With so much accessible I have a hard time justifying spending ten hours watching something that started off this poorly. I was expecting a mini-series that was made with a purpose but everything about this feels like a focus group and for cash production.

I think the remaining 4 eps are only 1 hour each.

10 hours? I thought there were only 4 more 1-hour shows? (For a total of 6 hours).

Wow, you're incredibly lucky to have never seen a single sitcom in your entire life.

I missed the first 20 minutes, but was quickly drawn in. After it was over I watched the first 20 minutes. If I was watching it live, I would have turned the TV off after 10.

Although I enjoyed for the most part, I just couldn't get the thought of JMS' Rising Stars out of my head.

In that: a "mysterious extraterrestial phenomenon" impacts earth. Several years later it is found that children in utero during the Flash received enhanced abilities.

It'll be interesting to see where The 4400 goes with this plot either way.

Does anybody remember the list of bands on the CD given to the high school kid? Other than The Darkness I can't remember them. Also, what's the name of the song (and band) of the tune he listened to?

I thought the show was interesting enough to keep watching. Some of the lines were cheesy, but I have easily seen much worse so this one seemed normal in comparison.

I thought 4400 -was- Rising Stars, just retitled. Seriously. I was going to watch the credits to see if JMS was the writer or just a producer or something.

Chew - Killing Joke was one of the other bands. I can't remember any of the rest.

For a made-for-tv mini, it was certainly tolerable.

Sure, there were lots of laughable, cliched dialogue moments and a dreaded 'search satellite images for a specific cabin based on a 30 year old photo' scene, but I'll admit to having been entertained.

I'm in for the duration, I think...

I enjoyed it after the first 30 minutes. In fact, it is one of a handful of shows currently running that I will bother to make time to watch. And that worried me. 4 different people per episode to go over, and 4400 people. 1 episode already down, so there are probably only 1099 episodes left. What then? WHAT THEN?????

I thought it was decent. I am kind of wondering where they are going with the story. I mean, is the intention to get this picked up as a regular series? If so, then they obviously won't tell us the why/how of these people were abducted.

I did see that it did score the highest cable premiere ever with 7.4 million viewers tuning in. I'd say that bodes well if they want to turn this into a full time series.

The 4400 - 7/18/04

After the promising premiere, I wanted to see if it kept up.

- So far, the format of the show is almost Quantum-Leap-ish. Character X finds that he is given some sort of power that he ends up using in the situation in which he finds himself in, and by the end of the show his plotline is essentially wrapped up, and we jump to the next character. Oh, boy.

- I'm not sure if I like the music on the show yet. The first episode had that weird "Bye Bye Baby" song (edit: "Worry About You," by Ivy"), and the title music isn't that great, but when Carl woke up to deliver some vigilante justice ("Poison Well," by Insolence), the music was great.

- The actress playing the little girl seems to be acting less weird, which is great.

- The guy's name is actually Mahershalalhashbaz Ali? For some reason, I swear he's been in more than what it says on his IMDb page.

- Carl's plotline was kind of predictable.

- Am I supposed to care about Guy Agent getting a divorce? I want to get back to the 4400 already!

- While watching the show tonight, I realized that the fact that the vast majority of the 4400 are staying in the Seattle area, while creepy, is just a plot device so that the HSD agents can stay in the same location the whole time and be able to deal with the 4400-of-the-week but also deal with the little girl and the stuff that is happening in ComaGuy's family without going back and forth.

The point about the 4400's staying the same place, was mentioned in the pilot episode. The female agent brought that up.

I thought it was kinda slow this week. Just not edgy enough. One of the problems is that I really don't care about any of the characters other than the little girl and the pregnant girl and her guy. The rest are just blah.

Pretty dull episode. Not sure if I'll watch the rest or not. Probably only if I'm home with nothing better to do.

Carl (Steve from SitC) did inspire people to take back that park, but he paid a high price. It felt a little like Astro City (a comic title written by Kurt Busiek) with its real life super-strong vigilante. I hated Scouris's pronouncication of "vigiLONtee". Is she Canadian?

That baby Lily is carry is one scary development. Ominous is the feeling I got from her and Tyler's subplot. So what's Tyler's new ability?

I know, and it was brought up in a spooky way. Like, "Wow, isn't that weird." But the writers probably didn't write that in just to be spooky... they did it as a device so that the HSD agents can interact with the 4400-of-the-week and still get their other interactions in, like with family or the HSD director.

Although a let-down when compared to the pilot, there's still plenty of stuff going on to keep me interested.

I like how the overall storyline of several main 4400 characters is followed, but still has a "4400 of the week" plot as well.

Rising Stars and Astro City indeed.
