Carly's performance sounded like every performance Amanda ever did.
Loud, over-powered and mush mouthed.

Carly has ZERO voice control in her high range. Add to that she has no identifiable style at all. Same with Syesha. There is no niche for these two. They sing well. Thats it. They have no style that is marketable or memorable.

I am done. All I can hope is Cook wins. I don't like him personality wise, but he is somewhat talented.

I doubt that Carly was making an anti-Christian statement herself.

But here are the lyrics -- make of it what you will. The scene is during the last moments of the crucifiction of Jesus and Judas appears:

VOICE OF JUDAS

Every time I look at you I don't understand
Why you let the things you did get so out of hand.
You'd have managed better if you'd had it planned.
Why'd you choose such a backward time in such a strange land?
If you'd come today you could have reached a whole nation.
Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication.
Don't you get me wrong.
I only want to know.

CHOIR

Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ,
Who are you? What have you sacrificed?
Jesus Christ Superstar,
Do you think you're what they say you are?

VOICE OF JUDAS

Tell me what you think about your friends at the top.
Who'd you think besides yourself's the pick of the crop?
Buddha, was he where it's at? Is he where you are?
Could Mohammed move a mountain, or was that just PR?
Did you mean to die like that? Was that a mistake, or
Did you know your messy death would be a record breaker?
Don't you get me wrong.
I only want to know.

CHOIR

Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ,
Who are you? What have you sacrificed?
Jesus Christ Superstar,
Do you think you're what they say you are?

Yeah, I know some fundies who watch the show and told me they were turned off by it, but they don't vote. I think just too many thought Carly'd be safe.

I do wonder if she'd still be around if she had stuck with her initial song choice.

Do you think people pick up swing votes. I think once your favorite is voted out, your pissed and you dont vote for anyone else. Majority speaking.

I definitely think the survivors pick up votes.

There are those fans who have 2 or 3 favorites so if their #1 contestant leaves, they start powervoting for their #2 singer. But I don't think there are a lot of swing voters after the first few weeks. Everyone has locked in as to who they like by then.

David A. is this year's Melinda Doolittle. Way too much "aww schucks" and nervous giggling. He's the one who comes off like he's not having fun but doing what is expected of him and that he better perform or else.

He's vocally good but I would never listen to anything he's sung thus far if it came on the radio. I just don't like his sound.

I was just saying yesterday that I thought singing a song questioning Jesus was about the opposite of KLC and her patriot songs (I love JCS, but if you can get points for being proud to be an American, it seems like you'll lose points for questioning whether JC is a Superstar or not.) I was only half kidding yesterday, but hell . . . I think I was right. Brooke should have been gone, and I would have been glad because I think she's kind of annoying. I'll be sorry to see Sayesha go next week since I think she should be in the top three.

She's part of the hype machine right now especially with Simon's connection with her. She might have singing abilities but I don't think it's really shown off fully with "Bleeding Love." Everyone wants to make her the next Mariah but the song is no "Vision of Love." We'll see.

Didn't Carly say after she performed her song, "And I remembered all the words!" I took it as a dig at Brooke but wasn't sure.

I don't think so. Carly muffed some words in Tuesday's performance, so I think she was referencing that.

Re: Leona Lewis, I've sampled her songs from her album, and there's nothing I found all that remarkable in terms of singing or songwriting on that album. Sad to find out when the hype doesn't measure out to the actual product being dangled in front of us.

I hate her album and she's obviously singing anything the men in suits give her but some of her performances on The X Factor were amazing. Check out 'Summertime' or 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. Good stuff.

Yeah, "superstar" does not rhyme with "sacrificed", among others.

only one person in our pool of eight picked correctly. I haven't done so since it went to single elimination.

Yep, I picked this as Brooke's "shoulda" song in last week's thread.

Patman: Your being a little hard on Leona Lewis. I actually really enjoyed her performance. Maybe her singing style/songs isn't your cup of tea. I'm actually a big fan of that type of mainstream Pop music and from what I can tell she has a pretty solid fan base in the UK and is gaining some momentum here in the U.S. I bought her album for 10 bucks and I have enjoyed listening to it driving to work every now and then.

I looked at the liner notes and alot of her songs are written by the same Swedish song writers that have written stuff for Backstreet, Britney and N'Sync. Bottom line, it's catchy pop tunes that will sell lots of Itunes downloads and get played on mainstream Top 40 radio. BMG and Clive Davis knows this type of music sells well. For an unproven artist like Leona, she needs to record music that will sell. Same goes with Jordin Sparks....look at her song "No Air" which is getting alot of airplay on the radio and is one of Itunes top downloads.

Red Red Wine, made popular by UB40, was actually a cover of a Neil Diamond song.

Pretty much any of the remaining contestants could do a good cover of this one, and surely one of them will take it.
