11.28M viewers this week. Numbers were down a little compared to previous weeks probably because of the expanded competition.

Good episode last night, wonder where it's going now that the C.I.P. Device was destroyed, thought they brought the guy who built it back to make another one, or to make something else.

It's so fucking stupid. Man, what I wouldn't give for a season without hacking, super powerful sattelite surveillance and every single computer in america connected.

Re: Twenty Four (24) -- "2:00pm to 3:00pm" -- 2/2/09

I hope the writers quickly turn this season around, because it's heading straight for a battle with season 6 as worst season ever. I agree with Dave Barry's observation that the CIP device is beyond absurd, even for 24 standards. But the killer moment of stupid plotting was the revelation that Dubaku has a girlfriend -- a waitress from a coffee shop he frequents. Give me a break! This is like something straight out of a Seinfeld episode!! "Uh-oh. Relationship Dubaku is getting too close to the world of Terrorist Dubako. If these world's collide, it will be the end of Terrorist Dubako. The end, Jerry!"

Supposedly the long break after season 6 would have allowed the writers enough time to put together a quality storyline for this season, but sadly they seem to have squandered the opportunity. Huge disappointment for me, so far.

"We can't do...because that would mean..."
"I'm not going to...because that would result in..."

What made David Palmer, Logan, and Daniels so fun to watch is that you had no idea what those SOBs were thinking from one episode to the next...they'd always surprise us.
I have to agree with you about Cherry Jones. The way she recites her lines is so bland, it definitely sounds more like memorization than acting.

Disagree with moonraker. We're now 7 episodes in this season and I am thoroughly entertained more than I was at this point in season 6. The action sequences have been amazing thus far. The plotting of this season is so much better.

I know there are TV viewers who love to nit-pick and analyze all the technical jargon and plot devices for plausibility. I say put the manuals and dictionary's away and roll with it. This is 24, not Law and Order or NYPD Blue. If it's still going to bother you, then I think you should move on to another show.

episode was weird for me... the music was off also imo

the best part was that damn gunfight...that surround sound was the shit; bill, jack, tony, and chuckie was smashing them fools

chloe was awesome (the brains of the outfit)

EE-kay Duhbokoo catching a metro blending in as an american with a kelly goff looking girlfriend was some straight bullshit... i always get a laugh though when on 24 someone knocks on your door and you grab a pistol and approach your door slowly :lol

i never thought i'd miss CTU...the FBI sucks bad

Yeah, I think moonraker is in the minority. This season has been great so far. The only thing that can rival season 6, is season 4.

Last night's was intense. As for the Everybody Loves Dubaku sideplot, I'm sure terrorists love to get a hot little piece every once in a while as well. What's the point of having all that power if you can't get some from time to time? However Dubaku getting away was quite a disappointment.

I think so too. She's coming off as very nervous which works for the character. I loved when she shoved Billy Walsh away from her.

I have to agree with you. I don't think this is terrible, it's certainly better than last season, but I have just lost all interest in this show. I want to shut every episode off about halfway through, but I force myself to watch the rest.

I was a huge fan of this show. I blew through all 6 seasons in 1 month about a year and a half ago and I couldn't get enough of it (except for seasons 4 and 6). I don't know what it is.

I thought episode 3 was great, but that was it. It looks like I'm in the minority here, oh well.

I'd rank my favorite seasons like this:

1
5
2
3
first four of 6
4
7 so far
rest of 6

It's worth noting again that this "long break" you guys are referring to doesn't exist...yet. As pointed out, these first 8 episodes were filmed before the strike & the year and a half break.

I haven't seen an episode of 24 prior to this season since the end of the fifth season so I can't compare it to season 6, but I'm really liking this season so far.

Maybe it's the whole super-bad ass-team of Jack/Tony/Bill/Chloe and Renee, I dunno. Other than the horrible new president, pretty much everything else is clicking right now.

I'm not convinced the CIP Device is destroyed. If you recall, Tony was the one to announce it was destroyed and they didn't show anyone else even near it. Then we got a couple awkward scenes with Tony, who clearly has something else up his sleeve.

Overall, I liked this episode, though I'm getting a bit tired of some of the weaker dialogue--especially when they have someone spell out what the audience already knows, ie Chloe: "Hurry Jack! We've only got 10 minutes before a deadly gas is released. You've got to rescue them in time."

I believe they showed the cip device damaged. it looked damaged. tony probably won't turn himself in. and he shouldn't. jack wouldn't have turned himself in either if it were not to save those children in redemption. he was ready to run again until the embassy commander wanted him to turn himself him in order to let those kids in. so jack is in no place to say anything.

I wasn't aware of this, so thanks for pointing this out Michael. But still, I remain dissapointed with this season so far.

After season 6, it seemed to me that the "formula" had become a bit stale. [Aside: I've watched every episode of every season since the very beginning, so for someone new to the show I can understand how they might think Season 7 is exciting so far.]

I was excited when I heard (on this forum) that the creative forces behind the show were going to "shake things up" and break away from the old formula. Toward this goal, it was reported that CTU would be removed from the show. Great! No more petty jealousy/backstabbing/bickering among employees trying to step over each other while climbing the corporate ladder. No more ridiculous moles within the organization every week. No more silly office romance issues getting in the way every week.

So what did we get? CTU has been replaced with the FBI, but its still CTU! No difference. Same employee cat-fights, same moles(!), same overall feeling. There's even "FBI Chloe" -- almost literally! Other than the letters F.B.I. appearing everywhere instead of the letters C.T.U., it's still the same. So much for the "big format changes" I was led to believe were coming this season.

But the worst issue for me, so far, is how Dubaku just walks around in open daylight, rides the train, rents an apartment, and has a waitress girlfriend he met in a coffee shop that he hangs out in. Is this the same guy who is currently carrying out terrorist activities, calling the President and making threats once an hour, and is probably number one on the most wanted list of every law enforcement organization in the nation? Give me a break! And you know that there is going to be a "Dubaku's girlfriend in danger" subplot coming. I wasn't exaggerating about the Seinfeld reference: having the plot include Dubaku's plight of trying to carry out a major terrorist attack while keeping his girlfriend in the dark is like something George Costanza would do (but replace "carrying out a terrorst attack" with "participating in a fantasy football league that his nosy girlfriend doesn't approve of"). It's literally on that level, in my opinion, to include such a subplot here -- it's comical.

Oh well, I'm glad most of you seem to be really enjoying this season so far. I just wish I could say the same.

Hopefully I never have to hear the term "CIP Device" ever again on this show. It's just really starting to bother me how often that say it.

Yeah, there was an article in this weeks TV guide about it. They just picked the name because it sounded cool.

Plus they won't get any complaints from angry Amish viewers.
