Re: The Celebrity Apprentice -- Season 2 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 3/1/09

Am I the only one that got a chuckle out of the whole "quitting" thing?

The filing comes days after the casino operator's namesake founder said he would resign from the board over disagreements with bondholders who wanted the company to file for bankruptcy.

Friday's statement did not say when Trump's resignation would be offered or take effect. His daughter Ivanka Trump also said she was resigning.

No shit?

Spoiler:
With as big a part of the promotion as he was, I'm stunned he got the boot already. His little bagel rant at the beginning was hilarious. What did he say when he went out that was particularly classy?

Damnit. His speech at the end didn't help his case to Trump. Guess I will casually watch now.

Based on the numbers being flung around like $4k for a cupcake and the frequency, I had just assumed that they had sold more than $100k of cupcakes for each time. It was a bit surprising that the combined total was just $100k.

With the celebrity version of this show, it's more about who has better contacts than who does a better job on the tasks. You don't have to do a lot of work if you know someone willing to pay $10k for a cupcake for charity. For this reason, the whole point of the show has gotten lost.

Spoiler:
he just hugged the 2 others that were up for firing (Rodman, and Walker), knew it was his time and knew he would land on top. Trump had nothing but praise for him and said he was a great person. but, he knows he gave up and really wasn't into it and kinda owned it

I still find it hard to believe that Dice is the biggest selling comedian of all time. Is that for a single performance? I know he was really hot for a while, selling out MSG and so on, but I would expect that someone like Cosby or Carlin or Steve Martin or Robin Williams have played to more people over their careers simply because they actually had careers while Dice had a year where he was hot and then nothing.

It must be either the highest grossing single show or tour.

Is it just me or is 2 hours just too long? It really drags. They need to cut it down to at least 90 minutes.

This is NBC... the ultimate in cost cutting broadcasting. With Leno filling up the 10pm slot on other nights they need to apparently extend this out? I guess they couldn't find an SNL castoff off SNL compilation clips.... oh wait they had that on at 8!

I'm a bit stunned at the decision - I thought for sure it would be Herschel, and Trump would go for a ratings draw over actual merit. If it was possible to think even less of him then previously, Dice managed to pull it off - he's really got to work on his confidence and self worth It was great to see Dice try to avoid the embarrassment of being fired first by offering himself us as some type of martyr only to have Trump take him to task about quitting. If he had done half the effort selling during the challenge as he did selling himself in the boardroom - he may have stuck around. Gotta think Dennis is next.

Dice doing impressions of Stallone and Travolta seemed really desperate to me.

Re: The Celebrity Apprentice -- Season 2 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 3/1/09

I liked the first 2 seasons and season 5 but the celebrity apprentice does not cut it.

I watched last season and once Gene Simmons was eliminated the show got boring.

Maybe Trump should join Hulk Hogans Celebrity wrestling or some other generic reality show since he is officially a has-been now by starring in this show.

Also If Trump is a mega billionaire why can't he afford to televise the show in HD?

Not like he can do his normal routines on network TV I was hoping he'd stay longer, at least to chew someone out.

Sorry dude, but he was an asshole. All self-promotion. He doesn't like to bake (or seemingly to do ANYTHING except sit around) so he makes his own job then accuses Herschel of not managing him correctly?!?! WTF? How to you instruct someone to do something when they're just subborn assholes who refuse to lift a finger? Ugh. Good riddance.

Re: The Celebrity Apprentice -- Season 2 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 3/1/09

I actually think Dice had a pretty good argument, but he just didn't present that argument well in the boardroom. The Sirius thing potentially brought a lot of people to that location, assuming he announced his teammates instead of just himself. To me, that kind of exposure is more important than having one more cook in the kitchen, enthused or not. But (assuming the editing was somewhat legit) Dice instead came out talking about being the court jester and bragging about Madison Square Garden, instead of actually talking up the things he did in the task.

I'd argue that the Sirius thing did nothing. It wasn't a challenge about selling $5 cupcakes. Like every challenge on the celebrity edition it's about who can scam the most off there friends. So unless Dice went to Sirius to get some big money donations what he did was essentially worthless.

Not true.

There were several challenges last year (moreso as the season moved on) where the contestants had to divise the better advertising campaign, etc. and were judged by corporate executives and had nothing to do with fundraising.

The Recycle Your Crocs challenge sticks out in my mind.

If the trend follows again this time, we'll start with several fundraising weeks and then move into true traditional Apprentice stuff.

But the last challenge in CA season 1, it came back to who has more wealthier friends.

Hickory Dickory Dock
You're fired!

Oh!

Pointless non-sequitur of the day: Last night, while looking up stuff up about the contestants on the internet, I learned that Dice's trademark "Oh!" was sampled by the band EMF for their early-90s hit "Unbelievable."

By that logic, there was no point to Jesse James spending all that time taking photos and dressing up the van all fancy because the donations were going to come in either way. He wasted far more time -- both his AND his teammates' time -- with his 'side project' than Dice did and since the individual cupcake sales didn't matter, it ultimately turned out to be just as "worthless" as Dice's little excursion.

The truth is, nobody on either team thought the 'street sales' were pointless going in or else they wouldn't have even cared about any of the promotional efforts/good location/etc. and would have concentrated exclusively on contacting celeb pals, so I don't understand why Dice caught hell for at least *trying* to get word out and bring butts down to the cupcake cart.

I'm sure they were told they had to do something with the van. I mean they had access to the designers. The van stuff was to give people something to do and fill up TV time. Dice went off on his own and it wasn't even like we could see or hear any of his Sirius promotion.
