20 episodes looks like a pretty big order and seems like Sci Fi likes what they've seen so far.

From what I have read, all this is is a Soap Opera based on Caprica.

Yes, I have seen every episode. For the most part seasons 1-3 were excellent but the first 1/2 of season 4 has been crap and that's probably due to the fact they are rushing to try and end this series. They could have easily done 2-3 more seasons before finding earth....it didn't need to end now.

Did you watch the first 3 seasons??

As popular as the 'gates are, they don't get critical acclaim or put words like "frak" into the popular lexicon. As crappy as the ratings for BSG are, it brought a lot of good press for SciFi.

The point about the spaceships is a valid one: there are just too many people that see rocketships or aliens or robots and change the channel. What SciFi hopes with Caprica is that it will attract people interested in the storylines about ethics and civil rights and also keep the BSG fans hoping to see the backstory of the Adama's and the Cylons.

I'm excited for this, though I'd still love to see the Cylon War with Young Adama portrayed by the guy in Razor.

Bill Adama is supposed to be a boy in Caprica.

Saw the pilot. A whole hell of a lot better than I expected. And it's not a soap - it's very much a sci-fi show.
And one of the main characters is Ann Veal #1

Re: Sci-Fi greenlights Caprica to series for 2010

"We want people to come to this who have never heard of 'Battlestar Galactica,' "
Translation: "We want to capitalize on the one show that has been sucessuful for us in the last 5 years and make it cheaper by doing away with special effects."

"I think, because ('Galactica's') backdrop was space and spaceships, there was a barrier to entry for some viewers."
Translation: "We couldn't get people who mistakenly flipped to the SCI-FI channel while looking for Lifetime to stay."

"'Caprica' has none of that."
Translation: "It will suck slightly less than slamming your head in a car door for an hour."

"It's an intense family drama set on an Earthlike planet, in the near future, speaking to a lot of the ethical dilemmas that we as a human race are going to have to face very shortly."
Translation: "I secretly want a job at Lifetime and this is my ticket in."

That about sum it up?

That's a pretty reasonable translation. Mine might have sounded a bit harsher but I enjoyed reading yours for its comic effect.

I'm debating whether or not to blind buy this DVD next week or rent it off Netflix.

rent it, or wait until it airs... because if you like it, it'll likely be a part of the Caprica S1 set, just like the BSG miniseries was.

Yeah, especially with what happened with Razor (released separately and then on the season 4.0 set) makes renting this a better idea.

I watched this last night and was pleasantly surprised at the copious amounts of boobage shown. It was a little unnerving later when you found out that they were all probably 12 though. CURSE YOU HOLO-TECHNOLOGY!!!

Wasn't bad at all, I liked seeing CSM getting his throat slashed open. Trixie from Deadwood is in it too.
