Star was once a decent Lawyer(DA in NY?) and a great Legal Commentator who could decipher the legaleeze and bring it to the Average Joe on News shows. I think the OJ trial was one of her shining moments. The sad thing is her trip down Diva/Joke road is really a sad thing. She just got on eveyone's nerves with blabbering about her marriage to everyone.
I know Star will do fine without The View and I just wish she would realize her "Diva" thing has hurt her image as much if not more than she thinks it helped her.

The View to Star: Don't Come Back
TUESDAY JUNE 27, 2006 11:15AM EST
TUESDAY JUNE 27, 2006 10:50PM EST UPDATED
After the View cohost Star Jones Reynolds announced on the air Tuesday that she would leave the show in July, her network had a response: Leave now.
According to a source close to Jones Reynolds, "ABC has asked her not to return to the View tomorrow morning."
ABC could not be reached by press time, but a source close to the show confirmed that Star had been asked not to return.
Jones Reynolds, who helped launch the chatfest and spent nine years at the View table alongside Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and the newly departed Meredith Vieira, who left to replace Katie Couric on NBC's Today, says the split was anything but amicable.
"What you don't know is that my contract was not renewed for the tenth season," she tells PEOPLE exclusively. "I feel like I was fired." She adds that she got the news just days before reports surfaced that Rosie O'Donnell – one of her most vocal critics – would be joining the View in the fall.
In her announcement Tuesday, Jones Reynolds, 44, said on the air: "Something's been on my heart for a little bit, and after much prayer and counsel I feel like this is the right time to tell you that the show is moving in another direction for its tenth season and I will not be returning as cohost next year."
"That's shocking to me," interrupted Behar, prompting Jones Reynolds to link hands with her cohosts.
Walters, the show's creator, wrapped up the discussion by saying: "It is a new chapter for Star. It will be a new chapter for the View in the fall."
As for where she'll go next, Jones Reynolds said, "I'm not sure what the future holds, but I'm absolutely sure who holds the future."
For more details of Jones Reynolds's firing and her feelings about Rosie O'Donnell's 'hurtful' comments, pick up this week's PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday.

I don't watch, and I don't care much, but I predict Rosie will perform like gangbusters--she charmed exactly this target audience for years before her gradual drift into angry-lesbian territory... And she knows how to soften herself again and schmooze much better than most potential talkshow hosts. She'll have learned Ellen's positive lesson by now, and could probably become "the housewife's darling" again in her sleep.

Walters 'betrayed' by Reynolds' announcement
The gloves are off for the women on "The View."
Creator Barbara Walters said she was "betrayed" by Star Jones Reynolds' surprise on-air announcement of her exit from the daytime talk show Tuesday. Reynolds said in a magazine interview she felt she was fired.
Either way, the "help wanted" sign is up again at the show, months after it was announced that Rosie O'Donnell was replacing Meredith Vieira in the fall.
Reynolds' exit had been rumored for months, intensifying Tuesday after reports on "Access Hollywood" and in the New York tabloids that an announcement would be coming soon.
Still, Walters said she was taken by complete surprise when Reynolds announced her departure after the first commercial break on Tuesday. The announcement had been planned for Thursday, she said.
"I love Star and I was trying to do everything I possibly could -- up until this morning when I was betrayed -- to protect her," Walters told The Associated Press.
Walters also said she wasn't aware until she got off the air of Reynolds' People magazine interview. Reynolds, one of the original cast members when the show started nine years ago, said: "I feel like I was fired."
That seems to be the case. Walters said ABC network chiefs had decided last fall not to renew Reynolds' contract because its research showed that Reynolds' dramatic weight loss and 2004 wedding to banker Al Reynolds had turned viewers off. Reynolds had been criticized for a Web site that promoted companies that donated items for the wedding party's gift bags.
"We tried to talk them out of it," Walters said, "and we tried to give Star time to redeem herself in the eyes of the audience, and the research just kept getting worse."
Reynolds' spokesman, Brad Zeifman, said the announcement had always been planned for this week. Because of all the speculation, Reynolds was compelled to tell viewers, he said.
He said he finds the notion that viewers were turned off by talk of her wedding "surprising," given that some of the top-rated shows in 2004 were related to her wedding and engagement. Reynolds' recent book in which she discussed her weight loss was a best-seller, he said.
Walters said Reynolds had known for several months that she would not be coming back, before Vieira's announcement in April that she was leaving.
"I would have loved for Star to have left and not said 'I was fired,' and not make it look like the program was somehow being cruel to her," she said.
O'Donnell's hiring had nothing to do with the decision, she said. That April announcement had led to widespread speculation over whether O'Donnell and Reynolds could co-exist. O'Donnell had made several caustic remarks about Reynolds, saying that it was dishonest for her to talk about losing more than 100 pounds through diet and exercise without talking about gastric bypass surgery.
On the show Tuesday, Reynolds told the audience that "The View" had decided to move in a new direction.
"I'm not sure what the future holds," she said. "But I'm absolutely sure who holds the future."
Comic Joy Behar looked like she was shocked.
"Who am I going to fight with?" Behar said.
Reynolds replied: "Something tells me you will have somebody to fight with."

You know what? I'm no Star fan but Bah Bah Wah wah is just as full of herself as Star is. If, Star was being fucked over behind the scenes in the "contract negotiations" then more power to her for dropping the bomb the way she did. I know to some it may lack class but then again so what. There's no point in keeping that bridge un-burnt.

The bottom line is Rosie and Star hate each other, Rosie has had a very, very successful career in TV and will likely bring more viewers. It's as simple as that.

I hope that they invite Patricia Heaton to take her spot (I heard that she was in the running before they asked Roise). Then Joy would have someone to argue with.
Why am I even worrying about this... I never watch the show.
Very often.

Exactly. If she wasn't asked back, it was a business decision. The simple fact is the majority of the public does not like Star. It's not the hate that makes you watch but the dislike that makes it so you can't watch. If that makes any sense.

I would ask Star Jones when will she ever work again in this town again? The only time we will see her is on QVC or some reality with a bunch of people who had their 15 minutes of fame years ago. For however much I hate the View, it was popular and its the best gig she will ever have.

Star's praying that another famous athlete/actor is accused of murder, so that she'll beg Court TV to be a roving reporter. Unfortunately for her, Court TV pays minimum wage.
I hate this chick. She should've been canned during that whole wedding fiasco. I cant believe ABC let it slide.

So what was the fiasco? I remember hearing (and it is mention in an article on this thread) something about getting free stuff for her wedding to promote it on the View? Is that correct?

And, sorry, but after her "sponsored" wedding, nothing she does strikes me as having any class. However, I do think it was unprofessional.

Any chance somebody could tell us what was going on in the no longer available clip linked above?
I've probably only seen 4 episodes of The View since it was on, but Joel McHale and SNL kept me reasonably informed about this freakshow of a woman.
