CBS cancels Jericho and a few more...

CBS cancels 'Jericho,' two others
'Class,' 'Home' axed; 'Your Mother' renewed
By JOSEF ADALIANCBS has apparently nuked "Jericho," dismissed "Class" and closed the book on "Close to Home."
Net wasn't commenting Tuesday, but several people familiar with the situation said none of the skeins has been given a series order for next season. "Close to Home" had been considered near dead for several months now, with "Class" on the longshot list, but there had been speculation that CBS would exercise some patience with "Jericho."

Eye skeins getting better news this week include "How I Met Your Mother," which has been picked up for a third season. Eye's most buzzworthy laffer might seem to be a no-brainer for renewal, but CBS execs make producers sweat it out until the last minute.

End for "Close to Home" comes after two seasons for the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced drama. Cancellation also means that, for the first time in many years, Bruckheimer will be losing a show from his still impressive slate of hits. It's also the second consecutive year Bruckheimer has failed to place a new show on the nets' skeds.

"The Class" is a heartbreaker for the small audience of the Warner Bros. TV-produced show, which seemed to find its creative voice toward the end of its shortened first season. It also produced stable ratings in the 8:30 p.m. slot, but the show's lofty auspices and huge pre-season hype had CBS execs hoping for more.

As previously reported, "The Unit," "Numbers" and "Ghost Whisperer" will be back next season, as will "NCIS" and all three "CSI" skeins.

Sole CBS frosh drama set to return is "Shark." Eye is also moving forward with another year of "Rules of Engagement."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not happy at all that they cancelled Jericho.

No skein off my back.

Glad The Unit is coming back, but I hope they didn't paint themselves in a corner with that horrible season finale.

I wish they renewed Jericho. I didnt think it was doing that poorly. It wasn't too bad towards the end.

Not a biggy. Jericho improved after its hiatus, but it was still nothing special - most of the episodes were yawners.

Good to see Shark back. After FNL, my favorite new drama of the season.

The only show I currently watch on CBS is How I Met Your Mother, so I am fairly pleased.

I am soooo glad I stoped watching Jericho after they went on break

But They did have ratings and I don't think the production costs were too high. Looks like the bar finaly ran out of booze

it's official, the only non sporting event show I will watch on CBS now is HIMYM and maybe the occasional episode of 60 minutes.
Really pissed about Jericho getting the axe. Maybe some other network will somehow pick it up. Won't be able to watch in HD though I bet!

I had the same thought. I had planned on catching up with the show on DVD before next season. Guess that's not a big priority anymore! Does it even look like there will any closure on Jericho?

Good news about HIMYM. It's far from groundbreaking, but it's a fun show. What about Old Christine?

That's just unbelievable that a show going way over 10M viewers on Friday (Close to Home) gets the axe. But, considering CBS has so few open spots available, someone had to get sacrificed.

I'm a little disappointed with Jericho, but it's CBS' fault for doing the split season for a new show which pretty much killed it.

I had no idea it did that well. That is very surprising.

I'm annoyed that they canceled Jericho since there's no real resolution. It got good ratings until the long hiatus killed interest in the show. Perhaps sci-fi or somebody could pick up the torch.

I'm shocked too. I honestly thought it would slip by for a second season. Oh well. More time for other stuff I guess.

Fuck you CBS. You screwed Jericho over yourselves. Now there isn't a damn thing on your network worth watching. Assholes.

Long Hiatus= Death knell to shows.

Look at heroes, it lost 20 percent of its audience.

Yep, that's what pisses me off the most. Leave us hanging with that 21 (?) star flag, the shootout as they fade to black, and Hawkins on the tank.

Down to Survivor and HIMYM for me, as I also watched and enjoyed The Class (and King of Queens, but that was already done).

Jericho screwed themselves...they spend the first half of the season on tedious storylines that no one cared about. By the time they started to correct the error of their ways, most had tuned out. Can't blame CBS for not wanting to pick up the tab for Season 2...that's not a cheap show to produce.

God, I love how networks abandon these serial dramas after they start dropping in the ratings. Invasion last year. Jericho this year. If they were a tad bit smarter with these stupid hiatuses, then maybe people would stick around.

They tuned out because the show was off the air for 2 months.

I really don't get the hiatus 'problem' myself. People don't seem to have a problem 'finding' shows after a 3-month summer hiatus. Makes you wonder how people 'found' shows prior to the Internet.
