The Riches (Update: CANCELLED)
I checked out the first season and ended up really enjoying it. I love all the twists and deceit, and Eddie Izzard is one of my favorite comics. Anyone else a fan? Season 2 is coming back in less than a week next Tuesday.

One of the cool things I read about Izzard is that John Cleese called him 'the lost Python.' I can think of few higher compliments! My favorite humor from Izzard is when he gets silly/morbid; check out this 'Flattened Pickle' clip, it's hilarious

I've been thinking about preordering the first season. Never seen an ep. Encouraging to hear some good things about it.

If you like Eddie Izzard, Minnie Driver, or if you like dark/backwards humor in general I think you'll enjoy the show.
For example, the show is obviously about a family of con artists who literally steal for a living, so their morals aren't all there. At one point Izzard's character Wayne pulls a gun on someone who's on to the family's secret, and you wonder if he would go so far as to shoot him. This person eventually finds out it's a squirt gun with kool-aid in it.
That's kind of typical for the humor of the series: there's some pretty heavy drama, but it's all interspersed with really silly and amusing moments. Their lives are a total lie, and they have to go to ridiculous lengths to continue living the lie.

Last night's was OK. Seems like they tried to pack a lot into that hour...but it was still good. Sad that this is going to get cut short due to the strike...

The only reason I watch this is because I like the actors and their characters. The whole concept of grifters and the constant lying and dishonesty (which is already getting stale) really turns me off, and if the cast wasn't so talented, I wouldn't tune in again.

Even though the season will be 7 episodes long, I'm glad they were able to make some at all given the strike. I'm encouraging my friends to tune in this season so that there will be a third, full season next year. Hopefully you know people who watch the show too. :P

Fuck that noise. I really like this show (season 2 is only just finishing up on Canadian tv - so this blows extra hard). This show can't be that expensive to produce... I'm surprised FX wouldn't give it another shot... shit, Dirt got 2 full seasons.

Never got through the entire first season. Guess I don't need to bother now.

Actually Dirt and The Riches only got a 7 episode 2nd season because of the writer's strike. The strike actually hurt these shows as FX scheduled them in crappy timeslots to fill holes.

I had a love/hate relationship with this show. Great acting, terrible story.
I'm kind of glad it's gone, won't have to agonize through it anymore, but the wife will miss it.

"At least Minnie Driver will have more time to spend with her baby boy.
A rep for FX confirmed Tuesday to EW.com that the network has pulled the plug on The Riches, the critically lauded yet extremely niche dark comedy that starred Driver and Eddie Izzard as grifters who assume the identity of a dead rich couple and along with their kids move right into the deceased's posh neighborhood.
The Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated series premiered in March 2007 and lasted for 20 episodes over the course of two seasons, the second having only seven installments thanks to the writers' strike.
FX's move doesn't exactly come as a surprise: A source told E! News yesterday that the cancellation was coming, and Todd Stashwick, who plays Dale, murderous nutball cousin to Driver's Dahlia Malloy, blogged last week about the show's impending demise.
"Word came down. That word is canceled," the actor wrote. "Thank you everyone, all the passionate folks who were rooting for our return. Alas it will not be."

Well that kind of sucks. While the 2nd season did stall a little bit, it was still entertaining and got better by the end of the season. The "cliffhanger" as it was certainly left things in an interesting position, but I guess we'll never find out the fate of the Malloys.
