Lost Premiere Date announced:
2 hour premiere Wednesday January 21st at 9pm. Going back to this timeslot. Plus we got 17 episodes!!!

"Lost" is coming back, and sooner than you might think.
Sources say ABC is scheduling a two-hour premiere for the fifth season debut of the Emmy-winning thriller on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The premiere will be preceded by a one-hour clip show (so three hours of "Lost" total).
That means "Lost" is returning to its Wednesday-at-9 p.m. time period. The most recent fourth season aired on Thursdays -- first at 9 p.m., then shifting to 10 p.m. after "Grey's Anatomy" returned to air following the writers strike. The new premiere date is also slightly earlier than last season.
ABC has lined up 17 episodes for 2009, which is one hour more than the show's now-standard 16-episode tally. The network added an extra hour to compensate for last year, which was cut short due to the strike. Also, yesterday THR reported that Reiko Aylesworth is in negotiations for a major recurring role on the show.
The recently picked up "Private Practice" is currently in the same slot and there's no word yet where it will go once "Lost"returns.

Interesting photo. So Locke and Sawyer are the only two original cast aways left on the island?
Also interesting that Desmond is pictured considering it seemed they wrapped his story up enough for him to ride off into the sunset.

The only two named cast-aways I'm sure there are still a few Artzes, Nikkis, and Paulos if you look hard enough.
Plus Jin...
I do like seeing Desmond in that shot, but I thought his story was wrapped. I guess the island will want him back too.

Yep, Desmond being there was a pleasant surprise. I think he's probably the most universally well liked character on the show, so hopefully that will help convince D&C to keep him involved.
Are Rose and Bernard still supposedly alive and well on the island?

Interesting how Sawyer is at the fore-front of that shot ilo Locke.

I can't wait for Jan with this and Damages coming back (two of the most addictive shows I've seen). Woohoo! I got an e-mail from the Dharma Initiative the other day and remembered just how much I enjoy this series, haha.

Well, they did but they didn't. Ben said he's going to kill Penny, so that sort of throws something bad into Desmond's future.

Desmond and Penny's story isn't over.
They're being really coy about how many surviving 815ers there are. So far, the only "active" ones left are Locke, Sawyer, Rose, and Bernard. Jin and Claire's status is ambiguous. A significant amount seemed to have been killed off during the course of season four, either murdered by the Blackwater crew, or when the freighter exploded.

I didn't think about that. Besides the original 815ers and some of the new chaarcters intoduced last season, did the rest of the 40 odd 815ers die in the explosion? I assume not all were on the boat at the time since Fardaway (spelling) had some with him.

Before the new season starts, does ABC intend to re-broadcast eps from the end of last season? So we can remember where we left off? My memory ain't what it used to be...
