I don't understand the huge disappointment with this show. I just got caught up to it at the start of this season and see everything that is happening as a logical progression. There is a TON of more complex internal struggles not that the lines are not so black and white - granted that means the physical battles have turned into emotional ones, but I find that shift just as intriguing as when they were having shoot outs every week...

As someone who has little interest in shows *unless* they're season-long arcs--I could care less about standalone *anythings*--and who has always seen space battles as a trivial part of a good scifi show, I find season four as compelling as ever. It seems like the same show it's always been, and more tightly plotted than ever. Seems to me all that's changed is the DVD Talk perception of what shows are cool or not, with opinion usually being driven by a certain vocal space monkey.
Edit: I say I have no interest in standalone eps of any show, and then turn around and dive into the Doctor Who thread. Typical.

Yeah I don't understand how the same people that were calling it the best show on TV now say they hate it. We're gonna miss show BSG and Lost when they're done. There's barely any sci-fi/fantasy shows left try to enjoy them while they're still here.
P.S. - Sine Qua Non was probably the weakest of the season for me because I was really expected to see what was going on with the baseship.

I'm hoping the writers strike really fucked with the intended arc of this season, and they will pull it all together for their swansong. I hope.

The thing that really annoyed me about this episode was Romo Lampkin.
When he first appeared, he was this master-manipulator legal eagle who got Baltar off. He was a level-headed strategist who was able to put his opponents off their guard. He possessed a keen intellect and deep and profound knowledge of the law.
In "Sine Qua Non" he was a crazy guy who carried a dead cat around in a sack for two months.

Is it because someone flipped a switch and now he's on a rampage? Nope, this time it's just an argument and the two of them make peace minutes later. For frak's sake.

So far, there doesn't seem to be any indication that the final five have the resurrection ability (there are no "versions" of them on the resurrection ships like the "boxed" number 3 had). And they are too far from one to do so. That Tigh was mistreated so badly on Caprica by his OWN RACE seems to show that the capacity for acceptance is all superficial. They were unwittingly mutilating one of their own (just as he unknowingly led the resistance against HIS own race)... perhaps the lesson to come is that tolerance should be the rule and not the exception.

1) Six Pregnant
2) Other Six Dead/Athena in jail
3) Baltar and the president in league
4) Adama resigns
5) Lee becomes president
6) Base-star jumps
7) B*tchy presidential aid/cylon gets called out. Nice!
8) The opera house is back
9) Bill and Saul have it out
How is that not a lot for one hour? I agree that the Lee as president is somewhat weak, but makes sense to a degree.
Yes, I know I have two more eps until I'm caught up so these comments may be somewhat out of date.
Also, other boards seem(ed) to be gushing over a lot of these episodes, whereas this board is just saying it is (was) just plain bad. <shrug>
I seem to let this show go for a while not knowing why I watch it/no anticipation (ala Lost), but then when I do it gets on a roll and it reminds why it's good.

It's also one of those shows that benefits greatly from being able to plow through them in one or two sittings. I envy your restraint. If we hadn't been in the duldrums of the television landscape at the time these were airing, (and if I had any will power or self-control whatsoever) I'd have done the same thing you did.

I'll probably finish up the last two tonight, but then be kicking myself since I hear it's another doozey cliffhanger.

Right on, man. Enjoy them! I enjoyed the midseason finale a great deal, and it'll keep your mindgrapes working for a while (a long while, since we have to wait until '09
to see where this sucker's going. -Doc
