Not necessarily true. I believe I just read an interview stating all of the seasons were already wrapped except 4 episodes. However, I don't know when it was conducted so it may be even fewer.

While I'm sad it looks to be leaving I would at least like Michael Shanks to move over to Atlantis - they don't really have anybody like him over there that we know as a main character. Heck, I don't really think they have a moral equivalent. If it's money ditch Teila (I really dislike her).

Nah. Hammer's just a dumb bitch.

Does it really matter that they're cancelling Stargate? I mean, they have wrestling...

I wonder how Pierre's going to take the news..

I think SG-1 is as good as it's ever been, which is to say entertaining half-baked action SciFi, enough to place it in my top ten shows in an average year... I've liked Browder/Black and the Ori as much as I ever liked Richard Dean Anderson and the G'oauld, but then again, they're not doing much more than repeating themselves with variations at this point... So I can't feel too sad that they're done.

Then again AGAIN-- is SG Atlantis doing any more than repeating the same formula too? Not that I can tell...

You're equating "longer" with "better". That would be a mistake. Some shows know that when the gas runs out of the tank, it's time to put the car (or starship) in the garage.

Too bad, I really enjoy the show and didn't feel like it was losing steam at all. I never thought it was one of the greatest shows on the air but it's been an enjoyable hour of TV for 10 years now.

Bummer...hope the "the Movie is still on" line from the 200th episode means they are moving to the big screen. At least BG and SGA are still there...I like Eureka too...

using which continuity?
I think after a 10 year tv show it'd be hard to stick completely with the continuity of the movie
will they go back to the gould being asgard looking things?

I agree! I've enjoyed SG-1, but feel it's gotten a bit long-in-the-tooth. Retire it with dignity.

I think they would go back to their original way. The SG and SG1 are much different.

While it's sad to see SG1 go, it did have one hell of a run, and was one of the best Science Fiction Adventure series ever. (Not one of the best SF series ever, but one of the best SF Adventure series ever.)

I always thought of this show as the real stylistic successor to the original Star Trek series from the 60's. It had that same sense of adventure and fun - and was irreverent at the same time.

And, hey - we'll always have the DVDs!

I'll bet this has more to do with MGM, the producers and cast not wanting to continue the show for various reasons than Sci-Fi channel refusing to carry another season.

I've never seen an episode, which is odd since I like stuff like this.

Maybe I'll start mainlining the DVD's from Netflix.

I have read that Atlantis is much more popular than SG-1 anyway.

Should I mainline that one first since there are only a few seasons?

Start with SG1 first since it sets all the elements that SGA builds on. SGA doesn't really explain much about the gate since it was all explained in SG1. SG1 also has a build up to where they spun off SGA. Watch SG1 up until after season 7 and then you can watch SGA (that is when they both were running).

Only one season of SGA is on DVD so far but 8 of SG1.

Didn't they hint in the 200th episode that an SG-1 movie might be greenlit again?

Could be, but that's certainly not the impression I got from the actors in their 200th episode interviews. Their general feeling was that the show still felt fresh to them.

By the way, I'd say SG-1 lower ratings for season 10 have more to do with the absence of Battlestar Galactica than any other single factor.

That and going up against Monk. If they had just waited till Monk was over this week to premiere and not broken up SCI-FI Friday I doubt it would have been cancelled.

The Executive Producer gave an interview on Gateworld where he urged fans not to take their anger out on Sci-Fi by not watching the show. He wants high ratings so the show can be shopped around to other outlets. Sounds like it was mostly a Sci-Fi channel decision.

Here's a question: has a major show ever had first-runs on three networks?

Showtime -> Sci-Fi -> ??*

My Dad emailed me this. I'm not pleased, but admittedly behind on the show.

Let me just say that I'm sure I'm not the only one who was not able to watch this season because... Season 9 DVDs?

Really disappointed by this news, though I'd pretty much figured it was the last season anyway. Feels kind of bizarre too, with Sci-Fi promoting the hell out of the landmark 200th episode, only to announce they've cancelled it the very next week. Oh well. It had a great run, and was always a lot of fun.

Yeah, "they" (MGM or Sci-Fi or both?) really screwed the pooch on this one. By the time the S9 set comes out, we'll be halfway through 10.

They have always been about a season behind on DVD compared to broadcast. Considering they usually do a good job w/ the DVDs though I'm willing to wait

No, they were slated to be released back in June/early July. However, there was some switchover with publisher from MGM to Sony so it's a holdup on Sony's end.

Edit: Sorry, Sony to Fox for publishing.

I just got into SG-1 around December last year and I've been watching this on DVD over the past several months and I love it. I'm halfway into Season 8 now and I can't stop. It's great to be able to watch 8 Seasons of a show back to back.

It's such a great space adventure series with a fun sense of homour... right up there with Doctor Who and the original Battlestar as my favorite sci fi series ever.

Looks like it could continue on another network? I hope so. The show is about the Stargate, so it doesn't really need the original cast to continue.

The show is called Stargate SG-1! No one would watch if they continued the show with a totally different cast.
