Being both black and gay has got to be tough in their community. Down-low or not.

KillerCannabis: "Good point, although I still consider *********** to be much worse of a epiphet than faggot. Faggot, lamentable as it may be, is still a "popular" (for lack of a better term) insult among school kids and friends that rag on each other. Even if it was said in a hostile manner toward someone Washington knew wasn't gay it's not nearly as bad as ***********."
Bullshit! I believe the word "f*ggot" is just as bad as "*******". Both are hateful. Your "popular" explanation doesn't hold up as the word "n*igger" is still "popular" amongst certain assholes as is "f*ggot".

Agreed. Disgusting. I wonder how the same people who voted for him would feel if a white person won an award who openly used the word "*******"?

So yeah dude has gone insane. Here's a letter he wrote for Newsweek:
“Diary of an Angry Black Man.”
The fired Grey’s Anatomy star tells the magazine:
“Patrick [Dempsey] and I had a philosophical disagreement that got out of hand and that I regret a great deal. I said a lot of negative things that were never reported, but there was one word that caught everyone’s attention, particularly someone who wasn’t even in the room with us. It was a fight between two men that shouldn’t have happened. But someone heard the booming voice of a black man and got really scared and that was the beginning of the end for me. I see that now, but I didn’t then.”
“I apologized and showed my remorse for what I said and for the pain I caused anyone. If a black man can’t get forgiveness in this country, when so many other people like Robert Downey Jr. and the governor of California get second and third chances … I think that says a lot about race and this country where we stand.”
“I thought them sending me meant they actually wanted me to succeed and come out on the other end. There is no rehab for homophobia—that was just some crap being put out by the network. I went into an executive counseling program which many people in this industry know about and go to. They knew what the program was but chose to call it what they wanted to fit their agenda. And more importantly, I volunteered for it because I wanted to understand my fight with Patrick and how it got out of hand like that. I wanted to know what I could do to avoid it happening again.”
“Growing up in the South, I wasn’t exposed to as many different lifestyles and personalities as I could have been. And that’s always a problem, because the more you’re exposed, clearly the more you know and understand. My mother had several cross-dressing friends who she sometimes referred to with names I’d never use, but she didn’t know any better. There was no hate, just lack of awareness.”
“Well, it didn’t help me on the set that I was a black man who wasn’t a mush-mouth Negro walking around with his head in his hands all the time. I didn’t speak like I’d just left the plantation and that can be a problem for people sometime. I had a person in human resources tell me after this thing played out that ’some people’ were afraid of me around the studio. I asked her why, because I’m a 6-foot-1, black man with dark skin and who doesn’t go around saying ‘Yessah, massa sir’ and ‘No sir, massa’ to everyone? It’s nuts when your presence alone can just scare people, and that made me a prime candidate to take the heat in a dysfunctional family.’’
“My mistake was believing that I would get the support from my network and all of my cast mates across the board. My mistake was believing I could correct a wrong with honesty and sincerity. My mistake was thinking black people get second chances. I was wrong on all fronts.”

I heard he's going on Larry King next week, is that true?
Have any of the cast members/crew members from Grey's Anatomy responded to any of this stuff yet? I'd love to hear what Katherine Heigl, TR Knight, and the producers have to say in response to all the crap he's spouting out.

I can't believe he played the plantation card.
Maybe the fact that he's surly, hostile and tried to strangle Dempsey played a role in people being uncomfortable around him?
Edit: I doubt we'll see any response from the show or its actors. He's a loose cannon with no vested interest left in being diplomatic, so any "dialog" would just feed the fire.
This is starting to seem just like one of those Real World "angry black man" flareups.

I love how this schmuck keeps talking about how T.R. Knight wasn't there when he made his offensive remark, as if that makes it okay that he said it.

The Grey's cast would do well to not dignify any of the complete garbage Washington dreams up next. Let him run his mouth off, and he will soon understand that while some may be listening, no one gives a shit.
If he has any sense at all, he'll realize that sooner rather than later.

His problem was he never let that gay comment go.
He apologized and did all they wanted him to do, but kept talking about it.
Just do what you need to, and shut up, and let it die. It seems like he kept stirring it up himself, and making excuses, rather than taking it on the chin.

stingermck: I agree. I'm gay and don't think he should have been fired for the initial incident. We all say stupid things in anger. Unfortunately, he had to open his stupid mouth at the awards show. What an idiot.

I'm arriving late to the discussion but I'm puzzled about one thing. Isn't grabbing a co-worker by the throat a much more serious offense than name calling? You may or may not get fired for calling someone a f***** but you certainly would be for a violent attack. You could possibly even face criminal charges. Regardless of race or sexual preferences it rises to a whole other level with violence at the workplace.

I have a very nice shovel I'd like to loan Washington... but then again, it's already twice the necessary depth for a good burial, and he's done it all with his own shovel. So I suppose he doesn't need much help...

So he tries to strangle someone and uses a homophobic slur...and then he has the nerve to play the race card????
If he feels wronged about being fired...let him call Don Imus. They have a lot to talk about.

Its amazing to me that this guy just keeps on making things worse for himself. I just hate it when anyone plays the race card when it is unwarrantied. Fine, i can sympathise when a person has been truly wronged, but this guy feels like he is the victim at the end of it all. They wanted him fired because he is black...come on man. Maybe it has something to do with your anger management issues, your runaway mouth and your lack of discression in public. I am sure that Patrick Dempsey and TR Knight are no angels themselves, but at least they have the good sense to keep a low profile and keep schtum. It will be incredible if Washington gets to act much more in the future. And one more thing, with regards to Robert Downey Jnr.....the only person he hurt was himself with all his drug problems. At least he eventually managed to turn things around for himself in a somewhat respectable manner.

He made his bed and now he should be sleeping in it. Instead he is just going on and one and on and making himself look like more of an idiot each time he says something.
