She's so beautiful, she could turn a gay man straight!

And for equal access: George Clooney is so handsome, he could turn me gay!

Since we are mentioning Eye candy, we have to mention Nathan Fillion and Sean Mayer who are both easy on the eyes for Woman and Gay Men alike.

Speaking of Nathan Fillion, I know he is developing this 'show-killer' stigma and I think I found his female counterpart...

Paula Marshall

I was watching Californication last night and thought she looked familiar so I had to look it up. Quite a laundry list of canceled programs. Read that synopsis of canceled shows. Amazing. Fillion has a long while to go before he can catch up to her numbers.

Glad Im not the only one who enjoyed the beautiful Morena Baccarin...

as for the series, loved it from episode one... though it took a couple times starting it before I was "ready" to devote the time to watching the series

the movie, was good, kinda sad to see a lot of the major events, but it was good to get to find out more about the Reavers

BTW... I like Paula Marshall... she looked good in Californication, it wasnt cancelled... she was only in the first season of Veronica Mars (a few eps) and the show went on for a couple more, Nip/Tuck hasnt been cancelled... true she has been in some cancelled pilots, but I dont think she is a curse... Im kinda fond of her myself

I'm not sure either. I suppose "his show" (Firefly) and Drive getting cancelled were the two with the most visibility. He was also in Miss Match which was canned so I'm sure that doesn't help. Otherwise, I'm not sure where he gets the stigma (although I think I have/had it as well). Looks like he was in Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place (by the way, always thought that sounded like a porno title. That why they renamed it from Two Guys and a Girl?!), and Buffy. On the flip side, he's been in Lost and Desperate Housewives, which most definitely haven't been cancelled. Perhaps it has to do with shows he has been with from the start?

He killed the Buffy TV series too! 5 episodes after he started appearing in it, the show ended.

I just went to Morena's imdb page and saw a pic of her with short hair. Why??!! I don't think I've ever found a girl with short hair to be attractive!

Dragon*Con

In case anyone is interested, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, and Adam Baldwin are all going to be at Dragon*Con in Atlanta, GA. over the Labor Day weekend. It's a nice opportunity to get to see them in person and maybe have a brief conversation or two.

Website is http://www.dragoncon.org for anyone who wants it.

She guest starred in an episode of How I Met Your Mother during the second season and didn't like her new "looks". Mind you she played a woman with the "crazy eyes" so that didn't help neither.

This is a shot of them cracking one another up at Dragon Con 2005 (can't believe it's been 3 years since their last appearance):

Here's a link to my other Dragon Con 2005 photos of them and Adam and Ron Glass

Not sure where I read about the Fillion 'curse.' I do remember reading it somewhere though. Oh well.

It started out as a college type thing and they all worked at the pizza place. They wanted to go older and focus on career stuff so they dumped the pizza joint. Working in a pizza joint didn't really suit a guy in Med school.

off topic but...

Did you read the link I posted? Roughly 9 different shows she was a main character where they were all canceled within a year of her casting. Add in a couple of pilots that never got picked up. Then you have smaller roles on shows that would also fall into the 'canceled shortly after.' She was in the second season of Veronica Mars (canceled, S3), same for Sports Night (role in S2, canceled S3), Just Shoot Me & Shark. The jury is still out on Californication and Nip/Tuck as her appearances are from the current seasons. The clock's ticking...

Amen to that brother! It makes a woman look older. If that's what they want, then go for it.

its seriously overhyped.

firefly fans were esp rabid on the internet creating a distortion. for instance on yahoo they managed to vote it into the best film of all time for a while:P rather absurd stuff. and fan sites basically encouraged fans to buy from amazon just to boost the ranking.

i watched the series when the dvd came out, it was pretty weak as said. the cowboys in space theme was just tacky, and the worlds were poorly imagined, far too literally a space western in a way that just didn't make for a believable world. beyond the dialog the characters and stories weren't all that compelling, i could see why it was canceled.

The box office did illustrate actual popularity of the series, but not audience reaction. The actual reaction of the audience, i.e. those who actually have seen the show, is overwhelmingly positive. The show has a 9.5/10 out of 21,310 votes on IMDB for crying out loud. 80% of those votes are for a 10.

The problem with both the show and the movie wasn't "audience reaction," but rather the reaction of the potential audience for the show. For various reasons, neither the show nor the movie attracted enough people to see them.
firefly fans were esp rabid on the internet creating a distortion.
To be fair, they were creating a distortion in real life as well. Universal was apparently completely overwhelmed by how quickly the advance screenings for the film sold out.

and fan sites basically encouraged fans to buy from amazon just to boost the ranking.
Again, to be fair, the series box set sold extremely well everywhere it was sold. So well that Fox is going back for a double-dip special edition release of the series. So well that Universal green-lit a feature film based on the show.

i could see why it was canceled.
Just not liking something isn't really a compelling argument for why something was canceled. If shows were canceled just based on their quality, then pretty much 80% of what's on the air right now would be canceled.

I picked this up as a semi blind buy a few months back. I had watched the movie when it came out and caught it again on cable so I decided to pick go pick the season up. I figured I could buy the set and sell it on ebay when I was done as the used sets were selling for around $10 less than store price. I ended up watching the entire season over 2-3 days and I can guarantee that my copy will never go on ebay. I'm on my second viewing now and I hate fox for cancelling it.

I've never been big on straight sci-fi but I do enjoy when futuristic elements are combined with historical elements such as Firefly, Star Wars, the Dark Tower.

i put off watching this show for a long time just to get away from the massive hype, so when it showed up on Hulu i checked it out finally...

i do agree that it's overrated but that's only because so many people have excitedly informed me that it's the 'best show to ever be on television' or things to that effect.

to be fair it IS pretty clever in its presentation and about half the cast (imo) is watchable and entertaining. i especially like Adam Baldwin, Ron Glass and Summer Glau

having said that, it would only rate this around a 6/10 for the whole series. or on an A-F grading scale... like, a C+. i went into Buffy (only other Whedon show i've watched) not expecting much and was surprised that it lived up to my expectations as a great show. so maybe i was still expecting a bit too much from Firefly. still i would say that anyone who is a big sci-fi and/or Whedon fan should at least give it a try.

i realize i'm in the minority in thinking the show is merely above average, but i really have never understood the amount of praise it receives. *shrug*

the best thing about all the attention it gets i think is that Joss will have enough juice to keep getting his stuff greenlit, and he's someone who is willing to try new things and defy convention, to an extent. that's never bad. i'll watch Dollhouse, no question but that has more to do with Dushku than the creator of the show

My friend met Adam last year and he said he was the biggest Ass he ever met. He was rude and didn't want to be there so beware.

Would love to meet Jewel State.

I find that hard to believe. Everyone I've talked with who has had any kind of professional relationship with Adam says he's one of the nicest most genuine people you'll ever meet. My own experiences with him have lived up to that high expectation as well. Is it possible that your friend is a douchebag?

I've only been to a handful of 'cons, but I've never seen a celebrity who ever came off like they genuinely wanted to be there. Doing convention circuits is probably seen as "slumming," which is why people like Shatner and Patrick Stewart are never seen at them unless it's some kind of huge event.

One Star Trek person I remember came off as really rude and combative with the audience, yet the general consensus was the s/he was "so nice."

And, speaking of Adam Baldwin, I've never met him, but considering that every character I've ever seen him play was either an asshole or douchebag, I don't think him I can imagine him being "nice." (Jayne, The King, Animal Mother, the W&H enforcer in "Angel" whose name escapes me.)
