Rosie O'Donnell was hired because the network knew she would make controversial comments on the air. Washington's comments were made "behind the scenes" and wouldn't be tolerated in most workplaces. If somebody working for me made that sort of remark, they'd be gone the same day -- not month's later.

What the fuck happened to free speech? I may not agree with what he said, Same with Richards but they can say whatever they want. Althrough this is what happens when you do so I guess If you want to leave a TV show just say something racist and your gone!

Company's can do whatever they want, but this goes right along with what I consider an insane level of attention on a person's words, rather than their actions. I guess I'm just the forgive and forget type of person...no need for rehab, no need for checks, just a sincere apology. That doesn't cut it in showbiz appearantly.

If Washington said what he said in a fit of anger, but generally had good relationships with his fellow castmates and had made a genuine personal apology to T.R. Knight, probably nothing else would have happened. But his co-stars didn't exactly rally to his defense. I get the impression that several of them didn't want to work with Washington any more.

Well I didn't say there wern't going to be any consequences, I guess I should have said it alittle better by saying that people get way to offended nowadays. I'm not saying people didn't complain & be offended back in the day but now it just seems more & more people are being a bunch of stuck up snobs.
I really didn't think it dipped ti'll season 9 personally, the Mark Greene dying ark was really well done I thought.
It hasn't gone down in quality IMO, the story lines have just been ALOT darker the last 10 episode or so, and thus its not the happy-go-lucky it was in the past. The writers were experimenting and it obviously didn't work.
Also, again IMO ER was not good until season 9, it started to go downhill dramatically at the end of season 6 and by season 7 it just wasn't the same show at all.

Unfortunate to lose one of the few interesting characters left...let's hope they write Bailey back to prominence this season and give Christine that edge we all know she has. The remaining characters (now that Addison is moving on to her spin-off) have annoyed me for the most part.
I did see this coming, but I was hoping that Burke would have a much stronger exit.

GA's probably going to decline like most other shows like this. I don't expect it to improve--this makes it worse. Preston Burke as a character is really too good to throw away, but they've done it--and with Kate Walsh's exit, there's few characters left who aren't nauseating.

This is definitely a blow to the show. Will they bring Rees back? He might be good, but I don't think I'd like his character as much as Burke.
Maybe they'll bring Dr. Kahn over to Seattle Grace, but would she be as good without the rivalry with Burke?

Why is he, "Mad as hell"? I wonder if someone was giving him false hope in terms of keeping him around?

I'm not privvy to anything, but I'd say probably so. The false hope was in the contract negotiations and the open ended script. Plus the fact that the finale had him doing the majority of the heavy lifting acting wise. Reportedly Shonda Rimes was the one who called him and lowered the boom.

Sure, he's got something to complain about: Getting canned...
While he's certainly not the most popular guy on the GA set, this was just a shoddy way to do business. And you never know, one of the other GA cast members might get the "Washington Treatment" themselves.
