in this (week's) race.
