Just to give a heads up, Blockbuster has a free rental available of the pilot. The only annoying thing is that there is a giant semi-transparent HBO logo almost filling the entire screen during the entire episode although I forgot about it after awhile (there are also occasionally "promo copy" warnings that show up on the bottom of the screen).
For the record, I really enjoyed the pilot. Its kind of trashy compared to Six Feet Under, but its a lot of fun. I have no idea how different it is the to version that's been floating around online.

I just wanted to add my own two bits regarding the novels. They are very well written and hard to put down. I even enjoyed the female point-of-view. This series writes about some pretty outlandish circumstances and I never caught myself having to work at suspending disbelief. It came pretty easy.
There is one thing about Sookie, that I don't consider a spoiler, since it is discussed with 1-3 pages of the first novel, hell maybe the first page. Sookie can hear what people are thinking and she considers it a disability. I've left a little something out, for you to discover concerning her disability.
Right now, I've got the audible audio book of Dead Until Dark in my jeep and listen to it whenever I drive. The steamy scenes are different when they're being read
It occurs to me that this series could be more violent than I might be prepared for. When reading a book, you can tone done the violence in your mind as you read by not visualizing it fully. On HBO, that won't be possible. I'm looking forward to this.

It would be difficult to pull-off, I admit. There could also be rights issues involving Bubba. But I do love him in the books.

I rented this last night from Blockbuster and watched it. The semi-transparent HBO logo was annoying, but I got over it quick.
Thank goodness, the boyfriend and girlfriend from the beginning were gone because both actors were terrible and the convenience store clerk and redneck hunter weren't that great either. Once the show started after the creepy and excellent credits, it got a lot better.
Tara annoyed the crap out of me, but then again, that's how the character is written.
The gay cook was funny especially when he was talking to the fat guy at the end.
I kept getting the feeling that the show was in the Deep South, redneck country, not Cajun Country.
The best parts were the nudity and Anna Paquin as a blond. Yummy! I could watch her in those short shorts and tight white t-shirts.

On the whole. it's a lot better than the last HBO pilot I watched: John from Cincinnati.
