Jeffrey Lyons recommended Alvin and the Chipmunks and he goes crazy over foul language and violence and is kind of a square.
I don't mind Allison Bailes
Their shows only appears once every other week on the bay area NBC affiliate.
I like Roeper and Michael Phillips is ok.
Phillips is a tough critic and it seems he hates almost every movie and is hard to please.

Ben Lyons said Into The Wild should have won best picture so maybe he can't be that bad.

Wow, this new show is bad.
I don't mind the two hosts so much, and I probably prefer the see it/rent it/skip it reviews to the recommend/don't recommend format, but.....
the show is getting really rushed, and the independent films have been tossed by the wayside. There must have been 8 minutes of content between all of the commercials in this last episode.
Its a shame too, because my local network has actually been consistently carrying this show since the new hosts started. Before, it was pre-empted by informercials half the time.
I have had this show on season pass on my DVR for something like 4 years. It pains me to stop watching.

They have had some pretty big disagreements, but Lyons is always smiling so they haven't really gotten angry yet, at least not on camera. I've noticed the editing is awkward. It occasionally seems as if one of them is about to make a point and the discussion comes to an abrupt end, then they start talking about the next movie. It's too bad, because I still have no reason to respect either of their opinions and it would help to understand why they did or didn't like a movie. On the positive side, it seems they are going back more towards the classic format, where they are sitting down the whole time and it's a little less like Access Hollywood. I'm still baffled why the "3 to See" segment contains movies that have not even been released or screened yet.

Have Ebert and Roeper announced yet the project that they suggested they were going to launch together? I haven't heard anything yet?

"The Most Hated Film Critic"
29 December 2008 12:55 AM, PST | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news
A Los Angeles Times article on Sunday suggested that Ben Lyons, the current co-host of the syndicated movie-review show At the Movies, has become "the most hated film critic in America" among film bloggers, columnists, professional movie critics and even longtime fans of the show. (The article observed that viewership this season is down 21 percent from a year ago.) Scott Johnson, who started the StopBenLyons.com blog, told the Times: "I don't expect to agree with a critic all the time. But his approach is to throw out blurbs just so he can get on a poster" for the movie he's reviewing. Erik Childress, vice president of the Chicago Film Critics Assn., remarked, "His integrity's out the window. He has no taste." Variety.com deputy editor Anne Thompson said that with Lyons providing the reviews, At the Movies has become "a train wreck." But Brian Frons, an executive with Disney-ABC Television Group, defended Lyons saying, "This is a guy who, if you sit and talk with him, he really does have an enormous love and knowledge base of movies. ... Did he spend 20 years as critic for a major newspaper? No. He's very much of the TV generation who don't [sic] spend time reading newspapers."

Ouch! That's a pretty scathing write-up. LOL viewership is down 21%. Another network should get on the ball and sign Roeper on for a show just like he did before--and throw it on TV at the same time as At the Movies. They could destroy it forever.

Having watched it for a couple of months now, I don't find him or the new show all that bad. He's annoying to look at (the perpetually upturned corners of his mouth; the patronizing open-handed "go ahead" gesture) and uses too much learned critic-speak, but he's certainly no studio shill. If anything, he hands out more Skip-its to blockbusters than the other guy. I don't understand the hatred, though I too would prefer the show return to more seasoned film critics than these two.
When the hell is Roeper expected to announce his next move?

He's hated by the press because he, along with his TV partner and dad, have dumbed down movie reviewing on television. He's more concerned with glad-handing and sucking up to movie stars than reviewing movies. I've heard on more than one occasion, he doesn't watch a movie and then gives it a negative review on the show.
His politics or religion has nothing to do with his hatred by the press. If it was, don't you think someone would say something in the article?
