Meredith Calls "The View" A "Joke"
Posted Aug 28th 2006 8:15AM by TMZ Staff
Filed under: Features, Let's Get This Party Started
How about this for a hot topic: Meredith Vieira now says that her old show "The View" is "hard to watch," that she got "blasé" about it after nine years, and even that it "sort of became a joke" after she left.
All of which should provide fodder for an interesting discussion when the current "View"-ers -- Barbara, Joy, Elisabeth, and, of course, Rosie -- get back to the studio next week.
The new "Today" show co-host disses her old colleagues on the ABC show in an interview with Time magazine, saying that she hasn't watched the show at all since she took off, except for the day after Star Jones announced she was "leaving." Even though the show has been garnering stellar ratings, Vieira says she thinks it's "very sad" what's happened to it. "I'm proud of the work we did there, but it's not a good time in the history of the show," says Meredith. "It's hard to watch. It sort of became a joke."
Vieira also adds that she's not overly excited about the hours at her new gig: "I'm not somebody who loves getting up at 4 in the morning, so this might kill me, but we'll see."

What a bitch. First she disses her old show (and you never want to burn bridges...can she afford to burn that one?) and then bitches about her hours at the new show? Damn, for the money they are throwing at her what is wrong with getting up at 4am? I don't love getting up at 6:30 am but I do it because I have a job.
Boohoo for the beotch.

Has any one witnessed the train wreck of a commercial with Rosie, Joy, and the blond hair girl singing Broadway style for the View? It is HORRIBLE...

I think that she hit the nail on the head. It is a joke now. When I turn it on, it is more from a morbid fascination. Is Elizabeth going to freak out again? Is Barbara going to make anymore racially insensitive comments? Is one of the guests going to get into a pissing match with someone on the show (ala Sandra Bernhard?)
As for the early hours, pretty much every single early morning newsperson says the same thing, so it is not a big deal.

I'm not sure if this was in the original posting of Meredith's interview with Time, but at the end of the article it now reads:
Editor’s Note: Ms. Vieira’s remarks about “The View” were intended to refer to the media attention and circus-like atmosphere surrounding the show in recent months; not the show itself. She assures TIME that in no way were her comments meant to be insensitive or derogatory about a program she takes great pride in having built and been associated with for the last nine years.

Interesting. If you look at the article, it seems like it picked certain words that she used and threw an article around it, instead of quoting her directly for the most part.
