School me on Tivo
I have never owned a Tivo before but now with the $300 one launching to rave reviews it got my interested. What do I need to use this? Currently I have Time Warner Cable and a DVR box (with an HDMI port that does not work, ugh). If I get the new Tivo box do I have to keep that DVR box? My internet connected in Cable and I have no LAN line in my house, will that be a problem? How will I get HD channels without it? Sorry, I just have no idea how it really 'works'.
Thanks!
Thanks!

you would get rid of your dvr box.
time warner would have to come out and connect cable cards to your tivo. you would have a cable wire going fro mthe wall to the tive and 2 cable cards that would decode the signal.
you would then have 2 tuners of pure television magic at your hands.

Tivo HD accepts two CableCards. Cable company would supply these and take away your current box. The TivoHD would have a single coaxial connection from the cable co and an HDMI output to your TV. The Tivo needs connection to either a 1.) wired ethernet network, 2.) a wireless network or 3.) a phone line. It needs to download the guide information so it knows which shows are on at what time. But IMHO, without a network connection of some kind, you'd rule out a bunch of functionality like downloading shows and movies from Amazon, dowloading podcasts and video postcasts, etc.
