I'm glad someone else caught this. I was waiting for Others to show up on horseback and start throwing nets.

Up until I read this thread, I was convinced that Elizabeth Mitchell was Desmond's girl.

Also, that breakfast Kate was eating with Thom Yorke looked really good.

And Jack's Dad's voice did come through the intercom, although I'm guessing that was Jack's hallucination.

Also, one of the best openings in the entire series.

Awesome premier! I thought at first when they were showing the others walk out of their houses that they were going to show just that they were all neighbors before the island or something.. Then they look up and see the plane! That was awesome!

Can't wait for next week!

It was, but no one ever said "Ethan" was his real name.

I love how we see characters that died 2 seasons ago. I wonder what kind of contract these actors have.

So the next logical question is, why would her favorite book be Carrie?

No, Henry Gale ("Ben") called him Ethan when he directed him to pose as a survivor.

I personally think that the Others have telekinetic powers and were being experimented on by the Hanso group. She probably feels a connection to the character of Carrie.

I'm also one of those people who were like "WTF!" LOL

1. Why were "The Others" there in the first place?

2. Why haven't the survivors of the crash found the little town?

3. Why do "The Others" see the people from the crash as a threat?

4. How did "The Others" find out so much about Jack? Must be some kind of government connection there.

5. What the heck are those taser-like weapons they had? Again, looks like a government connection to me.

6. How are the "next two weeks going to be unpleasant" for Kate? (and prob Jack and Sawyer)

I'm sure I have more but just can't think of them now...

I don't think Juliet really had any external dirt on Jack. She had some information gathered on the island, and was bluffing that there was more. Remember: all we saw was a big stack of papers. Could have been anything.

So many new questions..such few answers.

Looks like Kate and Sawyer gets it on.

It looks like Juliette could be a potential ally for Jack and the plane folks. She and Ben seems to have some sort of negative relationship (well besides the book club)

I see a Jack and Juliette tango in the future. I mean any woman that can knock you out like that HAS to be a tiger in the sak.

I will have to re-watch it to make sure, but I would swear that's who it was that was fixing the plumbing also.

if the others did have any connection to the outside world, then how could they consider themselves "the good guys" if they didn't alert the outside world of the plane crash? or do they not want the island to be discovered by the outside world and they think the ends justify the means?

Riveting episode, it somehow made Jack's previously dull backstory interesting. It also whets my appetite for seeing the rest of the cast next week.

And that opening was excellent. Loved how they pulled back to reveal the "town" was on the island.

Solid premiere. I was surprised to find that I liked Jack's backstory. Nice POTA touch as well...

Something is screwy with the woman that is Jack's interrogator. The beginning scene where she burns her hands, and the old lady looks really scared when she sees the towel wrapped around her hands - I almost think she has some kind of Carrie-esque power.

Awesome episode.

Great opening sequence. Loved seeing the plane break up.

So many new questions that we'll be complaining about in 6 weeks when we haven't answered any of them.

Wow, what an opening! Jack's flashback was also one of the most interesting, especially since they seem to be getting old to me.

Once again, there are many questions that need to be answered, but that's what keeps me watching the show.

It was most definitely Ethan fixing the plumbing before he and Goodwin get sent off.

Carl was some kid in the cage across from Sawyer and I think we're to believe he's been put down now, but we all know that's unlikely to be true.

I think leaving her to drown with Jack in the aquarium was a pretty good sign there's no love lost between the two Of course, I'm assuming that was his own survival instincts and not a calculated "oh, she can handle this all by herself" moment.

You're joking right? Have you ever heard how freaking loud it is when a plane is that low in the air? There's no way that was expected.

True but remember the look she gave him when he said 'I don't care, kill her'.

And the look at the end, when he was like 'great job'. And she was like 'yeah, okay whatever'

I'll spoilorize, but can any book expert tell me if the below are names of books? These are the next three eps. This one was "A tale of two cities". You know ABC and their crazy episode naming things.

Spoiler:

A Tale of Two Cities (4 October 2006)
The Glass Ballerina (11 October 2006)
Further Instructions (11 October 2006)
The Cost of Living (1 November 2006)

How is it that the French lady has been on the island for 16 years but hasn't discovered the village? Or maybe she was once part of it and left or got kicked out for some reason or another?
