I seriously thought this was a rerun. Oh well, I'm sure it will be about as good as the last time, which was not very.

Glad to have my HD-DVR now. Recording for Snow Patrol, fast forward through the rest.
|
I don't care how old she is, but I'd hit Julia Louis Dreyfus seven ways to Sunday.
|
Hard time finding guest hosts?
JLD was mediocre last time. |
JLD is very funny improv wise. Its the writing that sucks.
|
She didn't need Seinfeld money DAMN!
Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus surprisingly does hold her own on the list. The New York native is a daughter of a French billionaire Gerard Louis-Dreyfus who runs Louis-Dreyfus Group, a successful investment firm on the two continents in New York and Paris. Julia’s full name is posh Julia Elizabeth Scarlett Louis-Dreyfus and even though her parents divorced when she was only one and half years old, she always remained father’s favorite child (he has four others to take care for). On the heals of recent Emmy nomination and the syndication bonus salaries all the Seinfeld cast has received, Julia’s inheritance and net value could add up to nearly $600 million, making her second richest woman in entertainment behind Oprah Winfrey. |
i like 'the new adventures of old christine' but i still hate JLD. she sucked the first time and as im watching it now-she still sucks. i thought this was a rerun as well-they should let Donald Fasion or John C. McGinley from 'Scrubs' host, hell they let Rainn Wilson host from 'the office' so why not?
JLD to me isn't a funny person, she is less annoying now then she was on seinfeld (i hate that show) and she looks better now to me then she did 10 years ago. |
I LIKE Julia Louis-Dreyfus (she was great last year)! I HATE tonite's material!!
Every sketch is falling flat, especially WU - Seth still does not know how to deliver. |
JLD is hot, but these sketches blow.
|
I watched the first half hour and fell asleep, but I had the foresight to record it so I'll watch the rest tomorrow. So far, it's terrible. That Restless Penis Syndrome sketch was ridiculously bad, and the audience knows it.
I also didn't the understand that commercial parody about GOLD. I think the joke was just the way Wiig said the word GOLD with such passion. Yeah, an entire bit written behind one word. And Chris Rock doing a blacks vs whites spiel? Is this 1975? |
Chris Rock's whole monologue came from his guest apperances on talk shows that week promoting his movie.
|
The robots were funny.
|
The last few shows feel like there are less skits.
Like they make the skits they like longer than usual so they won't have to write more skits. Either that or they are so poor that they feel like they go on forever. Why would robots need to repay each with sex? Its not irreverent it's just stupid. The "Gold" commercial was funny on paper, but again it went on too long, even longer than the gold investment spots it's parodying. |
I think that the Gold commercial even confused the audience. There was a slow build of applause.
Most of this show was terrible. JLD is a more than adequate host, but this material is just awful. Seriously, it's time that this show gets put out of its misery. |
Wow...Julia is sooooooooooooooooooooooo HOTTTTTT! She seriously looked great, and was did well. The show's writing is very bad though, and it showed. I think Rainn Wilson had the best show all year so far.
|
The judge from Anna Nicole Smith's trial on WU is over its 15 minutes. Went on way to long. Thought the monologue was good. Julia seemed to use the same painful expression during the whole show, but I agree she looked good.
Snow Patrol was really really good. Does anyone know if the first song was new, or on their "Chasing Cars" CD? |

Re: the show....the Chris Rock opener and the monologue were the only good parts of the show. That Gold commercial was just beyond weird. I'm glad the studio audience responded the same way the rest of America probably did. |

Did Brad Hall hit the jackpot, or what? Not only is his wife super hot and doesn't seem to age (he looks 3 times older than she does, yet they're the same age), she's super rich and pretty funny to boot.
As for the show, JLD's monologue was pretty funny and there was one skit that made me laugh (though I forgot which one, so it couldn't have been too good) - and the rest of the show was shit. As for Snow Patrol, while their music is basically inoffensive background/elevator music, actually listening to it made me grow a vagina... |

The CBS Promo sketch was the best of the night.

The worst episode of the season. The only funny part was the opening with Chris Rock (I laughed although he used the same jokes on Conan/Letterman/Larry King this past week).
I'm interested to see Peyton Manning next week (anything think Tom Brady might appear?) and I like the musical guest (Carrie Underwood). |
I liked the PSA breast cancer bit and the Italian talk show. The RPS and robot bits were chuckle-worthy at times.
|
Snow Patrol was great, and if I was Bred Hall I would DEMAND that she went to bed that night as her character from Deep House Dish

The opening sketch and JLD monologue were great. Then it all went downhill from there. The Italian talk show brought a few chuckles but the rest was garbage.
|
This episode gets a C+. Usually there is at least one very good sketch. Not tonight. They ranged from so-so to terrible. JLD gets an A for her hosting.
Chris Rock Blacks vs. Whites is as stale as can be. I remember when Chris Rock was funny. C+ Monologue JLD winning her Emmy, and spoofs losing another award. And shows a really hairy beaver like Paris and Britney and all the other hoo-ers. Too quick to be anything meaningful. B Oprah I think Maya Rudolph’s impression of Oprah is less a real impression of Oprah than it is a parody of itself, if that makes any sense. JLD as a stalker type. C+ Monex I’m still not sure why this is funny, because it came across as a real commercial, except for Wiig saying GOLD every few seconds. Needs work. D Restless Penis Syndrome A medical reason for cheating on your wife. Amateurish idea, poor execution., and terrible ending. D- La Revista Italian talk show interviewing JLD. Mildly funny, and Hader does a good Kramer. B Weekend Update Funniest part was Armisen as Anna Nicole Smith’s crying judge. B Deep House Dish Techno music talk show. Same bit every time. Thompson plays it well though. It gets a couple of extra points because JLD looked smoking, dancing in her yellow feathered dress. B PSA JLD trying to do a PSA for breast cancer, and the belligerent boom mike guy keeps hitting her with the mike. B Robots Wow, this was terrible. Robots that like to fuck each other. F Pussycat Dolls Parody of the TV show. C+ And Peyton Manning for next week. I can see it now, a meathead reciting his lines in a monotone, with a big smile on his face. Maybe I'll skip next week. |

Highest rated only by the critics (and the people who watch). The show is struggling in the ratings, sadly. And when his name was announced as a guest, more than one person here had to look up just who he was. Not exactly a household name. |

Do I think he's a good actor? Yes. Liked him on "Six Feet Under" a great deal. Do I think he did a good job hosting SNL? He did his best. It was the material that sucked. And Justin Timberlake and Jake Gyllenhaal were the next best hosts behind Alec Baldwin. IMO. |

Looking back at the Forest Whitaker thread when they announced the following week's host, one poster wrote "No idea who that is" and someone responded with "Neither did I, but I see his in the Office". Stop 10 people on the street and ask if they know who Rainn Wilson is. Again, he's recognizable, but not famous by name.

I agree. Plus most of the famous actors have more than enough exposure. Throw the minors a bone. |
Robert De Niro: Greatest living American actor - gawdawful SNL host.
Alec Baldwin: Pretty good American actor - great SNL host. Steve Martin: Mediocre American actor - greatest SNL host ever. You just never know. While being perceived as a great host has something to do with the writers understanding of their strengths and weaknesses and the ultimate quality of material they provide them, it has much more to do with the host understanding comedy moreso than any specific ability to act. Look at Christopher Walken. Who would have thought - based on his acting roles - that he would be such a tremendous host (he's a fabulous actor, just the types of roles he played)? But he just "gets" comedy...that and he is absolutely fearless in front of a live audience. |

You do see both guys doing many more comedy roles these days, no doubt helped along by the exposure of their comedic talents on SNL. |
