I'm not sure why this episode is getting so much hate, I thought it was pretty reasonable.
The last minute or so was what makes this show great; an excellent moment between Jim and Michael.

Interesting little snippet from Wikipedia, though:
Eggs as dairy?
"Eggs & dairy" is a common category. Some people may define dairy as "food that is produced by animals (other than meat)" rather than as milk specifically. Under this definition, eggs are grouped with milk products. For example, the Open Directory Project at one point listed cooking eggs as a subcategory of cooking dairy products. Defining dairy as limited to milk products, however, is more common and definitely right. Eggs are not dairy, rather they belong to the "meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dry beans, and nuts" group on the food pyramid.

We need more episodes like the Jim storyline tonight, and less that are like the Micheal storyline.

My first laugh-out-loud moment of this season: Michael cramming those mushrooms into his mouth.

I find it funny and unfortunate that so many people are bitter about the episode. It's a TV show for crying out loud. You don't have to watch it. It doesn't owe you anything. It's not raping your adulthood.

I found out how to enjoy the Office. I sit on my couch with a book. As soon as there's a scene that takes place outside the office, I start reading my book. When they return to the office, I start watching the show. It's much funnier this way.

Then you'd have missed the mushroom scene.

I thought it was that way for the UK version, too.

The quote from Wikipedia is interesting. I can kind of see why eggs and dairy are lumped together since they're two of the few animal-produced foods we eat (honey is another). Some vegetarians will eat such foods, although I've always heard them referred to ass "eggs and dairy" or "lacto-ovo" vegetarians, and not just "dairy" vegetarians, since that would imply they don't eat eggs.

Again great episode (I had to come back and say that to counter the "things were always better back in the day" folks, they'd get along great with my dad). I would put this as the best of the season for me so far.
Maybe you have to be a Survivorman fan but Michael's tone and mannerisms when talking to the camera were a dead on homage to Les Stroud. I am 100% sure that many people have thought about hitting the woods and trying to be Survivorman (just like I'm sure a couple of idiots have actually tried). It is completely reasonable to see Michael actually carrying it out.

Favorite moment in this episode: when Michael is trying to appear brighter than he is by looking at the sun to predict the time of day...then he ever so cleverly briefly glances at his watch then says it must be 2:00 o'clock! :

I just watched the episode again and it plays MUCH better on a second viewing. While I still don't care for all the time Michael spends outside of the office these days, at least he wasn't in absolute over-the-top mode this week, which was a nice change.

But, it would be tough to have the Jim storyline with-out the Micheal on right? With-out Mike leaving the office, there isn't really a reason for Jim to be put in charge...

Michael spending a lot of time out of the office makes sense managerial-wise. I am sure more work gets done and morale improves in his absence, and better branch performance benefits everyone.

I agree that Jenna looked amazing. She always does.
I love watching Survivorman, and enjoyed the episode, but it was nothing special. I can't help but think that the episode would have been far better if Michael had actually eaten the shrooms and gotten high.
I didn't like Jim's power trip, and thought aside from Dwight's hidden knives nothing was really funny inside the office itself.

I misunderstood.
I never said that in my hypothetical, "improved" version of the show the mushrooms were poisonous rather than psychedelic. That was the point of confusion for me. I simply meant that Michael eating shrooms & hallucinating in the forest might have been a pretty entertaining plot.
