I figure it's because he took Peter's powers. But more importantly, Pa said he was waiting for Sylar; so once Sylar showed up, it seems he didn't care about keeping Peter around.

Look, season one is held on a pedestal for a reason. Characters had lives, people died, there was suspense and tension and consequences to characters actions. It made for riveting television. Of those five things I just listed they are 0 for 5 this season.
Oh, and telling me I should bail,
Thanks, but who are you? I'm not going anywhere, I've really enjoyed the past few episodes, my point is that when you see Parkman hit the floor from a death blow, you know right away he doesn't die. There is no emotional attachment or even suspense when the writers do that. Sylar sends powerless Peter flying out a seven story window? You know he's going to walk away.
...
So far the body count this year is Parkman's dad, Jessie, Vortex Man, Adam and some random chick to feed Sylar. All characters with 1-2 episodes of screen time, if that. Adam was a decent blow, but they seriously need to raise the stakes.

Also, the minute Parkman Jr. said that it was an ability his dad had, I thought for sure they gave themselves an out to have Parkman Sr. still be alive. They were even killed in much the same way, both times with me screaming at the TV "why the heck are you standing so close to a guy that can kill you???"
Huh? I'm not sure what you mean. Parkman's mental powers have been growing since dealing with his dad last season(?) So this is nothing new. I forget who told him that he could do more than just read minds.
What was the point of using Linderman to talk to the speedster if they were going to reveal Pa Patrelli as the mastermind anyway? Besides to fool the audience, of course. And if Daddy Parkman is really dead, then is that whole "Linderman influences Nathan" thing over?
So why not use Linderman to jerk his emotions and mind around? As far as Linderman, Parkmans Sr., and Nathan... since Nathan now knows about Pa being alive and since it seems he's headed for him, there's probably not going to be anymore Linderman/Nathan mind screwing. But it is Heroes so anything is possible....

Not to go OT, but you are incorrect. All 13 ordered episodes were aired. NBC put it in a tough slot and failed to properly promote the show. With the rating-dropping Heroes as its lead-in, it really didn't stand a chance. The existing 13 episodes do somewhat end up being self-contained enough to serve the series as a beginning, middle and end so at least it resolved well.

I know Parkman can do more than just read minds, much like his father can. I just found it odd that he mentioned that it's the exact same thing that his father can do, when he was talking about faking his own death, and that they both "died" in similar ways, by foolishly talking smack in arms reach of a guy who could kill them.

But remember that after the guy left, it was shown that he was in another room with "Speedy love". He was never within arm's reach of him. Also, he learned how to escape his Father's powers so that's probably why he used the same mind trick on 'fear makes me strong' brothah because it's effective.

Either way, I'm kinda hopin' she makes some kind of play for Nathan....

Well, you first have to be familiar with Strong Bad Emails. You cannot just jump right into Teen Girl Squad.

A buddy of mine said that he's planning a trogdor level...
edit: Whoa - that was way out of context. I must've thought this was a LittleBigPlanet thread or something. My Apologies.

With 'speed girl' I don't get why she'd really be afraid of any physical threats. When Pa Petrelli and black boogeyman begin to menace her, she could be out of there in a blink.
Are they still clinging to the canon of the most recent future? Doesn't everyone from Parkman to Peter to Hiro know about it and are changing it with every action?
