Are you a communist?
That can be the only thing I can think of!
I know what you mean but the same thing can be said of things of Date Movie and the such. Even with the new episodes, I will still watch them but perhaps only find a few jokes.
I think the only problem is that you ask why other people find it funny, like if you know why they do, you will.
Thats the tricky thing with comedy I'm afraid. You either get it or don't.

In regards to Seinfeld (don't worry no bashing) I think it's a show where you either find it funny or just plain stupid. I will admit one thing (actually two) Kramer is actually a pretty funny character at times & if I was locked in a room & had the choice between watch Seinfeld, Friends or Everybody Love Raymond I would pick Seinfeld in a second based on the fact that at least it adverts from the standard sitcom premise.
I like sitcoms (alot of em') but some are just not my cup of Tea.
I promise no more Seinfeld Bashing!

Interesting that this thread has gone 4 pages and no one really answered my question. I have NEVER found it funny, past a chuckle or smile, regardless of which season it was in. Obviously most people here like the show quite a bit, and I knew I was in the minority but at the same time it was interesting to see how the thread devolved into something completely different. Not being a fan I was certainly not aware of the "decline" but as this thread has shown there obviously has been one.

A few decent eps in S9 and S10 and then it became unwatchable for me.

The Simpsons may not always get a laugh out of me, but it keeps me entertained during the running time. I somehow always stop on the show when channel surfing, even if I'm watching something on a different channel.

Out of the animated shows I have/currently watch, only "Family Guy" brought out the laughs big time. Peter "singing" Axel F gets me every single time I see it.
But funny (witty) writing doesn't always have to equate to bursting out into laughter.
The problem I had with the decline of "The Simpsons" is that it went from "chuckle & smile funny" to "doesn't bring the funny at all". When I have to say to myself "maybe next episode will be funnier" for an entire season it is time to call it quits.

For me, "The Simpsons" ceased to be of good quality after the eighth season. For the ninth season, Mike Scully took over as show runner and the decline in quality was VERY apparent. The few classic episodes of the ninth season, "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson," "Lisa the Simpson," were holdovers from the period that Bill Oakley and Josh Weinsten were showrunners (seasons 7 and 8.) The fact that these episodes were the few brightspots in the ninth season make it clear to me that Scully's influence is what lead to the decline in quality that began in the ninth season and lasted through his leaving the position in the twelfth, and has persisted today.

When Simpsons is bad, it's very bad. When Simpsons is good, though, it's so funny it makes me laugh very hard, very out loud. I'm talking tears in the eyes, stomach-ache, completely out of breath funny. These perfect little moments in comedy time make all the rest worth it. The Spider-pig sequence in the trailer makes me think I have got to see this, for whatever other laughs are in there, and out of thanks for the years and years of pleasure I've gotten from Simpsons past. Unfortunately, my wife is one of the "it's animated, so it's supposed to be for kids, but that's adult humor, wtf?" people. I'll eventually get her indoctrinated.
Homer is a hero to many, including me.

^^^ I can't stand when people say it's a cartoon so it has to be written for children, either. The Simpsons is an adult comedy & it's not ment for kids at all really, it just happens that alot of kids do like to watch The Simpsons.
Homer is indeed my hero, but going back abit to the people who find Family Guy & South Park better/funnier. I don't think they are better or funnier at all. You see The Simpsons out of the "cartoon" comedies that is funny but it doesn't go into the lets try & insult every race & just be plain out crude every episode. Futurama did they same thing but to me it's just not as good or memorable as The Simpsons.
I think what makes The Simpsons funny is that sure they do some stupid things sometimes but it still has Class.
Anyways going back to the if it's a cartoon it's for kids, Remember that The Flintstones, which is pretty much referred to as a childrens cartoon wasn't originally intended to be. The Flintstones was written by adults for adults.

I've never found the Simpsons to be funny at all.
I find it pretty much excruciating to watch, in fact.
I also hate Seinfeld, contrary to the OPs theory.
I love King of the Hill though.

I never found the simpsons that great
I'd watch from time to time, and laughed at some stuff, but overall I was never impressed
futurama and family guy are superior

I don't get the Simpsons. I really do not find it funny at all. I have tried a bunch of times and just don't "get it" at all.
This hit home during a preview for "The Simpsons Movie" where people were laughing (not everyone) at most everything in the clip, but I did not find it funny at all. "Spiderpig" seemed to be especially funny to many, but I am not sure what exactly is funny about it.
On the other hand, I find Seinfield very funny. I have also noticed that a lot of peole hate Seinfield but find Simpsons funny. I am the opposite. Are they polar opposites of comedy.
I find a lot of things very funny, but not the Simpsons at all. It reminds me a little of The Far Side type of humour which I also find totall unfunny.
Anyone else?

However, I do love The Far Side.

Because, good or bad, Simpsons has always been about every kind of humor: satirical, crude, erudite, post-modern, slap-stick, non-sequitur, and much much more - all kinds of humor. And anyone who pigeonholes it into one singular peg is speaking out of ignorance. Also, Simpsons has many jokes and situations that any self-respecting Far Side fan would greatly appreciate.
