Wife and I just finished watching the first two eps. We are Highlander fans, also, and like the vibe. Ditto about just being upfront with the fact that he's been around for years. Apparently, he keeps in touch with his kids! Also, like the fact he just gives his dogs numbers instead of names. In the second ep, we find out about a daughter, a son, granddaughter, great grandson, plus meet one of his wives. Hopefully Fox will let the series run its course. We'll keep watching.

New Amsterdam---Series Discussion---For remainder of season

Okay, judging by the 1st thread I posted on this show, it seems like there are a few people here who like the show. But, most of you don't seem to care for it. So, here's a generic thread for the final 6 episodes if anyone still cares.

By the way, new episode tonight at 9pm after Canterbury's Law

Synopsis for Soldier's Heart:

Spoiler:

Skeptical of a confession by a homeless Gulf War veteran (Orlando Jones) who says he murdered a psychiatrist, Amsterdam probes the doctor's own research for clues about the killing.

Let's me summarize John's thought balloon at the end of the episode:

"Doh!"

I like the show, I like the main characters, but there was something kinda meh about how this storyline was handled. I'm also a fan of Orlando Jones and was looking forward to him playing a bigger role in tonight's ep but that didn't happen.

I also like the show, but the best part is the flashbacks. The police cases are kind of dull and seem like more of an afterthought. Still don't like the partner.

I'm in for the rest of the show.

I've seen eps 1 and 3 (need to go back and catch #2... but my wife filled me in), and I liked what I saw.

Well it could not be that easy for him to get with the "one."

I really liked episode 3. I felt alot of chemistry between Amsterdam and Dr. Dillane. The flashbacks of Amsterdam's past life are really well done.

The best scene was Sara giving Amsterdam a physical. Her eye contact and her smiles were really sexy IMO. The scene was surprisingly hot. Alot similarities to Moonlight, especially with the reveal of her being married at the end of the episode.

I'm in all the way to the season finale.

I thought the last episode was mostly average. Fairly uninteresting crime plot, but a decent flashback.
His partner is still pretty useless. She seems to not know stuff so Amsterdam can show his knowledge. There is also zero chemistry between the two.
Hopefully the writers can make her a more interesting character.

While I haven't exactly been grabbed by the show, there's not too much I really dislike. I'll keep watching until something else bumps it off the DVR.

I think the crime plots are supposed to be secondary to Amsterdam's story.

Considering that he often knows thing no normal person would know, I don't see a problem.

.
I agree - I the crime plot gets in the way of the rest of the show.

I was liking how he fought in the civil war etc... then back to the stereotypical crime drama ... then to the interesting testing of blood and how could someone live for ever... cut to crime drama

.... cut to me erasing remainder of show from DVR

I wanted this show to be good - I like the humor, history, idea of living 4 ever... but a cop show ... come on

The important point I think is that the crimes set the stage for his reflections of his past experiences. It's as if he hadn't thought of these incidents in a long time. For example, he's 400 years old and I feel as though I'm seeing him recognize his own character growth before us. His run in with VA vet, allowed him to remember his episode with the patient during the civil war and see how this was an opportunity to have another chance.

I think I had a hint of this last episode, but to me it was rather prominent in this episode.

I'll also second the hotness of the examination scene. I think their interaction ads a new dimension to the show. I actually thought they were going to end up in bed by the end of the examination, so I'm glad she's married even though it's perhaps cliche.

I also thought Orlando Jones would have a bigger role too. He basically played the same character from Office Space, but without the magazine sales pitch. I hope there are other guest stars in the next few episodes.

Me neither. And I think part of that dislike stems from how they are writing Amsterdam to say stupid things like "it wasn't like that two hundred years ago" - quite plainly saying to her "I've been alive since the 1700's". It isn't smart or clever just dumb.

That sort of carelessness in his character makes the viewer feel that his cavalier attitude shouldn't have allowed him to exist so secretly for so long. That he is constantly spawning families (two that we know of so far) is also rather reckless - though understandable considering how he seems to have handled it.

I'll watch it to the end, but I can see why the original FOX executive wanted to shelve it permanently. Certainly wont be made a second season unless its lead in is helping it...

I thought the crime story was much more interesting this week even if it was still predictable. So I guess this show isn't going to last since he got together with 'the one'.

I'm sure there will be more to it, but I really was hoping that they'd develop their relationship a lot more. I feel like the last 30s-1m of the episode is something I should have seen in S2, not episode 4.

Maybe there's a good yet to come of this. Was he crawling in the rain on his hands and knees in an ally during the preview for next week?

I dont think she should be the one. Would be more interesting to have them fall for each other then he meets the one.

Yeah I agree that Amsterdam and Dr. Dillane hooking up right away felt really rushed. Their love scene however was very nice.

I think if the show makes it past this season, they will throw a few hurdles in their relationship.

Well was it though? Did they really even SOLVE the original crime? Seems to me that the guy who killed the nun in the beginning is still on the loose, no?

? I thought they got the guy for rape (after he was let go the first time)? If not, it's because I thought something in the system was rigging it. Would be interesting if a "bad" Amsterdam came around that was manipulating the city.
